Ripon & District Canine Society

Ripon & District Canine Society – Sunday 1st June 2025.

I was honoured and grateful for the invitation to judge a number of Pastoral breeds, Pastoral group and the AV Vulnerable Native Breed Stakes at this show set in an excellent venue of Ripon Racecourse. I would like to extend my sincere thanks for the generous hospitality, and to my stewards on the day a big ‘Thank you’ for keeping things moving when the weather at times was not kind to us.

Border Collie

Post Graduate (2)

1st Garside & Davies, Starside Break Every Rule. Just over 12-month-old female, very feminine, Broad skull with a good ear placement, sufficient stop. Good arch of neck into well placed shoulders and depth of chest. Adequate body length, firm loins. Moved well with forward reach and drive, keeping her outline.

2nd Fisher, Etherial Diamond Lakes (AI) (Imp Aus). 13-month-old male, he was a little unsure today though once settled there is a lot to like. Masculine head with breadth, strong neck, pleasing front with plenty of bone. Strong in body and was overall presented in good condition with a good coat. Moved well in all directions.

1st Fisher, Lochiel Written In The Stars JW. 20-month-old male, Good broad skull, well placed ears, and dark eyes. Sufficient reach of neck, well developed front with good depth of chest and plenty of bone. Good firm body with well-developed rear angulation, straight hocks, moved steadily and gave a good ground covering movement in profile. Best of Breed.

2nd Garside, Harbecca Noahs Gift. 7-year-old female, gentle expression, good arch of neck, pleasing shoulder placement, adequate front with depth of chest and ample bone, strong in body with sloping croup and well-set tail. Good flowing movement and in good condition.

3rd Garside & Davies, Starside Tina Turner.

Belgian Shepherd Dog (Tervueren)

1st Donaldson, Luavjans Moulin Rouge (Imp Ita). 11-month-old female, such a feminine head with erect ears, dark oval shaped eyes. Neck well arched, good front though still developing. Good body, short loin and well in rear angulation. Good coat texture and exceptionally light in movement.

1st Arkley, Domburg On My Mind. 6-year-old male, substantial male. Masculine head, ears well placed and erect. Adequate length of skull. Neck well arched and muscular. Good straight legs, chest deep with plenty of width. Compact body with sprig of ribs, good croup. Movement was good. Best of Breed.

Belgian Shepherd Dog (Groenendael)

1st Donaldson, Kasanova (IKC) JW, ShCM VW. 10-year-old male, I must applaud the owner for presenting a dog of this age in such wonderful condition. Balanced head well chiselled with dark eyes, ears erect and set correctly and well used giving a wonderful expression. Moderate neck, sufficient front with ample forechest, straight legs. Short body with spring of ribs, correct croup. Such a light action on the move displayed in all directions. Presented in good coat.

2nd Bird & Caden, Hawksflight Paparazzi At Domburg. 6-year-old male, well built male with a strong masculine head, strong muscular neck, depth of chest. Compact body, good coat and texture and sufficient hindquarters. Moved okay but not the light action of my winner today.

Junior (4, 2A)

1st Pedder, Nobility Sent With Love To Caldermist (Imp Deu). 11-month-old female, and a wonderful youngster, feminine head with such a wonderful expression. Good reach of neck with good front angulation, good bone, and straight legs. Good overall body proportions, pleasing coat texture and well presented. Moved soundly with a ground covering action. Surely a wonderful future. Best Puppy and Pastoral Puppy Group 2.

2nd Peirson, Kiltondale Miley Cyrus. 9-month-old female, another pleasing youngster, good head proportions, would prefer better neck length, adequate front, sufficient body length, level topline and moved freely.

1st Peirson, Ch Farmarens Like A Circus For Kiltondale (Imp Swe) JW. 3-year-old male, In profile gives a wonderful view, Masculine head and the skull is broad, reach of neck, well placed shoulders, chest was deep with ample room. Level topline, adequate spring of ribs and strong rear angulation. Plenty of reach and drive in his movement. Presented in wonderful coat. Best of Breed.

1st Rose, Beldones Clementime Avec Coloratura. 3-year-old female, very feminine with a pleasing expression, good muzzle length, well placed ears, neck well-muscled, good front and rear angulations and a good length of leg with sufficient bone. overall body proportions well ribbed and correct tail length. Presented in good coat. Moved well with a reach.

1st Garside, Demelewis Gang Leader. 5-year-old male, strong masculine head though not overdone, good muzzle length and bite. Correct ear placement, good length of neck, well placed shoulders, well boned and good feet. Strong body, well ribbed, good topline to correct croup and good rear angulation. Was effortless on the move with good drive. Best of Breed.

2nd Rose, Uffspring Ultravox For Coloratura. 6-year-old female, feminine in head, flat skull dark eyes well shaped and correct placed ears used well. Well-developed front with ample forechest and pleasing depth. Sufficient bone, strong topline, sufficient ribbing, and well-muscled rear angulation. Movement freely.

1st Reay, Saniaquinto Fly By Magic At Jacqueilas ShCEx. 6-year-old male. Pleasing head with good width and a good expression. Strong forechest with good depth. Ample bone, Good topline, well bodied, strong hindquarters, and turn of stifle. Moved freely in all directions. Best of Breed.

