Siberian Husky Club Of Great Britain

The Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain Open Show 13th July 2025.

My sincere gratitude to the SHCBG committee for the invitation to judge the special awards/Junior handling. With special thanks to show team Malvern and stewards for the smooth running of the ring, this was a top priority on a very hot day for exhibitors and their dogs. I was humbled by the large entry and like to thank each exhibitor for supporting the show, I was delighted with the quality of the dogs which made for some hard decisions.

Class A: 7/2ab SA Y D or B

1st Caudy’s Elleonia Perfect Storm at Snodragon (ai)10-month-old, grey & white female presented in wonderful condition. Good skull proportions with correct ear set, eye shape and scissor bite. Lovely length of neck into well laid-back shoulder. Good proportions, balanced fore/aft. Well furred fox brush tail. Fluid and effortless on the move holding topline. Handler and dog in harmony. One for the future.

2nd Sewards’ Elleonia Take a chance on me (ai). Litter brother to 1. Another that shows a lot of promise and many of the same attributes as his sister, he really pushed for the top spot. He was less settled at first but once he moved, he was light on his feet, exhibiting good reach/drive. Will watch the progress of this brother/sister duo with interest.

3rd Platt’s Trailhunters Vixen Tor in Wightflight. Another young good example of the breed, slightly finer overall but unmistakably female, a pretty package with wonderful breed type. Moved well if not a little distracted at times.

Class B: 10/2ab SA PG D or B.

1st Caudy’s Arctictreks Goldilocks at Snodragon JW. This 3-year-old girl caught my eye as soon as she stepped in the ring and didn’t disappoint. Cracking overall profile and package. Correct head proportions, ear/eye set and dentition. Excellent balance and angulation fore/aft. Medium size compact oval feet. Wonderful fox-like tail. Moved clean and true while holding her topline.

2nd Sewards’ Elleonia Wish upon a star (ai). Litter sister to SA Yearling 1st/2nd. What a cracking litter the breeder must be very proud. Another lovely youngster. Foxy head of correct proportions. Almond eye and scissor bite. Good angulation fore/aft. Moved well.

3rd Bolsover’s Charmedkelz’s Arrax. A dog that gave his handler a really hard time. Good overall package balanced throughout when stationery. Gave the impression he would rather be out working than in a show ring. Very impatient to get going, which affected assessment of his movement, but did on occasion show flashes of excellence.

Class C: 14/6ab SW O D or B.

1st McInnes’ Inneska Malachite. 5-year-old male, who took me by surprise. Attractive finely chiselled fox-like head, almond shaped eye, correctly set ears and good dentition. Well laid-back shoulders and spot on rear angles providing correct outline/balance. Proportionate bone for size. Medium sized oval feet. Wonderful fox brush tail. This boy came into his own on the move, effortless & smooth, displaying correct footfall with reach and drive, I could watch him move all day!

2nd Snelson’s Azgard Monticristo at Ashtrax, Lovely blk/white Piebald 5-year-old male. Masculine head correct eye and ear placement. Balanced throughout with correct amount of bone for size. Correct body shape/ratio. Well-muscled, moved well and true, holding his topline. Great boy but just missing his spark today.

3rd Bolsover’s Charmedkelz’s Moondancer. 3-year-old red girl, who is pretty overall package, great outline. Feminine head, with correct liver pigment, amber almond shaped eye and correct scissor bite. Balanced fore/aft. Correct ratios, moved with power and grace, really liked her. Shame she came up against these two males today.

Junior handling

Class D: 6-11 years 1st Connor Morris aged 8. Although standing alone in his class today, Connor gave me a very good standard of handling, immaculately dressed but didn’t distract from the dog. He carried out the patterns I asked of him correctly. The dog was challenging at times which he handled well. Smiling from ear to ear but never let his concentration drop from the job at hand. Connor could improve his overall presentation slightly by practising showing the dog’s teeth and tidier lead control. Look forward to watching his JH handling career. Good Job Connor.

Class E: 12-16 years 1st Cara Wakeling aged 12. A clearly experienced handler, who ran her dog at the correct pace and her pattern work was very neat. Great ‘change hands’ moving seamlessly around the dog. Super rapport with the dog and good observation checking where the judge was through movement. Well done.
