Kent County Canine Association
Sunday 17th August 2025
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge. Some breeds I haven't judged in a long time and some I have been interested and wanting to judge for a long time, finally got the courage to.
Thank you to the exhibitors who entered. It was lovely to see some breeds with an excellent sportsmanship attitude. A warm day but this didnt seem to bother the dogs (or humans!)

Beagle
Junior (3)
1st Mr D & Mrs K Simkin - Simeldaka Sliema Madame
Lovely young bitch, sturdy in type. Correct pigment, stop well defined, ears long and rounded reaching the nose. Correct length of neck into well placed shoulders. Forelegs straight and upright. Would like a little more flection in the pasterns. Firm elbows, topline level and carried level at all times. Still time to mature and fill out. Muscular thighs, feet firm and movement free and long-reaching. BP & pleased to see her go Hound Puppy Group 4.

2nd Miss J Whitton - Alibor Genesis of Haggatty
Compact bitch, correct pigment, with correct eye shape and ear length. Correct length of neck into point of shoulder. Forelegs straight and upright, good substance. Elbows firm and close to the body. Ribs well sprung, and short in coupling. Muscular thighs. Balanced in look. Just lost out on the class due to topline not as firm as 1.

3rd Miss G Borg - Alobor Knockout

Older bitch but she certainly doesn’t show it. Showing the true beagle characteristics. (I think she was pleased to be back out!) Lovely compact bitch, correct pigment, Dark brown eye with appealing expression. Neck flows into well placed shoulders. Loin powerful and correct tuck up. Muscular rear which she used to drive round the ring. RBOB

Correct muzzle and eye shape. Nice pigment. Good ear length. Correct length of neck into point of shoulder. Correct tuck up, tight feet. Slightly longer in loin then 1. Correct macular thighs which she used on the move. Correct tail set & carriage.

Dachshund (Mini Long)
Junior (2/1)
1. Mrs J Stevens & Mrs M Merelli - Grondhale Tinkerbelle
A typey youngster from what I could see and feel. Needs more body to her which may come in time. Lovely head and expression. I would prefer less length of loin. Sadly she was not a happy dachshund today. I couldn’t award BOB at this time. She needs time and confidence.

Post Grade (1/1)

Dachshund (Mini Smooth)
Two very different styles and types of dachshunds in this class.
Junior (3/1)
1st Miss N Sommers - Penjulai's Over the Moon
Black and Tan bitch, young but very mature. Lovely dark pigment, oval eye shape. Would like a little more length of muzzle. Long neck into point of shoulder. Would like a little more return of upper arm. Lovely bold pro sternum, good spring of rib. Short loin and good length of leg to body ratio. Level topline held on the move. Strong rear with moderate angulation. Tail set and carriage high, but nice to see her confident around the ring. Used her movement to her advantage which clinched her BOB & BP. Pleased to see her go Hound Group 4 & Puppy Group 3.

2nd Miss G Hawdon - Lokmadi Charles Dance
Would prefer more leg length to this dog. However that being said he moved with drive and power. Lots to like about this male, strong substance/bone. Correct dark pigment, with a lovely hound expression. Level topline held throughout. Correct tuck up. Full rump with moderate rear angulation. Tail set and carriage high, but moved positive with drive.

A very mixed class on maturity. Liked both my 1st and 2nd and I’m sure these two will switch places.
1st Mrs S Leverett - Whippiness Eyes Down
More mature dog, who won this class on his positive footfall and movement. Lots to like while he still has time to mature and grow. Tapering skull to muzzle with a slight stop. Lovely gentle expression. Long muscled neck flowing into well laid back shoulder. Front legs straight when viewed from the front. Good length of rib awaiting to spring. Showing a graceful arch over loin. Defined tuck up. Strong thighs for his age, with good muscle tone. Correct free movement, which will tighten up with age. BP & pleased to see him go Hound Puppy Group 2.

Strong and well muscled thighs which he used well on the move. Stifles well bent. BOB & please to see him go Hound Group 3

Lovely bitch, mature and elegant. Dark pigment, correct oval eye. Flat top to tapering muzzle. Long, strong neck flowing into point of shoulder. Would like a slightly deeper brisket. Correct tuck up and graceful arch over loin. Muscled, strong rear. In the class she was graceful and moving freely, sadly in the challenge she just started to lag compared to BOB winner. Elegant dog, correct shaped head, long muscled neck into point of shoulder. Correct muscled front. Would like a touch more depth of brisket. Correct straight front, and good tuck up. More level topline, muscled rear with broad thighs. Not using his rear as well as 1 on the move.
