Boston Open Show 2nd July 2025 - Judge Katie Kelly (Ireland)
Thank you to the committee of Boston DCS for the invitation to judge some gundog and hound breeds and the hound group. All breeds were full of quality, thank you to all of the exhibitors for your entry and taking my decisions with such grace. So pleased to see my group winner, puppy and veteran go on to take all top awards in the BIS finals.
Dachshund Long Haired
Puppy (2,0)
I liked both puppies in this class and was splitting hairs between the two.

Lovely young shaded red male. Lovely head piece, correct eye. Good length of neck, well placed shoulders, beautiful front assembly and forechest. Level top line, Good rear angulation. Moved out well with reach and drive. BP
2. Miss S W West, Delsaux Twenty Carat Golden for Kendalldax
11 month old shaded red bitch, another beautiful puppy. feminine head, lovely length of neck, balanced front and rear angulation, good topline, held well on the move. Moved well.
Special Yearling (2,0)
1. Mr K S & Mrs S M Paskins, Delsaux Life Goes On at Kindeace
Shaded red male, nice head, good pigmentation. Good length of neck, would prefer a slightly better layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Nice forechest, good spring of rib. Level topline, good rear angulation. Held topline well on move, just needs to tighten up behind.
2. Miss S W West, Giovanni Rude (Imp Ltu)
Black and Tan male. Lovely showy boy, masculine head. Same as 1, i would prefer a better layback of shoulder. sufficient forechest. Good depth of rib. Well angled rear quarters, moved ok.

Beautiful red male with a stunning head piece - masculine and so typical with a lovely dark eye. Good neck, lovely well laid shoulders and return of upper arm. Lovely forechest, well ribbed, beautiful top line, held perfectly on the move. Well angled behind, well let down hocks. Moved with purpose around the ring.
2. Ms C A Foley, Loggeta Wynn by Myles at Clavennae
A lovely bitch, feminine head, balanced fore and rear quarters, pronounced forechest. Level top line, Moved out well fore and aft, just didn't have the ground coverage of 1.

Such a quality class, 1 & 2 are beautiful examples of the breed.
1. Miss D M Bailey, Glasvey Double Trouble for Loggeta JW VW
A stunning shaded red bitch, oozing quality. Feminine head, lovely dark eye, good dentition. Strong neck into well laid shoulders, good return of upper arm. Beautiful forechest, good width to front. Nice spring of rib and depth of body. Firm top line held perfectly on the move. Lovely rear angulation, giving an overall balanced picture. I liked her overall proportions. Well muscled. Moved beautifully around the ring. BOB, Group 4

Another beautiful bitch, splitting hairs between 1 & 2. Lovely size and so feminine. Beautiful front angulation, good forechest and spring of rib. Lovely rear angulation, used to her advantage on the move. Well muscled and in great condition. Moved positively.

Ultra feminine cream bitch with a pretty head, lovely dark eye giving a pleasing expression. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Correct front and rear assembly, albeit on the moderate side. Strong topline, held well on the move. Moved well fore and aft.

2 year old black and tan bitch with the prettiest of heads, lovely pigmentation. Nice angulation front and rear, moved well. She was lightly on the heavy side which caused her topline to soften.

A young brindle bitch full of such quality. A stunning head piece, feminine yet houndy, lovely shoulders and return of upperarm. A Forechest to die for, well sprung ribs, good topline, excellent hindquarters. Moved out well, covered ground with ease.
2. Mrs A J & Mr A Beagrie, Feldhund Show The Way JW
Another pretty bitch, nice length of neck, balanced fore and hind quarters. Good topline, stands on good bone and substance. Lovely coarse coat, moved well fore and aft.

20 month old brindle boy. Beautiful head - so typical for the breed, beautiful length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good forechest, correct ribbing, level topline, well angled rear quarters which he used to his advantage on the move. Lovely substance and condition, with a lovely coarse coat. I couldn't deny him the BOB today. BOB

2 year old brindle bitch with a feminine head and pleasing expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Balanced front and rear angulation. Moved out well when steady. Just slightly too heavy in weight on the day.

Pretty black bitch with a balanced picture. Feminine head with a pleasing expression. Well developed and balanced front and rear quarters. Lovely ratios. Good topline into correct tail set. A pleasing picture in profile on the move, needs to tighten in rear movement.

Lovely coat and curls. She really pushed for BOB.

