Breed: Irish Setter

I was disappointed, having driven down and stayed overnight, to arrive at the show feeling so unwell. I would measure you though that it did not affect my ability to judge and I took my usual due diligence to Make considered decisions in the ring, and having reviewed my notes and photographs I am confident that my placings reflected the dogs qualities accurately. It is my firm opinion that soundness—both physical and mental—is of paramount importance in the show dog, as it underpins their ability to be truly fit for function.

The show itself was a lot of fun, with a vibrant Caribbean theme. The committee had clearly put in a great deal of effort to make it enjoyable for the exhibitors, with a lively steel band, colourful costumes, and garlands adding to the atmosphere. It was such a shame that the rain was so heavy and persistent—but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, and the day was still thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Irish Setter

Puppy (1)

1st Richardson’s Bluesprings Linda’s Legacy at Forestfire I really liked this young dog. He presented a typical outline—racy, balanced, and nicely proportioned—and was a joy to go over. He has a very pleasing, lean head and a moderately long, clean neck with a slight crest, flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders and a good return of upper arm. His bone is straight with tight feet. For his 10 months, he has a correct body, a straight topline, and is long from hip to hock, with good turn of stifle and well-let-down hocks. It was difficult to assess him on the move as he was very eager and somewhat unsettled, and, in fairness, he was handled by different people, which may have affected his movement. Best of Breed and Best Puppy.

Post Grad (1)

1st Williamson’s Caskeys United with Bluesprings dam of the puppy, and it is clear she has passed many excellent breed points on to her son. I particularly liked her head, which is long and lean with a correct stop and well-set ears. She has a clean, slightly arched neck. While I preferred the front of her son, she has a straight front with good pasterns and tight, small feet. Her ribbing shows good depth and spring, complemented by a straight topline and nicely made quarters. She was presented in good coat and moved very well in profile. Reserve Best of Breed.
