Carluke & District Canine Society Premier Open Show 20th Dec 2025

Thank you to the hard working committee for the invitation to judge at this wonderful and well run Premier open show. Great atmosphere around the rings and lots of festive fun for all especially at the photo booth. With special thanks to the Siberian Husky club of Scotland for the supported entry classes. Congratulations to all the principle winners today. 

Newfoundland 

PG (1) 1st McFarlane’s WAY TO MY DREAMS CHARIBOO AT AWEBEAR (IMP POL).

6 year old black bitch who is good size and bone. Pleasing headpiece & good ratios, would have preferred slightly tighter lips. Eyes almond, well set ears. Muscular neck & well laid shoulders. Top line is held well on stand and on the move. Rear angulation is ok. A sweet harmonious relationship between dog and handler, on the move she really had to work hard to get the best out of her dog as she was reluctant to show herself to her full potential today. BOB.

St Bernard

Dobermann 

PG (1) 1st Cairns LAMARG ATTITUDE. 2 year old, black and tan bitch who gave a handler a hard time, nervous at first but settled after a short while. Feminine overall package with pleasing proportions. Head long and well filled under eyes and clean cut. Eyes almond shaped and dark brown. Ears neat & small. Correct bite. Good angulation fore/aft, with good muscle tone. Movement today was sadly hit and miss, tending to pace on the go around, I’m sure with more confidence and practise, she will shine. BOB.

Great Dane

PG (3,1) 1st Allison/Liddell’s SMOORIKEN FAR ABOOTS.  A wonderful fawn, just 12 month old bitch who already shows much promise. Pleasing head proportions, good ear set & dentition. Clean lines throughout, great angulation fore/aft with room to develop and mature. Movement was straight and true coming/going, presenting correct free and ground covering gait. 

2nd Allison/Liddell’s SMOORIKEN GONNAE NODAE THAT. The naughty litter sister to 1. Many if not all of the same attributes, but just didn’t want to behave, standing still or on the move without being distracted. I am in no doubt these sisters swap places at shows. 

O (4) 1st Ferguson’s IR/SW CH RENESCENT TOO HOT TO HANDLE FOR CHATEAUDAIN. An outstanding two and a half year old blue bitch, who just oozes quality and breed type. She took my eye with her clean and balanced outline. She is elegant and feminine without exaggeration. Head of correct proportions and good length of neck. Excellent angulation fore/aft. Solid top line and correct croup placement. Effortlessly flowed around the ring with correct foot fall. True coming/going and handled to perfection. BOB & WG1. I will follow her show career with great interest. 

2nd Martin’s KEISHANT VENUS. 6 year old fawn bitch with wonderful black mask. Another quality bitch, Correct head with good proportions. Dark eye. Good length of neck into correct shoulder and depth of chest. Great Top line held on the move, good angulation fore/aft. Moved well RBOB. 

Boxer

PG (3) 1st Mair’s LORROSA DIZZY RASCAL AT GLENAULD. A cracking 9 month old brindle and white male, who without a doubt has a very promising future. His overall package for a youngster is exceptional, super profile, very balanced and a true showman. Head is correct and in proportion, flowing clean neck, super angulation fore/aft with plenty of bone. Side gait is ground covering, strong and powerful. True coming/going. Loved him. BPIB, RBOB & RPBIS. Congratulations!

2nd Neilson’s BORESTONE WHO’S THAT GIRL. 2 year old brindle and white bitch, lovely overall outline and feminine package. Good head, dark eye with pleasing expression. Ok movement.

O (4) 1st Mair’s MERRIBOX IN CAHOOTS WITH GLENAULD. A glorious 17 month old bitch. Sublime outline, she is symmetrical and balanced. Her head is exquisite, displaying wonderful breed type, her muzzle is of correct length & completing the picture was a lovely dark eye. Wonderful arch of neck and chest is developing well. Super feet and pasterns, well-angulated fore/aft. Good spring of rib. Today she tested her skilful handler with sass and attitude while on the move. Exceptional on the go around but decided to be more mischievous on the down and back. Despite her naughtiness I couldn’t deny her BOB & WG3. 

2nd Lafferty’s GEENAWELL LORENZO (ShCEX) 4 year old brindle and white male, great overall package and nicely put together male, but just preferred the movement on 1. 

Dogue De Bordeaux 

PG (1,1) O (1) 1st Kenyon’s BISCAY WINSTON FOR DESQUIRE JW. 4 year, 6 month old substantial male of excellent proportion, powerful & muscular body. Pleasing head with correct proportions, broad skull wide set ears, correct bite and typical breed expression. Well laid shoulders, broad chest powerful and deep. Solid hindquarter and moved with ease and well presented & handled. BOB.

Siberian Husky 

P (2) 1st McInnes VIKERKOLLEN’S FF VIDAR FOR INNESKA (IMP NOR) 7 month old male with finely chiselled fox-like head of correct proportions. Almond shaped eye obliquely set, ears of correct size & placement for age/maturity. Correct scissor bite. Excellent angulation fore/aft. Body of correct proportions. Feet oval & compact. Great fox brush tail, set correctly. This boy came into his own on the move, smooth & effortless with excellent foot timing. Workman like in the best possible way, nothing over done, a true sled dog who no doubt under the right judges will do a lot of winning. BPIB & WPG2. 

2nd Trainers SWEET HONEY GIRL AT DANAMELI (IMP ITA) 11 month old bitch, different type to 1, but still lots to like. I just preferred the proportions and movement on the class winner. 

