Antrim & District Canine Club

Breed: MPB stakes and gundogs

Lovely atmosphere all day for this pre christmas show. Although not a big turnout, the quality was very high with some super dogs contesting the group placings. Many thanks to the society for inviting me and to my steward, Fran for her hard work keeping the ring going.

MP BITCH STAKES (8,5A)

1/ Bailie THORNBROOK SILVER SEQUIN (Cocker Spaniel). Still very raw. Sweet, well proportioned head although still needs to strengthen in muzzle, nice kind expression, good neck and front angulation showing some forechest and chest comes down to the elbow. Decent bone and feet, square in outline, enough spring of rib for age and well rounded rear. Moved ok once she settled holding her shape.

2/ Byers DRUMKILTY CHEERS FOR BALIBEAU (Golden Retriever). Another who is still at the raw stage but has lots of promise. A bit fine in head at the moment but has a nice kind eye of good colour giving a soft expression. Good reach of neck running well back into the shoulders and has forechest, nicely boned with good feet, she is just a bit loose and soft all through just now which will improve with age. Presented in lovely coat.

3/ Davis MONTRATECKEL GOOD IN SYRIPES (MSHD)

COCKER SPANIEL

PUPPY DOG (0)

JUNIOR DOG (2,1A)

1/ Brennan CHARBONNEL CHAPERONE AT KERRIJOY (BOB). Beautifully presented black male, good head shape although could be a shade cleaner in lip, moderate neck running into a good topline, lovely bone carried down to tight feet. Nice round hindquarters with correct tailset and carriage. Still has some maturing to do to complete the picture but a very nice example of the breed.

GRADUATE DOG (1,0)

1/ Bailie THORNBROOK BRIGADOON. Appealing head and eye on this b/r youngster, quite well proportioned although could be a bit cleaner in throat, moderate through the neck to level topline. Nice bone and round feet, front and rear angulation could be a bit better, good spring to the ribs, nice round rump with well set tail.

OPEN DOG (2,1A)

1/ Brennan KERRIJOY KING OF THE CELTS . Mature black male, head in proportion but could be cleaner in lip and eye just a fraction prominent. Decent front, very good bone carried right down to tight feet. Ribs well sprung , good topline through to strong quarters, nice and low on the hocks with well set and carried tail. Moved ok in the restricted space.

PUPPY BITCH (1,0)

1/ T.SILVER SEQUIN (BPIB). 1st MP bitch stakes

JUNIOR BITCH (1,0)

1/ Bailie THORNBROOK CALAMITY JANE. Nice square, cobby shape to this youngster. Head a bit weak but has a nice eye shape and expression. Good tight feet and well sprung ribs although could have a bit more depth to them, nice round rump and correct tail carriage, low on the hocks. A bit off in her angulation both ends which affects her movement.

GRADUATE BITCH (1,1)

OPEN BITCH (5,3)

1/Bailie MISSISSIPPI MOONSHINE OVER THORNBROOK. Really liked this 9 year old lady. She is very typy & well constructed all through. Sweet head and expression, nice length of neck and well angulated in front, good bone, a bit down on her pasterns now but feet are ok. She is well bodied with big ribs and square in outline. Topline is still firm, nice round hindquarters and good tail set. Moved well, had to give way to youth when it came to BOB today.

2/ Bailie THORNBROOK TEQUILLA ROSE. Orange roan, head a bit weak but has a nice kind expression. Would like a bit more angulation and depth of body although she does have good spring to her ribs. Nice round rear and good tailset.

AMERICAN COCKER SPANIEL

JUNIOR (1,0)

1/ Donaldson CHERDON CLASSIC (BOB). Very well presented black bitch who has much to like. Nice head shape with good square muzzle and pronounced stop, eyes a fraction prominent but good placement and colour, well set ears. Decent reach of neck into sloping shoulders. Well proportioned body showing slight slope to the topline, good bone and feet, well set and carried tail and moved well in the tight space. She still has some maturing to do in body which can only enhance her qualities.

