My sincere thanks go to the committee of the Kington Horse Show & Agricultural Society Open Dog Show for inviting me to judge the Gundog Group as well as a number of Gundog classes. It was an honour and my pleasure to judge at this very well organised and friendly show. Also, a big thank you to all exhibitors for your support and trust in me to judge your dogs. Well done and thank you to my stewards, Janet and Linda, who were very helpful and kept the rings running smoothly.
Gundog Group
I found my Gundog Group winner amongst a very impressive group of 15 gundogs present.
Best Gundog – Wilkinson-Sargent’s English Setter – Walshaw Can’t Stop Dancing. 23 months old. Blue Belton in colour. A very elegant, active English Setter and in command of the ring. Balanced from head to tail. Shown in good coat and condition. His graceful action and personality shone through.

Open (2,0) 1st Taylor & Thomas’s Pingarypoint Puzzled at Knabynnus. 5 year old bitch of good type and construction. Very pretty bitch, and her strong and sturdy frame stood out. Nicely balanced in all quarters displaying a noble and graceful outline, side profile nicely put together. Feminine clean cut head with a gentle slope to occiput, correct scissor bite, kind eye giving a gentle expression. Long strong neck into well laid shoulders, straight front and good front angulation, well developed 1st and 2nd thigh with good bend of stifle and sturdy hocks gave a free and active movement. She displayed good conformation and balance all round. Shown in short, flat coat and in good condition. All this and her energy gave her 1st place. BOB
2nd Whittaker’s Pingarrypoint Milk Shake ShCEx. Another 5 year old quality bitch displaying an honest breed type, smaller frame than winner. Feminine head of good proportions and balance. Nicely balanced framed body. Good bone and muscular shoulders and strong straight front legs with good width and depth of chest. She stood proud showing off a graceful outline. I would have liked a little more width of thigh and rear quarters. She moved well with conformation and balance. Shown in good coat and condition. Two closely matched GSP's, just preferred the overall energy of 1st place.

Sp Yearling (3,0) 1st Clinton’s Sonham Just Over The Moon at Oramiss (AI). 13m old young dog of good type. He is balanced with good overall conformation in movement. Head developing well of good proportions. Good stop and pronounced occiput, good depth of flews, dark eye with a soft expression. This youngster had strength in shoulders and chest. Straight well boned front legs, good depth and length of rib. Rear quarters nicely muscled, short strong hocks and tight feet carried this youngster smoothly round the ring. His movement, balance and energy won him 1st place. However, any of the three Pointers could swap places on another day, which I commented at the time.
2nd Stilgoe & Fox’s Teisgol Sweet William JW. 16m youngster of good type. Nicely balanced and of good construction. Characterful Pointer with strong head features as is required in this breed. Nicely muscled, slightly arched neck set into sloping shoulders, lean throat going down to a good depth of chest, standing straight on well boned front legs. Side profile showing well muscled 1st and 2nd thigh, short strong hocks and tight feet gave a smooth movement, good conformation and balance.
3rd Fleetwood’s Sonham Just Perfect (AI). 14m old bitch. A very pretty youngster with a lot of Pointer qualities. Good conformation and balance, she moved well with good rear drive.
It was a pleasure to judge these three young Pointers.

Open (6,2) 1st Oliver & Stilgoe’s SH CH Teisgol Love is in the Air ShCEx. 5 year old mature dog of quality and type. Strong, very striking masculine head on this dog, full of quality and character. Aristocratic in appearance with graceful lines when stacked and on the move. Muscular long neck into strong, well angulated sloping shoulders, deep, wide chest, muscular moderate length of body standing proud showing well developed rear quarters in thigh, stifle and strong short hocks. He moved smoothly round the ring covering the ground well. What you see is what you get and I liked what I saw. Smooth lines and graceful in appearance. BOB
2nd Clinton’s Hawkfield Merry With Oramiss. 6 year old mature bitch. Very pleasing on the eye, full of quality and style. Pretty feminine head of good dimensions. Side profile displayed a nicely balanced body from nose to tail. Forequarters well developed, muscular neck, well laid back shoulders and strong bone to straight front legs. Muscular loin, well muscled 1st and 2nd thigh and short strong hocks powered her round the ring with energy, grace and style.

Open (2,1) 1st Luczynski’s Baladeva Scarlet Letters For Kanara ShCM ShCEx VW. 10 year old veteran black bitch. Very eye catching on entering the ring. Stood alone but worthy of a first place. Very pretty features, beautiful chiselled head from all angles, full round eye giving a soft expression. Hands on, good muscle and substance under a full and well feathered coat with good under coating. Well balanced side profile, sturdy front and good rear quarters gave a steady sound movement fore and aft, she was showing off her black back feet pads to perfection. A very merry AC, she carried her tail well. Stood proud for her handler and enjoyed herself in the ring. She was a pleasure to have hands on. BOB

Limit Open (3,2) 1st Hirst’s Manlinson Dotty Dot. 1 year old youngster of excellent breed qualities. Stood alone, but a very worthy winner. Very pretty bitch. Feminine cocker head of good proportions and balance. Kind eye giving a gentle expression, correct scissor bite. Straight well boned front legs, front quarters developing well. Well sprung rib, level back showing a good tail set. Firm loin, nicely muscled rear quarters, good bend of stifle together with short strong hocks gave her a graceful and merry action in the ring. Excellent side balanced profile. Shown in good coat and condition. I liked her style. An attractive youngster with a lot of potential. BOB