Old English Sheepdog (4)

1st Fawcett, Starjanda Mr Bright Sky. 2-year-old male, I have given this exhibit top honours previously and does not disappoint. Head of good size and proportions, square muzzle, and good scissor bite. Excellent length of neck and well-muscled. Super outline in profile displaying a compact body and spring of ribs. Good coat texture. His movement is effortless with good reach and drive. Well presented. Best of Breed and Pastoral Group 2.

2nd Ferguson, Mellowdee Soul Man With Lexalby, 22-month-old male, Another pleasing exhibit. lovely head, square proportions. Good pigment with black nose, good depth of chest and excellent bone, straight legs chest, straight forelegs, compact in body, good harsh coat. Well round rear angulation. Moved with good extension and sound in profile.

1st Kellett & Burrow, Fosterbrie Just Klassique Of Kellbry, 9-month-old female, very promising. Pleasing head, good length of muzzle, and dark eyes. Adequate length of neck good front angulation developing nicely, good for bone, strong. Level topline, sloping croup and well-set tail carried well. So well balanced on the move for a youngster. Best puppy.

2nd Hall & Lloyd, Fosterbrie Booja Booja, 9-month-old female and I will start by saying full of exuberance and unfortunately not able to have hands on today, but in view and once settled shows attributes to like. Very excitable on the move but once settled was sound in all directions.

1st Kellett & Burrow, Fosterbrie Exotique Noir Of Kellbry JW ShCM, 7-year-old female Super head and skull with good width, dark eyes set correctly. Strong neck of good length, Well placed shoulder and good forechest, good bone and feet. Level topline, adequate ribbing and sloping croup. Movement gave an effortless profile and was sound in all directions. Presented in good condition. Best of Breed.

1st Amis & Stanley, Droyales Present Verdandi. 16-month-old male judged this exhibit near the start of the year and same attributes apply. He is a strong sable male with a

masculine head, well set dark eyes, erect ears well placed Good shoulder placement and well-developed muscular front, good leg length and well boned on good feet. Strong topline and strength in body. Well-muscled rear angulation, correct tail set. His movement is balanced and appears to adapt to all ring sizes, displayed good reach and drive. I feel at times his handler moves him too quickly, just something to watch.

2nd Folksman, Windgunns Phoenix. 17-month-old female, Feminine head displaying an alert expression, adequate length of neck, well placed shoulders placement and depth of chest. Plenty of bone and length of leg. Topline was level, with good rear angulation, though tends to overstretch. Good on the move and in profile.

3rd Landgren & Towning, Yakasimba Bianca.

1st Ingham, Paluka Bali JW. 21-month-old female, such a good exhibit. Strong in head but retains femininity. Dark eyes with well-placed ears. Well-muscled neck of good length and well in forechest with ample depth and width. Good bone and tight feet, straight in legs. Strong in topline, adequate ribbing, well defined hindquarters, and strong hocks. Very sound on the move displaying reach and drive. Best of Breed.

2nd Cave, Ballynabola Naya At Casiann, 6-year-old female, Attractive head, looked good in overall profile. Good front and rear angulation, sufficient bone, and good feet. Body had plenty of depth. Just lacking in coat today. Moved okay going away and in profile but would have preferred tidier front movement.

1st Woodhead, Novaskaya Yelena Lefay At Pashka, Samoyed, 11-month-old female, full of promise and so shapely overall. Pleasing head, and dark eyes. Thick ears and well placed. Medium neck length and good shoulder placement. Forechest developing nicely. Level topline, well ribbed, and good loin. Level topline. Wonderful in movement for one so young displaying a true action in profile. Best AVNSC and Best AVNSC Puppy. Pastoral Group 4 and Pastoral Puppy Group 1

Strong neck, good lay of shoulder with good forechest. Moderate in bone, tight feet. Good body length, well placed tail, and well-muscled hindquarters. Moved freely.

2nd Mitchell, Ch Foryd Soul Survivor At Yorvikmali, (BSD Malinois), 2 ½ year old female, Wonderfu head, good mask, dark eyes, and well-placed ears. Overall, a good body shape, strong topline, good front, and rear angulation. Moved well and good in profile.

Pastoral Group

Group 1 Brown, Archie Labakan Slovakia JW (Imp SKJ). (Australian Shepherd), 21-month-old male, Black Bi and could not be denied the group today. Such a masculine head, sufficient stop, well placed ears with width between. Strong arched neck, pleasing front with good bone and tight feet. Strong in topline which was always retained on the move. Well ribbed and well-defined rear angulation, straight hocks. Full of purpose on the move and presented in gleaming coat condition.

Group 3 Johnson, Jacobs & Johnson, Willowthorn Dream Gazer JW ShCM ShCEx OSW, (Shetland Sheepdog), 7-year-old male, and today presented with a good profuse coat. profuse coat. Masculine head and expression balanced overall and confident on the move.

1st Hollingworth, Highashes Hits The Spot (Pembroke Corgi). 6-month-old female, Only a baby but so much to like, typical in head with correct proportions, well placed ears, dark eyes. Wonderful in forechest, well boned and on good feet. Correct topline, well ribbed, and sufficient in loin. Movement was free and easy in all directions. Presented in good coat.

1st Chandler, Chanangel Yorkshire Rose (Welsh Springer). 6 ½ year old female, A very typey exhibit, excellent head with a gentle expression and well-placed ears. Good neck length, well placed shoulders, and good depth of forechest. Compact in body, level topline and carried well on the move. Overall, well put together and came into her own on the move with a good driving action from behind. Well presented.
