Premier Open Show – 13 July 2025

Boston Terrier Critiques

I extend gratitude to the Officers and Committee of Bakewell Agricultural and Horticultural Society for the invitation to judge at a well organised and friendly show. Thanks also to my steward Chris and to those who entered their beautiful dogs. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and wish the Society the best in future endeavours.

Junior – 2(1)

(1) Walker’s BO KATAN OF KLAN KRYZE

A fourteen month old brindle and white bitch whose coat is short and smooth. This little girl is still developing but there is much to like. Head is nicely square in shape with a defined stop, skull is free from wrinkles, nose is dark and wide and muzzle short and square, ear placement is correct and ears are of good shape. Eyes are dark, set square in the skull and placed correctly. Her neck has fair length, a slight arch and sets neatly into shoulders.

Good depth and width of chest, well sprung ribs, short muscular loins, short and straight back with rump curving slightly over to a correct tail set. Straight forelegs and well muscled hindquarters lead to small tight feet with arched toes and short nails. Feet not turning. Hocks are let down and legs are true. Moved out with ease and grace. Pleased to award RBoB.

Post Graduate – 2(0)

(1) Schfaild’s VICKVALLY WONDERS OF LOVE

A seven year old bitch who knows how to look her best in a show ring. Skull is completely square and free of wrinkle. Stop is well defined, brow is abrupt and cheeks flat. Ears are small, placed correctly and carried erect. Her white muzzle is square with deep flews and her nose is wide and black. Round dark eyes set square in skull and placed correctly.

Coat is fine in texture, glossy and smooth to touch. Neck is of a fair length and arches gently into well placed shoulders. White forequarters comprise a deep chest, straight legs with good muscle, strong and short pasterns, neat feet with arched toes. Feet not turning.

Topline is level and croup rounds over to a correct tailset. Ribs are deep, sprung well and carried nicely back into short muscular loins. Flank is cut up. Tailset is correct.

Hindlegs are set true with a good turn of stifle. Thighs are muscled well, hocks are nicely let down and rear feet are similarly neat with arched toes. Rear angulation is sufficient.

Moved purposefully and gracefully fore and aft and presented far younger than her years.

(2) Walker’s FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS TORQUES AT ZIOST (IMP POL)

A two year old brindle bitch, larger than (1). Head square and free from wrinkles. Defined stop. Eyes dark and round. Ears erect; placed correctly in the skull. Neck of fair length, shoulder placement good.

Front straight, white blaze over chest, pasterns strong and feet tight. Topline level. Ribs deep with good width to chest. Croup nicely rounded and good tail set. Thighs muscled and hocks let down. Moved well and attentive to handler. Preferred overall assembly of (1).

(1) Shfaild’s VICKVALLY MISS CHICAGO SOUL

This sixteen month old brindle bitch captivated me the moment she entered the ring.

Her round dark eyes are set correctly in a square skull, above which she carries small, thin well-placed ears correctly. Brow abrupt, cheeks flat and stop well defined. A short square muzzle carries deep flews and nose is black and wide. Sufficient fill under eyes.

Coat is smooth, lustrous and fine and possesses required white markings. A slightly arched neck of fair length settles neatly into her shoulders which slope away nicely into her forequarts. Forelegs are straight and well muscled and pasterns short and strong. Front toes arched, feet compact, correct placement. Nails short.

A deep body with a good width of chest leads onto well sprung ribs which carry well back to short muscular loins. Topline is level and her rump curves slightly to a correct tailset. Flank cut up slightly.

Hindlegs set true and carry a good turn of stifle with well muscled thighs and hocks let down. Small, round and neat feet lead to well arched toes. Sure footed on the move, holding her topline and powering from behind with freeflowing action providing graceful movement both coming and going. Delighted to award this gorgeous young lady BoB. Subsequently, she went on to achieve Group 4 from a strong Utility Group full of quality exhibits.