YEARLING (1,0)

1/ Marsh &Hill LITTLE LIFE BRIGHT POWER FLOW. Lovely buff male with a well proportioned head and the most appealing expression which I preferred to the BOB, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders, front angulation sufficient, would like a little bit more forechest. Lovely bone, good spring to his ribs and slight slope to the topline. Well turned stifles and short hocks enabled powerful hind movement however he was unable to show this to best advantage in the confined space. Tail well set and carried. Another who will only improve with maturity.

OPEN (2,1A)

1/ Marsh IR/FIN/EST SH CH LITTLE LIFE XCITING AND MUCH MORE. Mature black male with lots of qualities to appreciate. He has a nicely proportioned head showing plenty of stop and correct eye shape. Could be a bit cleaner in throat but has a good reach of neck running well back into the shoulder and has good forechest. Well boned with nice feet, body well ribbed back and showing plenty of depth. Well turned stifles, correct topline and tail. Moved out well in profile, just a bit untidy out and back today in the available space.

VETERAN (2,1)

1/ Marsh SH CH/IR SH CH NASAILEEN SECRET AFFAIR. Lovely black bitch with lots of breed type. A little bit plainer in head than the younger competitors here but nicely proportioned. She has good angulation both ends with correct bone and substance to the body, nice round rear end and well set and carried tail. She moved out well and her happy disposition was evident for all to see.

CLUMBER SPANIEL

OPEN (1,1)

SUSSEX SPANIEL

OPEN (1,0)

1/ Arrell IR SH CH EALD STONE CALF WITH HEAPHEN G1. Super dog, lovely length to height proportions with dead level topline, he draws the eye immediately. Really appealing head and expression showing a deep, strong muzzle and broad skull. Good neck and plenty of front angulation and forechest, elbows tight and legs set well under the body. Plenty of bone carried right down to his feet, body deep and well ribbed back with a strong loin leading to strong, well angulated hindquarters. Beautifully presented and sound as a bell with the most happy, outgoing personality, he is all quality, a pleasure to judge him and award him top honours in a strong group.

WELSH SPRINGER SPANIEL OPEN (0)

IRISH RED AND WHITE SETTER

OPEN (2,0)

1/ Allen & Allen IR SH CH / CIE SAIDHBHIN MANNIX POINT OF KILLORA. Upstanding veteran male of good type and good clear colour. Balanced head showing strength in muzzle, well arched neck running into good shoulders , nice depth of brisket, enough bone, feet ok for shape and has strong pasterns. Body is balanced and carries a firm topline. Strong hindquarters and truer on the move than 2nd place today.

2/ Allen &Allen IR SH CH/ CIE TALINTYRE WINTER STARLIGHT AT KILLORA. Bitch who has a lovely headshape and kind expression, she too has correct coat colour. Good through the neck, just a bit narrow in front and not quite matching the winner in angulation and movement. Well boned with good tight feet, strong through the topline and well ribbed back. Like her kennel mate, she is in good hard condition.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER

PUPPY (3,0)

1/ Byrne ZENEVIEVA MAD AS I AM FOR WHISTLER (BOB) G2. An outstanding youngster who is so balanced and together for his age and can only get better as he matures. He has the most handsome, well proportioned male head, lovely kind eye and well set ears. Excellent bone and still has a bit of knuckle to grow on, feet are round although he could still come up a bit on his pasterns. He has excellent overall construction showing moderation in his angulation, plenty of depth to the ribs and pronounced forechest, dead level topline leading into a well set tail which is carried correctly. Movement is sound and effortless and he is presented to advantage. Liked him very much and I’m sure he has an exciting future ahead.