PG (6,2) 1st Wynne’s MYDISA HIELAN WEE BELTER. Nearly 3 year old male, lovely foxy head with correct eye/set, plus good ear set. Well laid shoulders with good front/rear angulation. Excellent body/height ratio. Good tail set and shown in great condition/muscle tone. Lovely movement coming/going and great side gait. 

2nd McInnes VIKERKOLLEN’S FF VIDAR FOR INNESKA (IMP NOR) - Puppy class winner. 

L (5,3) 1st McInnes FURNESFJORDEN’S FIRST RAGNAR FOR INNESKA (IMP NOR) 17 month old male who you have to get your hands on to appreciate. Foxy masculine head with good ear set, eyes correctly set but if I’m being slightly picky could be slightly more almond. Excellent angulation fore/aft. Great proportions. Balanced and true on the move. 

2nd Trainers SWEET HONEY GIRL AT DANAMELI (IMP ITA) - as above. 

O (7,2) Mcarthur & Ellis AMICAL NAXXAR JW. 27 month old B/W male, who is a wonderful example of a moderate dog, with excellent breed type, different type from my other class winners, but presenting a wonderful outline, correct proportions/angulation. Not coarse or over done, just the right amount of bone for age/maturity. Correct head proportions, ear set and eye shape. Strong medium length neck. Good depth of chest to leg ratio and firm level top line. Presented in tip top condition and effortlessly handled. On the move exhibited good reach/drive, with excellent foot timing. BOB & WG4. 

2nd McInnes CH INNESKA MALACHITE. Nearly 6 year old male, who I have had the pleasure of judging before, earlier this year. Attractive finely chiselled fox-like head, almond shaped eye, correctly set ears and good dentition. Well laid-back shoulders and spot on rear angles providing correct outline/balance. Proportionate bone for size. Medium sized oval feet. Wonderful fox brush tail. Wasn’t quite on his A game in this class, thus pipped to the post by class winner. RBOB.

Russian Black Terrier

PG (1) Blair’s BALAZS BEAUTY. 4 year old male, strongly built with correct bone for size. Head well proportioned, medium oval dark eye, correct bite. Good overall package but slightly over ideal weight, which did affect his top line. He was naughty at times especially on the move which was suboptimal to assess his gait. RBOB. 

O (1) Odonnell’s IR CH KALASLANE REVENGE FOR NEUKIEBEAR (IKC) SHCEX VW. 7 year old quality female of perfect size and substance. Balanced outline with cracking coat. Strong feminine head, correct bite. Wonderful body proportions. Correct angulation fore/aft. Skilfully handled to her advantage. Powerful graceful movement. BOB. Really did like her and just missed out on a working group placement, but couldn’t deny her VWG1.

Bernese Mountain Dog 

PG (2,1) Carty’s BERNERVALLEY LORD OF ISLE. 2 year old male, well-developed body, correct angulation fore/aft. Good proportions and bone and correct feet. Lovely head, strong and flat, dark eye, correct ear placement/size, with strong jaw and scissor bite. Firm top line, short loin rounded rump. Moved soundly coming and going, if a little giddy at times. BOB.

PG (3,1) 1st Nicoll’s BOBBY DIGITAL. Tibetan Mastiff, Golden male nearly 3 years 

most impressive masculine head, with a defined occiput/stop, well filled muzzle and strong jaw. Great bone with well sprung ribs, good depth of brisket. Balanced throughout, muscular hindquarters with moderate angulation. His coat is dense/correct texture and straight with good feathering on tail and legs and carries a wonderful heavy mane over neck/shoulders. Movement is powerful/easy, true coming/going. BOB. 

2nd Clayton’s DREAMCATCHER DE BARBA NEGRA AT NORTHDRUM (IMP FCA). Giant Schnauzer, very feminine pure black female just 12 months old, who really didn’t seem happy in the ring today (possibly spooked). Great outline, balanced throughout, strong head of correct proportions. Medium size dark eye, neat v-shaped correct set ears. Correct dentition. Sadly unable to assess her movement and wouldn’t stand still for examination. I hope her handler can overcome these issues as she is a lovely young dog. 

O (2,1)Nicoll’s METHOD MAN. Tibetan Mastiff, Litter brother to the PG class winner, lots to like and some of the same attributes, but not as complete a package as his sibling. RBOB. 

Working Group Adult

WG1 - Great Dane - Ferguson’s IR/SW CH RENESCENT TOO HOT TO HANDLE FOR CHATEAUDAIN - see class critique. 

WG2 - Rottweiler - CH KAYSHILLBLUE ZEUS OF LORAYLA JW. 4 year old male presented in excellent condition. Strong head, dark eye, good pigment and correct dentition. Muscular neck, correct angulation fore/aft, with well developed forechest, firm top line. well-muscled throughout, great bone and substance. Powered around the ring conveying endurance and strength, in harmony with his clever handler. 

WG3 - Boxer - Mair’s MERRIBOX IN CAHOOTS WITH GLENAULD - see class critique.

(13,9) 1st - Rottweiler - Headspeath’s JANTAVIA SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY. 14 month old bitch, who really did impress! Wonderful outline & breed type. Balanced throughout. Stunning feminine head of correct proportions, dark almond shaped eye, small pendant ears and correct dentition. Great angulation fore/aft. Movement and foot timing were on point. BJIS. Congrats!

2nd - Great Dane - Ferguson’s IR/SW CH RENESCENT TOO HOT TO HANDLE FOR CHATEAUDAIN, pipped to the post in this class, see class critique.