2. Miss A & Mr H Hazelton & Vasey, Telurn Ghost of You for Hazeyvasey
Black male of good size. Masculine head of correct proportions. Good reach of neck into nice shoulders, would prefer slightly more return of upperarm. Nice forechest, good depth of chest, well bodied for his age. Level topline and tailset, longer in body than 1. Nice rear angulation. Moved ok but needs to tighten up in front movement, this should come with age.

What an upstanding male in great condition. Masculine throughout. Pleasing head and expression, strong neck into well placed shoulders. Good forechest, deep chested and well ribbed. Strong topline, held beautifully on the move. Nice rear angulation and width of second thigh. Good bone and feet. Moved correctly fore and aft but it was his profile movement which excelled, lovely reach and drive. BOB

Not the biggest of males but none the less another lovely dog, a masculine head of good proportions. Beautiful length of neck into good shoulders. Lovely balanced angulation in front and rear quarters. Good topline into well set tail. Standing on straight legs and good bone. Moved well. Very close between 1&2.

Nice neck into clean shoulders. Good front assembly, chest of good depth, lovely underline. Correct topline, good rear angulation. Overall a lovely outline. Moved well.

Beautiful 6 year old bitch, full of quality. Lovely wedge head, correct but not overdone with a gentle expression, correct set of ears. Good neck, well laid shoulders, lovely forechest, and correct depth of chest. Straight legs of good bone. Nice length of body with slight rise over loin. Correct rear angulation, well let down hocks. Well set tail, carried well on the move. Moved well.
2. Mrs M A & Mr N Webster, Ir Ch Opus D'ambre De Chassagne avec Dalmarno (Imp Fra) Bw23, Breed: Basset Bleu De Gascogne
6 year old male with a lovely head of correct proportions, masculine and houndy. Good length of neck, nice front quarters. Good forechest and once again, correct depth of chest, allowing for nice ground clearance. Well bent stifle, well let down hocks. Tailset slightly low. Moved well. I preferred the overall balance of 1.

1. Miss A Morland, Zoraden Gossip Girl JW, Breed: Whippet
Wow, was my first thought when i saw this elegant girl, a beautiful example of the breed, such elegant lines. Brindle bitch with such a feminine head and lovely expression. Strong neck with good arch, the best of front assemblies, beautiful shoulders and length and return of upper arm. Tight elbows. Deep chest, well sprung ribs, lovely underline. Good bend of stifle, strong hindquarters of good breadth. Lovely feet, well arched. Moved with such grace and power, true in all directions. Hound Group Winner. Pleased to see her go all the way to Best In Show, and later to hear she has gained her Champion title.
2. Mrs M & Mrs A Sanders Parker & Revay, Era Lilian Giliath Classicus (Imp Cze) JW, Breed: Saluki
Cream bitch with a beautiful head, correct eye and ears. Strong jaw and correct dentition. Lovely length of neck, balanced front and rear angulation. Standing on straight legs. Lovely topline with a slight rise over loin. Deep chest and good spring of rib. Well set tail, carried beautifully on the move. Her movement is what caught my eye, she flowed around the ring, covering the ground with such ease.

Lovely male of good size and substance for his age. Masculine head, dark eye, well set ears. Strong neck, well laid shoulders,good neck, well laid shoulders, nice front assembly, tight elbows. Deep chest, good topline, strong loin. Balanced rear angulation, well bent stifle and well let down hocks. Moved with ease around the ring, true fore and aft. Lovely deep colour of coat and in great condition. Delighted he went onto win Best Puppy in Show.

A very promising silver grizzle puppy. Stunning head and expression. Long neck, beautiful front assembly for her age already. Good ribbing, strong topline, lovely underline. Very nice rear angulation, which she used to her advantage on the move, where she excelled from all angles. She presented a balanced picture.

One of the stand outs of the day, full of quality. Head of correct proportions, giving a typical houndy expression. Good neck, well placed shoulders. Deep chest. Well angulated in both front and rear angulation. Strong topline, well set tail. Moved with drive. Coarse coat, in great condition. Pleased she went all the way to Best Veteran in Show.
2. Ms M C Hennessey, Bowerhinton Bombette, Breed: Norwegian Elkhound Lovely head with a dark eye giving her an intelligent expression. Balanced angulation front and rear, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Square and compact appearance. Tightly curled tail. Moved effortlessly. In fabulous condition for her age.