2/ Byers DRUMKILTY CHEERS FOR BALIBEAU . 2nd MP bitch stakes

3/ Worsely BUSHBANE JUMP

JUNIOR (1,0)

1/ DRUMKILTY CHEERS FOR BALIBEAU

LIMIT (2,1)

1/ Kelly ZENEVIEVA SWEET SPOT. Well proportioned feminine head with a kind expression. Ok in front, would like a slightly better upper arm and more forechest, good bone and decent feet, well turned stifle. Just a fraction long in body although she is well ribbed up and has good depth. Strong level topline and well carried tail, moved well in profile.

OPEN (3,2)

1/ Worsely BUSHBANE JUMP. Very nice bitch showing moderation all though. Balanced head with a nice eye and expression, good reach of neck and front angulation, liked her length of leg to body proportions. Good bone and nice tight feet. She is well ribbed up with good depth of chest, hindquarters compliment front angulation. Strong level topline with well set and carried tail. Well presented and handled and showing a good stride in profile.

LABRADOR RETRIEVER

PUPPY (2,1)

1/ Eakin HILLSIDEBRAE FORGET ME NOT BY KERIBAY. Very promising black bitch who is not too heavy and shows a good length of leg for her size., really good over the neck and shoulder, liked her headshape, broad skull with good stop and strong muzzle. She has enough bone, good feet. Shows plenty of forechest with a good barrel rib and tight elbows and holds a firm topline. Correct coat although just starting to blow, and well set correct tail, I would prefer a shade more hind angulation and slightly better croup as she lacks a bit of drive on the move just now but she has some growing and finishing still to do.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1,0)

1/ Douglas TALARD WHIRLWIND. Nice sized yellow bitch who has a very appealing head with a kind, confident expression. Liked her overall balance in outline, good reach of neck and front angulation showing plenty of forechest. Well boned, feet could be tighter. Nice barrel ribs with plenty of depth, a fraction long in loin. Plenty of strength in her hindquarters allowed her to move with drive. Good tail and as with the puppy, she has correct coat but starting to blow it.

OPEN DOG ( 2,0)

1/ Douglas LORETTA RISE N REIGN OVER TALARD (BOB). Very nice young black male, athletic in build but with plenty of substance. He has a nice head shape and kind expression, good over the neck and shoulders with nice length of leg to body proportions. Well boned with good tight feet, correct rib which has plenty of depth, good strong hindquarters enabling plenty of drive. Correct double coat and tail and in good bloom which gave him an advantage over the bitches when it came to BOB today.

2/ McDonald BROWNSTEAD DARK BOY OF LINENVALE. Workmanlike black boy who is a bit strong in skull which takes away some of that softness in expression. Good overall type with a nice outline and length of leg to body proportions. Correct coat and he is in good hard condition. A little bit proud of his tail today which detracts a bit from the overall picture and couldn’t quite match the quality of the winner.

OPEN BITCH (4,3)

1/ McDonald CROSSCROYDE CELTIC QUEEN AT LINENVALE. Mature yellow bitch who is a decent sort but a bit heavy all through for her frame and not quite in tune with her handler today. She has a nice head which is balanced and well proportioned, liked her eye shape and colour giving a soft expression. She is a tad straight in front and feet could be rounder. Well ribbed up and has a correct coat. Movement could be tidier but she was not cooperating with her handler which didn’t help.

1/ Thomas IR SH CH/INT CH TOBERBILLY I WISH YOU LUCK (BOB) G3. Lovely veteran male whose size, type and overall shape won him this class and a place in a strong group. Noble head, good balance between skull and muzzle with plenty of stop and raised brow. Really good front construction and nice flow from head to tail with slight slope to his topline. Stands on well boned legs with strong pasterns and tight feet. Presented in full coat and moved true in the available space.

2/ Graham GWENDARRIFF NOT ON YOUR NELLY. Lovely young dog with a bit of style about him, a bit heavier built all through than winner and not quite matching him in construction or movement. Really appealing in head and expression and beautifully presented in gleaming coat.

3/ Thomas IR SH CH LADYSDALE MAUD GONE TO SHILVODAN

NSDT RETRIEVER OPEN (5,4)
