Hound Association Of Scotland

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Puppy (2,0) 2 youngsters at very different stages of maturity.

1. Field’s Kalabaney Highland Lass. Almost 10 month old mature bitch, much stronger throughout than 2, and wouldn’t want her to grow on any further. Balanced in front and rear angulation and much more of a finished piece than 2. Front set well beneath her, good shape through the body, deep chest and slightly arched over the loin. BP.

2. Phillips’ Shakina Cotton Candy. A very babyish 6 month old who certainly enjoyed her day out. Built on a more feminine frame, cleaner in head, long strong neck and smooth curve to topline. Would like more front angulation and better lay of shoulder. Very playful on the move making it difficult to see her in a settled stride.

Post Graduate (5,2)

1. Shaw’s Negasy Goldberry. I’ve judged this bitch before and a lot of what I had said then applies. A feminine bitch who caught my eye on the go around with her free and easy stride. She has excellent return of upper arm, elbows beneath the body with good depth and infill of chest. Would prefer her slightly shorter through the body for ideal proportions. Excellent front movement coming towards and low long reach in profile, covering good ground.

2. Darnell’s Rubiltra Gunna B Victorious. A moderate dog almost 2.5 yrs, of slightly better proportions than 1, with some maturing still to do. One of the better head pieces in this class set on a long strong neck. Would have liked slightly more shape to topline. Used quarters well on the move but not quite the front movement of 1.

3. Jolly’s Priorpark William Wallace for Clanbruachan JW.

Open Dog (9,3)

1. Ch Delianza Whats Your Motive JW. A masculine moderate dog of excellent proportions. Appealed to me on the initial go around with his free low reaching stride and shape. One of the best heads in the entry, great proportions and free from heaviness. Reachy neck with good strength into well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm and well filled front. Gentle rise to loin into smooth croup. Textbook hindquaters, well-muscled and angulated. I feel he could have continued to go and go today. BOB.

2. Negasi Radagast JW ShCEx OSW. A stronger dog all through than the winner but balanced throughout. Another that stood out from the beginning with his nice stride around the ring. Has some similarities to his litter sister who won the previous class, excellent front construction with elbows well beneath him and great front fill. Good definition through the body with strength and gentle curve in the rear. Would not like any more rear angulation, but despite this moved well in the rear.

3. Priorpark Problem Solved.

Open Bitch (8,0)

1. Ritchie’s Jimmans Hell On Heels. Bautifully balanced feminine bitch with an excellent head, balanced in skull and foreface with good strength to jaw. Long neck and excellent front angulation with good fill of chest. Excellent depth of chest and gentle rise over the loin. Would prefer a little less length for ideal proportions. Balanced hind quarters. All put together well on the move, true coming and going with an effortless stride in profile. Just lost her enthusiasm in the BOB challenge. RBOB.

2. Jolly’s Negasi Elberith for Clanbruachan JW. Another feminine bitch. Although not quite the lay of shoulder and front angulation of 1, moved true coming towards, and moved with a good ground covering stride in profile. She used her well balanced rear quarters well and pushed the winner.

3. Field’s Jelany Red Florencia at Kalabaney (Imp Rus).

Afghan Hound

Junior (4,1) An even class.

1. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s Drishaun Autumnal King. Red dog of 14 months, not quite as mature as some in the class, but was the most together today. Excellent proportions, balanced head, strong jaw and chiselling to finish it off nicely. Level topline, good fall away and excellent tail set and carriage with ring. Moved with a lovely spring and carriage. Has time on his side to mature.

2. Thomson’s Cloudside Snow Prince. Another promising youngster, 11 months old. More masculine than the winner, and of similar proportions. Nice head, long neck with good shape to topline. Not quite the front angulation of 1. Excellent hind angulation, coupled with strength. Moved well, not quite the fluidity in front of 1.

3. French’s Sitana Silver Surfer at Zalmeerah.

Post Graduate (3,0)

1. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s Drishaun Consider It Done. Ultra feminine bitch, I wouldn’t want any less of her. Excellent proportions and had a clean outline at all times. Excellent footfall coming and going. Moved well in the class covering good ground, but in the challenge was a little too ‘keen’ and tended to throw her front a little.

2. Mcintosh’s Affyneeta Buttons And Bows. This bitch was built on a slightly scopier frame than 1. Balanced head, more chiselling than 1. Level topline stacked, but lost this sligthly on the move. Sound up and back and good stride in profile. Tail carried too far over the back.

3. Thomson’s Light By The Silvery Moon.

Open (5,2)

1. Lancashire & O’Donnell’s Ch Drishaun Baby’s In Black JW. This male really had presence. Excellent head, with that ‘looking through you’ arrogance. Long strong neck. Textbook front construction, well laid shoulders and good length of return of upper arm, finished nicely by good infill of chest. Level back, sloping croup with good tail set and carriage. Swooping hindquarters, low set hocks, well muscled. Did not disappoint on the move, lift and spring, covering ground and keeping his shape at all times with perfect footfall. A real pleasure to have judged today, and I was thrilled to see him go on to win BIS in good company. BOB.

2. French’s Trust Queen Buddha at Zalmeerah (Imp Rus). 6 year old dog, slightly stronger in head than 1. Good length of leg, but on a slightly longer frame than ideal. Level topline and sloping into the hindquarters. Moved well coming and going, but not the stride and carriage of 1 in profile.

3. Mcintosh’s Affyneeta Buttons And Bows.

Beagle

Puppy (5,4)

1. Binks’ Tannahill Lemon Drop. 10 month tan and white, good for size and proportions. Pleasing head and strong neck. Pleasing topline, tailset and rear quarters which she used well on the move. Would prefer more angulation in front and just needs to settle a little more coming towards.

Junior (2,1)

1. Binks’ Tannahill Knockout. 14 month old tri colour dog, good for size proportions and well balanced. Stacked has a great outline, level topline, well set tail and moving has good carriage. Maintains shape on the move, using rear well to drive, but front needs to settle.

Post Graduate (3,2)

1. Fallon’s Molesend Jackpot. A well put together tan and white dog, built on a larger and stronger frame than I would have liked. Well balanced with good angles fore and aft. Level topline and good tail set. Impressed on the up and down and kept his shape well in profile with a good stride. A close decision for BOB. RBOB.

Open (4,2)

1. Fitzpatrick’s Blunderhall Moonwalker at Springstorm VW. This 8 year old bitch defies her age, she moves so actively and freely around the ring and this ultimately won her this class and BOB. She has a nice head keeping in proportion with her size. She is compact and is great for proportions. I would have liked a more level topline stacked and moving.

2. Bink’s Tannahill Ezra. This tricolour dog impressed when stacked with his typical flat topline and balanced quarters. I preferred his shape to topline and return of upper arm to 1. But he didn’t have the front movement of the winner in this class.
