HOUND GROUP

BASSET FAUVE DE BRETAGNE – P 1, BP & RBOB Thornton’s Mochras Marmion 10 months, cobby and quite short in the back holding a firm level topline in the stand and on the move, gorgeous head and expression with excellent dark pigmentation, happy little soul that continued to show well later in the group. Perhaps would like a tail set a little higher. O – 1, BOB & G1 Leech & Thornton’s Ch Mochras Mahgaux JW. 3 year old show girl, an extremely well presented exhibit of super type, style and substance, she’s longer in the back than the puppy but has good depth of chest, strong legs, extremely good drive from the rear and good lay back of shoulder, short hocks, super tail carriage and holding a strong topline, moved so accurate for and aft, in the big ring later, really impressed me as she stepped up a gear and could not be denied the win in a strong group.

BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN (GRAND) – P 1, BP, BOB & PG4 O’Day’s Rocky Succession of Baron at Madifrey (Imp Pol). Real masculine and solid pup of great substance and with a stunning head and pleasing expression, in excellent jacket, held himself together so well on the move, with short and strong rear pasterns. SY – 1 & RBOB O’Day’s Tarmachan Toscanello. Good size, with another excellent head, domed skull, long leathers, decent neck and shoulders, holding a firm topline, happy mover, not quite in the same top condition as the pup.

DEERHOUND – O 1, BOB & G4 Bye’s Kirjojax Yeager. This one really impressed me for breed type and such a steady efficient mover in every direction. Presented in a typical harsh coat, with an elegant balanced outline, good tuck up. Strong straight forelimbs with a balanced head and pleasing expression. Moved at one with her handler round the ring and moved up a gear in the group to take a place in a strong line-up.

NORWEGIAN ELKHOUND – P 1, BP, BOB & PG3 Stephenson’s Kamgaard Kyffin for Brawdor. A promising young prospect, 6 months and at his first show, friendly and confident, excellent teeth and scissor bite, presented in excellent thick double coat, short and strong in body, head of good shape, ears pricked and used well, tight curled tail over back, a real accurate mover for one so young. Loved him! SY 1 & RBOB Barganska’s Barbelka Dauntless Spirit (AI). A little finer all over and could have more flexibility in pastern but a good shape and size, tight curl in tail, moved with a strong firm topline, movement was straight and true, would have preferred more reach. L 1 Stephenson’s Norvin Marvel of Brawdor. Both good movers in this class. Little more substance on 1 and very true out and back. 2 Cockbill’s Cealstan Artistic Mystic (AI). Good curl on tail, in plenty of thick coat, would have liked a little more strength in head, wasn’t keen on her teeth being seen. O 1 Barganska’s Cealdstan Ancestral Voices of Barbelka (AI). Loved the profile stand on this one with an excellent balanced chiselled head, excellent high ear set and pricked ears always being used, good bone, good weight covering over the ribs, strong back, not quite the reach and drive on the move. 2 C Artistic Mystic.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK – L – 1 & RBOB Hall’s Kenzduo Daffodil. Well presented and handled, superb rich colour, nice head, dark mask, and well pigmented lips, excellent bone and strong front, she’s a little on the tall side. O 1, BOB & G3 Smith’s Ungowa Here You Come Again JW. Strength and substance in abundance and presents a super picture in the natural stand, nothing exaggerate on her, she has a very good head, good breadth to her skull and a strong muzzle, excellent depth of chest, strong topline, good crown definition and ridge, rear quarters were well muscled and nicely angulated stifle, moved with plenty of reach and drive. 2 K Daffodil.

SALUKI – A super selection of beautiful Salukis on show, this was my favourite breed to judge today – thank you to all the entries. P 1, BP, BOB & PG2 Strong’s Xerxes Omar Ter Dolen (IMP Bel). Loved him from the moment he walked into the ring, has a balanced shape, is super elegant, complete with beautiful furnishings and glides round the ring, so accurate to and fro and with a long and lean head and gorgeous expression. SY – 1 Thomas’ Sincerity Kalimantan Cashar (IMP Fin) JW. Another typy exhibit of much quality and carrying a nice covering over the ribs, front was good, graceful outline, good depth of chest, moderately angulated quarters, very accurate to and fro. L – 1 Copperthwaite’s Alcaliphis Sahara Beyda, pretty cream girl, athletic appearance, correct weight over the ribs, she floated around the ring but not quite the extension of the main winners. O – 1 & RBOB Strong’s 1 Shahzad Zaki Ter Dolen (Imp Bel). Liked the type of this male, who was carrying plenty of long coat on his furnishings, in good body condition, strong neck, good underline and tuck up, tail set was low and carried low. 2 Thomas’ LC Ch Mumtaz Aramis. Not quite the furnishings of 1 which distracted from the overall look and smaller frame but long lead head with low set fine ears. Forelimbs were straight and with strong rear quarters. Moved well.

