The London Cocker Spaniel Society Open Show - 29th June 2025

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge their lovely breed club show, and to the exhibitors for presenting their dogs. It was an extremely hot day so thanks to those for braving the weather.

Any Colour Including Solid/Tan

Special Puppy (2):

1st Ellison’s CHAVEZ GOLDEN GLOW WITHIFLOR – 10month old bitch of correct size. Stood she made a pleasing balanced outline. Correct head and eye colour. Clean in neck & shoulder. Nice depth of chest and ribs well sprung for her age. Firm topline. Well let down quarters. Presented in first class coat & condition. Moving with good rear drive.

2nd Pop’s MERRYSOUL EVERYBODY’S TALKING AT BOCABLUE – 9mth old dog of nice breed type & good overall substance. Pleasing in head of correct proportions. Stood on good bone & neat feet. Lovely depth of chest. Correct lay back of shoulder. Enough rear angulation. Moving well with confidence. Presented in lovely coat.

Special Novice (4,2abs):

1st Ellison’s CHAVEZ GOLDEN GLOW WITHIFLOR

2nd Davies LUCIENA DIVINE PEACE – B/T bitch 4 yr old pretty head with a dark eye would prefer deeper muzzle. Good length of neck and well-placed shoulder. Good bone and tidy feet. Just lacking in body to the winner. Enough rear angulation and presented well. Moving true fore and aft.

Special Post Graduate (4):

1st Stokes-Harrell OAKROSA SAN FRANCISCO AMONG CHEZZA’S – B/T dog won the class on his lovely movement. Masculine headpiece and kind expression. Well-made front assembly and clean in neck and shoulders. Lovely spring of rib and short loin. Level topline and good rear angulation and muscle tone. Presented well.

2nd Pop’s MERRYSOUL DONATELLA VERSACE WITH BOCABLUE – black bitch built on a smaller frame, feminine head of correct proportions with a dark eye. Enough reach of neck and lay back of shoulder. Slightly longer in loin. Good rear stifle. Moved well once she settled.

3rd Lockwood’s EDDESWARREN ECLIPSE

Special Open (2):

1st Ellison’s WITHIFLOR TOUCHSTONE JW – 2.5yr old B/T dog of overall substance. Heavier in head than I would prefer, but good depth of muzzle and with kind eye & expression. Decent neck and shoulder placement. Straight front, stood on ample bone and tidy feet. Super spring of rib. Well developed in body. Quarters well let down with good muscle tone. Firm in topline. Moving with good drive. Presented well in good coat.

2nd Rofe’s VILLASPANIOL SUNNY DELIGHT – 5yr old dog smaller framed dog than the winner and lost out to him in overall substance. Pleasing eye. Enough length of neck and decent shoulder. A little narrower in front. Neat feet. Firm in topline and short coupled. Good muscle tone. Turned out in nice coat. Moving well once settled.

Special Puppy (3,1):

1st Masters & Dott’s MANCHELA SOUL SISTER – 10mth Blue bitch of overall nice breed type. Promising puppy bitch of correct size and proportions. Feminine in headpiece with a kind eye. Good length of neck, straight forelegs, with correct lay back of shoulder. Well ribbed and body developing nicely for her age. Level topline. Short coupled body with decent rear angulation. Turned out in super coat & condition. Will certainly have a very bright future. Moving out soundly with confidence.

2nd Hutton-Barber’s BABTONKELPIE COP THE LOT – 10mth old blue bitch who is heavier in type to 1st. Would prefer a slightly more refined head, dark eye and kind expression and correct ear set. Good reach of neck and well laid-back shoulder. Ample bone and catlike feet. Body very well developed for her age. Well let down quarters and good muscle tone. In lovely coat. Giving her handler a hard time as not quite as settled on the move today.

