Cumnock & District Canine Club

Breed: All Breed Open Show

Cumnock and District Canine Club 29th November 2025

Thank you so much to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at their open show and for their hospitality on the day, and to my steward, Kirstie, for keeping the ring moving smoothly. I had some lovely dogs to choose from.

Border Collie

PG: (5,1) 1st Laidlaw’s Inverstag Annie’s Song with Jiljamie, very promising 7-month-old blue & white bitch. Well-proportioned head with a flat skull of good width, clean cheeks and gently tapering muzzle of equal length. Lovely dark oval eye, set wide. Ears of good size and set well, but I would prefer a bit more lift to them. Good overall outline and balance with a neck of good length flowing into well laid-back shoulders and excellent return of upper arm with well angulated hind quarters. Good length of back and depth of chest with a level topline which she kept on the move. Moved soundly with good length of stride and drive. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Walker’s Borderbrook Final Straw at Ravenskirk, 15-month-old black & white dog. Stronger in head than the winner and a touch rounder in eye than I’d prefer but well-set ears. Skull relatively broad and flat with good length of muzzle and definite stop. Good overall outline with a moderate neck and good length of back. Well laid-back shoulder but a touch shorter in upper arm. Well angulated rear with a good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Good feet and bone. Didn’t have quite the stride of the winner on the move but he kept his topline kept well.

3rd Walker’s Penduffie Angel of My Dreams.

O: (4) 1st Walker’s Ravenskirk Pretty in Pink, 4-year-old bitch who really stood out for her typical movement, showing a great, easy stride with her head lowered. Nice, feminine head with a flat skull and muzzle of equal length, good stop, oval eye and well-set ears giving an alert expression. Lovely outline with a good reach of neck and length of back, good depth of chest and well sprung rib. Super front with well laid shoulder and excellent return of upper arm of equal length. OK for bone and I would have preferred a better arch of toes. Gentle slope to croup with a well-set tail of good length, well angulated hind in balance with her front which enabled her to move so well to take Best of Breed.

2nd Kempton’s Art of Blossom Drowned in Emotion into Borderbrook JW (IMP ESP), 22-month-old black & white dog. Lovely head on this boy, well-proportioned in skull with well filled muzzle of equal length. Lovely oval eye and expression yet still masculine. Super outline with good length of neck and back, good bone and lovely feet. Well angulated front and rear but a but not quite reach of the winner.

3rd Walker’s Miraje Just Because at Ravenskirk, 6-year-old black & white bitch.

Bearded Collie

PG: (5,1) 2 lovely girls headed this class. 1st Glasgow’s Gallus Hopes and Dreams, 15-month-old brown & white bitch with lots to like. Lovely head with a square, flat skull and strong muzzle of equal. Soft eyes set apart giving a lovely expression. Well set ears of good size. Lovely outline with a neck of good length and in balance with her length of back. Good depth of chest but with plenty of leg and level topline and gently sloping croup. Good feet and bone. Well angulated front and rear, with a good length upper arm. Lovely on the move, balanced with reach and drive. Best of Breed and Group 4

2nd Ballantyne’s Potterdale Prime N’ Proper for Bustroc, 10-month-old black & white bitch, such a promising puppy. Lovely head of good proportions with a flat, square skull and strong muzzle and moderate stop. Lovely eye and expression. Balanced outline with a good length of slightly arched neck and good length of back. Chest deep with well sprung rib with a well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, good bone and feet, well bent stifle and short rear pasterns. Steady and balanced on the move, covering the ground with ease. Delighted to award her Best Puppy in Breed and Pastoral Puppy Group 1. Best of luck with her in the future.

3rd Robertson’s Quothquan Aylyth

O: (3) 1st Glasgow’s Gallus Hopes and Dreams, as before

2nd Savage & McLean’s Talraz Comic Relief at Canaich Jw Vw, 8-year black & white dog in super condition. Square, flat skull with good length of muzzle and good underjaw, but I would have preferred slightly more stop. Well set eyes and ears. Good length of back with good leg to height proportions, but I would have preferred a bit more length of neck to balance the outline. Well angulated front and rear and sound on the move.

3rd Robertson’s Heather Mist Miss Tillietudlem at Quothquan (SWE IMP)

Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)

O: (4) 1st Miller & Haslam’s Monarchcor Lady Luck at Meitza JW. I really liked this 3-year-old red & white bitch. Super head, with a flat skull of moderate width and a well-rounded, tapering muzzle in proportion to the overall length of head. Lovely large eye, set wide and well-set ears of good size giving a soft but alert expression. Loved her arch of neck which flowed into a well-laidback shoulder and excellent return of upper arm giving good forechest. Level back of good length and strong loin and well angulated rear with well bent stifle and short rear pasterns. Well set tail following a gentle croup. She just flowed round the ring showing super reach and drive, keeping her topline well. Pleased to award her Best of Breed and Pastoral Group 2, she pushed the winner hard.

2nd Mccoll’s Cattal’s A Black Tie Affair (USA IMP), very promising 11-month-old tricolour dog. Lovely, balanced head with a skull of good width and short muzzle of good length. Lovely, dark round eye and ears of good size. Good length of neck and back with level topline and good depth of chest. Super front and rear angulation with good bone and feet. Balanced on the move but didn’t have quite the enthusiasm as the winner. Pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 3

3rd Brown’s Calwinii’s Valentina Rose JW SHCEX OSW.

Samoyed

O: (1) 1st Forster’s Artsam Shining Future Hiro for Hakumichi, 8-month-old white dog. I judged this boy 6 weeks ago and he is really coming on. Lovely wedge head with a broad, flat skull and strong, well-rounded muzzle of good length. Lovely almond eye, set obliquely which, combined with neat, ears set apart gave him that typical expression. Well proportioned in body, with good length of neck and body, deep chest with good length of leg. Moderate in angulation front and rear, with good bone and flattish feet. Balanced on the move, but I would prefer a touch more reach. Deserving of Best of Breed, Best Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 4.

AV Pastoral NSC

O: (6,3) 1st Meikle & Henderson’s Elbereth Etiainen at Lintukoto JW, Finnish Lapphund, this 2-year-old black, tan & white boy ticked all the boxes for me. Super head, broad with a slightly domed forehead with a shorter, strong muzzle, well defined stop and excellent underjaw. Lovely oval eye and ears set well apart and of good thickness. Medium length of neck and back giving a super outline, just slightly longer than high. Good depth of chest and short loin. Good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm of equal length with good bone and feet. Well angulated rear with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Tail set high and carried over the back. Lovely on the move, so balanced and effortless. Delighted to award him Best of Breed and Pastoral Group 1. Well done and best of luck with him in the future.

2nd Gibson’s Droyales Forever Proper at Echosands, German Shepherd Dog, 22-month-old sable dog. Nice wedge head with skull of good width and muzzle of equal length. Lovely, dark almond eye and well-set ears carried correctly. Lovely outline with no exaggeration, firm straight back and good depth of chest. Well angulated front but a touch over angulated at the rear. Good on the move.

3rd Loan’s Harangod-Videki Pazstor Okkos (IMP HUN), Hungarian Puli.
