Gundog Club of North Wales open show, 23rd October 2025, Lagotto Romagnolo Judge’s Critiques.

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Lagotto Romagnolo and thank you to my two stewards for keeping things going.I had 5 dogs to go over out of the 7 entered. Thank you to the owners coming along to have their dogs seen by myself.

One thing that I did notice among all the dogs was they were a little short in foreleg leg. The breed standard says that “Measurement from ground to elbow greater than from elbow to withers.”

Puppy 2 (3)

1 John’s Curlycruz Wild Flower at Frommesbeck. A seven month old white with brown patches and white bitch. Coat still needs to develop tighter curls. Skull has correct proportions with a slight stop. Straight slightly sloping top line. Fore legs a little shorter than body depth. Short loin. Compact feet with webbing between toes well developed. Moderate rear angulation. Tail could be shorter. Nice movement, from side with drive and parallel going away. A puppy with potential. BP

2 Roberts’ Amadar Chantilly Lace. A nine month old orange bitch. Sturdy and robust puppy with curly coat of woolly. Skull to muzzle lengths of correct proportions. Large nose protruding slightly with wide, open nostrils. Straight top line but rather long. Forelegs shorter than desired compare with body depth. Moderate rear angulation. Carrying a little too much weight. Movement a little random but this was its first show.

1 Il Granaio Dei Malatesta Valeria Valez of Pendlebrier. A Two and a half year old brown roan bitch. With evidence of a looser curly coat of woolly texture. Head moderately broad with length of muzzle shorter than length of skull. Slight but evident stop. Pincer bite. Relatively short neck. Forelegs straight with sturdy oval bone but rather short in lower leg compared with body depth. Slight tuck up. Loin short, as required. Carrying a little too much weight. Webbing between toes well developed. Moderate rear angulation. Tail short. Moved carrying a straight top line but a little close going away.

2 Amadar Chantilly Lace. As puppy 2.

1 Pragg & Willott’s Arcticbreeze On Vacation. A two and a half year old brown roan dog. Nearly square with dense, curly coat of woolly texture. Head moderately broad with length of muzzle shorter than length of skull. Scissor bite. Relatively short neck slightly arched. Forequarters moderately well laid back. Forearms straight but a little short on lower leg compared with body depth. Chest rather narrow in front, broadening behind the elbows. Slight tuck up. Compact feet with webbing between toes well developed. A little more rear angulation would be better. Tail short. Best mover. BOB

2 Langley’s Nelbekio High Hopes. Nearly four and a half year old smaller brown roan bitch of rustic appearance presented with a short coat enough to assess the dense curly coat. Head with correct proportions of skull to muzzle length. Foreleg ground to elbow a little shorter than body depth. Slight tuck up. Top line slightly dipping and rising to croup. Compact feet with webbing between toes well developed. Movement from side showed rear legs crossing front legs.