Veteran (2,1):

1st Proudler’s KIMAPA KICKIT KIANTU – 9yr old bitch who was loving her day out and so lovely to see her wagging tail constantly. Pretty head with kind expression. Short neck and enough layback of shoulder. Good bone and feet. Straight forelegs. Enough spring of rib with firm topline. Short couplings. Well made hindquarters. Shown in lovely coat and condition. BVIS

Minor Puppy (3,2):

1st Norie-Millar’s RYALLCOURT SILENT NIGHT – 6mth old bitch with pleasing eye and expression would prefer a slightly deeper muzzle. Well-made front assembly. Lovely bone and feet. Ribs beginning to spring correctly for her age. Short coupled. Good rear angulation. Everything in the correct place just needs time to fill out and body up which she will. Moving with good rear action. Shown in lovely condition. BMPIS

1st Pop’s MERRYSOUL EVERYBODY’S TALKING AT BOCABLUE

Puppy Bitch (4,1):

1st Master & Dott’s MANCHELA SISTER SLEDGE – 10mth old litter mate to the Puppy class winner. For me this bitch has everything in the correct place and screams breed type. Nothing overdone with her and so balanced for her tender age. Exquisite in head with melting expression. Super front make up and good bone, stood on catlike feet. Super well-developed body and depth of chest. Excellent short loin round quarters and excellent rear angulation with great muscle tone. Level in topline which she maintains on the move. Moving she is so sound and glides effortlessly around the ring. One from the top drawer for certain and will watch her bright future with interest. Delighted to award her BIS!

Junior (4,2)

1st Whitehead & Norie-Millar’s RYALLCOURT GRAND SLAM (ai) – 13mth old striking dog who takes your eye when he enters the ring. Full of breed type. Stacked he presents a balanced overall outline. So well together for his young age. Lovely masculinity to his head of correct proportions with a soft kind expression. One of the best fronts of the day. Super depth of brisket. Well sprung ribs. Excellent bone and substance throughout. Short coupled body and well-rounded quarters offering a lovely rear angulation with great muscle. Super topline. Moving with style and elegance. Presented in lovely coat. A lot more to come from him I’m sure as he matures, but a very exciting dog for the breed. RBIS

2nd Cox’s RYALLCOURT CHARM OF UNIQUE TO SUVERN (ai) – 13mth old litter mate to the winner. Slightly smaller frame than his litter mate. Lovely head and eye. Clean in neck & shoulder. Correct straight forelegs and good bone. A bit softer in topline. Body developing well. Correct couplings. Nicely proportioned quarters. Turned out in nice coat & condition and moving soundly fore & aft.

Tyro (4,1):

1st Davies LUCIENA MY EXPECTATION – 3yr old black bitch with a pretty head and dark eye. Good length of neck and well laid shoulder. Correct straight forelegs. Well developed chest and correct rib. Firm in topline with correctly proportioned rear. Turned out in lovely coat. Moving soundly.

2nd Proudler’s KIMAPA KWACKERS KWTCH – liver roan bitch 19mth old who is just lacking maturity and needs more time to develop. Pretty head with a kind eye. Well made in front and rear. Level topline. Moving soundly fore & aft. Turned out in her slinky coat and would benefit from more furnishings to complete the picture.

1st Whitehead & Norie-Millar’s RYALLCOURT GRAND SLAM (ai)

2nd Gray’s PURDYSPRIDE RAVE ON JW – 18mth old Blue dog of nice type. Well balanced in outline. Masculine head and correct eye colour & shape. Clean in neck and shoulder with correct lay back. Lovely spring of ribs. Short coupled body. Overall pleasing substance. Correct rear angulation with short hocks. Presented in super coat & condition. Moving soundly.

3rd Carey’s UXENDEL WOOD WARBLER OF WARE

Special Beginners (5,2):

1st Proudler’s KIMAPA KWACKERS KALON JW – liver dog 19mth old of correct size. Nice type. Pleasing in headpiece. Good lay back of shoulder. Stood on good bone and neat feet. Well developed in body. Level topline and nicely proportioned quarters. Moving with good drive around the ring.

2nd Rofe’s VILLASPANIOL GOLD FLASH – 4yr old dog not as appealing in head as the winner, but a kind eye and correct shape. Ear set good. Enough neck. Good depth of brisket. Nicley sprung rib. Longer in loin than 1st. Rear quarters ok with good muscle tone. Level topline and correct tailset. Turned out in lovely coat.

3rd Lockwood’s EDDESWARREN ECLIPSE

Open Bitch (1):

1st Proudler’s KIMAPA KWARTA KORKI – orange bitch 6yrs sweet head & expression. Would prefer more neck length and lay back of shoulder. Good spring of ribs. Tidy feet. Good bone. Enough rear angulation. Level topline & correct tail carriage. Lacking in coat today. Loving her time in the ring and moving with exuberance!