WHIPPET – P 1 & BP Severn’s Peiluv Chasing Rainbow for Nattah. Of a larger frame, attractive markings, decent mover, covering ground with each step, strong neck, would’ve liked a little more length of rib, strong loin, tail was set low and carried low. SY – 1 & RBOB Seviour’s Stonefox Pathfinder at Osterfen. Best side profile movement in class and for type, straight forelimbs, tight feet, moved a little wide in front coming towards, very large prominent eyes, tail was long and carried low. 2 Chappell’s Blueflight Mystique. Finer in type and tail carried with a little too much swirl, nice head, rose ears, good width between legs. 3 Whitmore’s Kierpark Power of Love at Whitleara. L – 1 Chappell’s Blueflight Brewin Up A Storm. Really motors around the ring, curved topline, long and low set tail, deep chest, nice straight front, head was long and lean. O – 1 & BOB Severn’s Boland Baloo for Nattah. Was BOB with ease, presented a balanced outline, nice shape, good mover, powerful rear quarters which allowed him to move round the ring with ease. 2 Chappell’s Nattah Tranquil Skye Over Blueflight. Good size, flexible pasterns, a little squarer in croup, positive on the move but narrow going away.

AV NSC HOUND – P 1 & BP & RBAVNSC Fairburn’s Amendiel’s Minnihaha. Barvarian Mountain Hound. 7 months and what a happy puppy full of breed type and personality. Playful nature and when got into her stride, she moved with vigour, long body, strong ribbing and good topline. SY – 1 Cross’ Whilloer Girl On Fire at Pedara, Cirneco Dell’Etna. Pleasing head and expression, alert, with flesh coloured nose and eye rims using her ears all the time and listening to her owner, strong forelimbs, her movement was springy but wasn’t moving quite right on the difficult surface. L – 1 & BAVNSC Nicholls’ Sunset Breeze (Imp Esp), Ibizan Hound. Very well handled, fine long head, ears were large and mobile, presented with hard, close and dense long coat,

AV HOUND – P 1 Akehurst’s Tendrow Down To The Wire, W/H Dachs. What a cracking puppy and my star of the day, smart in outline, beautifully presented with harsh coat, excellent head which was balanced and of correct shape, long powerful neck leading into a laid back shoulder, deep chest and ribs extending well back, strong in the loin, firm rear quarters, moved so well in every direction covering a lot of ground with each step. Won a very strong puppy group and then took RBPIS under the BIS judge. 2 A Minnihaha, Barvarian Mountain Hound. 3 Small’s Stargang Morissey for Devondax. Min S/H Dachs.

V – Rowe’s Ch Boloria’s Trick or Treat JW VW, W/H Dachs. Another fantastic Wire who was not showing her age in the slightest, she is a great size and has plenty of substance and strength throughout, gorgeous head with excellent expression, in superb coat and condition. A show girl and at one with her handler. Delighted to hear she went BVIS under the BIS judge. 2 Wand’s Wanderhund California Girl. S/H Dachs. Another really superb exhibit and it was very close decision, she too looks a picture of health and holding her shape and topline and excellent movement in all directions. 3 Whitmore’s Whitleara Truly Scrumpy, Whippet.

HOUND GROUP – 1 Basset Fauve, 2 Rowe’s Boloria Goodnight Mr Tom JW, WH Dachshund, a super wire who put on a stellar performance in this large group to impress me, really pleasing to go over and well muscled, holding a level topline with excellent front and rear angulation, presented in excellent coat condition. 3 Ridgeback, 4 Deerhound

HOUND PUPPY GROUP – W/H Dachshund. 2 Saluki. 3 Norwegian Elkhound. 4 Basset Griffon Vendeen (Grand).