Open (4,1) 1st Shipton’s Bel Ch Broomeece Fire Cracker Over Mishules BW24. 6yr old sound mature black dog of excellent breed type and noble qualities. Nicely balanced side profile. Long and lean muzzle with moderate depth of flews, nicely chiselled leanness beneath the eyes. Dark eye giving a kind gentle expression. Correct scissor bite. Super shape profile to this dog. Muscular good length of neck set into well laid back shoulders. well boned and muscular straight front, ribs well back. Muscular 1st and 2nd thigh, short strong hocks and tight feet all of which gave him sound movement holding his topline well. He was a little proud of his tail in the ring at times. I liked his style and energy. BOB, Gundog G4.
2nd Gallen’s SH Ch Woodsong Pleides (IMP FRA). Mature 6 year old dog, strong and well put together in construction and balance. Handsome mature head typical of the breed, dark eye giving a very gentle expression on this boy, very noble in features. Sturdy bone and muscular throughout. Long muscular neck set into sloping shoulders, good depth and width of chest, good spring of rib and well muscled rear with strong hocks gave good conformation and movement holding his level topline and tail carriage. Two evenly matched Field spaniels, just thought the black Field had the edge on the day.

Open Dog (1.0) 1st Stilgoe, Stilgoe, Fox & Fox’s Portuguese Pointer, Teisgol King Arthur. 3 year old dog. Stood alone but worthy of his first place. Masculine dog of good size and substance with a strong solid frame. Excellent side profile, he owned the ring. Strong head, good width of skull, short wide good depth of muzzle. Strong jaw with correct scissor bite. Dark hazel eye giving a kind expression. Straight sturdy well boned front legs and strong tight feet. Muscular rear quarters, 1st and 2nd thigh and strong loin with good bend of stifle powered this boy around the ring with grace and energy. A super dog, steady and sound on the move, carried himself well. I liked his style and energy. Best AV Imported Breed Register and RBGG (G2)
Open Bitch (2,1) 1st Stilgoe’s Portuguese Pointer, IR Sh Ch Perdizcyo Beatriz With Teisgol BJW18 JWW18. 8 Year old mature bitch of quality. A strong solid frame being sound in all areas. Attractive feminine head of good proportions and balance. Side profile showing depth of body, shoulder placement, level topline and muscular rear quarters. She stood proud for her handler, moved freely and steady with positive rear drive displaying good conformation and balance. She was a pleasure to assess and have hands on.

Special Yearling (1,0) 1st Blanchard’s Italian Spinone, Osulf Peanuts Barney. 12m old stylish dog with typical IS qualities. Strong body, well built in construction. Masculine head developing well. Dark eye giving a kind expression. Moderate depth of flews with good length of jaw, correct scissor bite. Strong muscular well angulated forequarters, shoulders set into a muscular strong neck. Straight, well boned front legs. Strong muscle to 1st and 2nd thigh, moderate bend of stifle, short strong hocks that gave free and active movement. Level topline held well on the move. Shown in excellent coat and condition. A very stylish youngster. Best AVNSC.
Limit (2,0) 1st Vaughan’s Spaniel (Clumber), Kingsmill Coccagee. 12 year old bitch. Well presented veteran bitch of good type. Very pretty, nicely balanced head of good dimensions. Kind eye giving a keen expression. Moderate length of neck set into well angulated shoulders. Strong body with ample bone and muscle to front and rear quarters. She moved well, good conformation and balance, her age did not hold her back, she stood proud for her young handler. I liked her energy.
2nd Vaughan’s Spaniel (Clumber), Kingsknoll Watchett. 8 year old bitch. Pretty Clumber spaniel of good proportion and balance. Kind eye giving a lovely expression. Moderate depth of flews, correct scissor bite. Good angulation to front and rear quarters with sturdy bone and muscle, nicely balanced side profile. Well presented, shown in good coat and condition. Sound balanced movement in the ring. A very stylish Clumber. These two veteran Clumber spaniels were a joy to assess.

Special Yearling (8,5) 1st Berry & Morris’s Irish Setter, Riverbrue Mystique Avec Brinara. 17m old quality bitch of good proportions. Feminine head developing well. Clean dark eye with a gentle expression. Good angulation to shoulder and upper arm, sound forward stride. Nicely muscled rear quarters with good width to 1st and 2nd thigh, short strong hocks that gave a free flowing balanced movement and good rear drive. Level topline held nicely on the move. Shown in super coat and condition. Side profile and clean racy lines gave her 1st place. (BOB in Breed Classes.)
2nd Williams’ English Setter, Goldbirch Northern Disco at Skippit. 13m old very stylish youngster. Pretty feminine head of good proportions and development. Kind eye giving a gentle expression. Correct scissor bite, good depth of flews, ear set just below eye level. Straight well boned front legs and nicely muscled rear quarters. She held a level topline on the move using her tail to show off a graceful action. A young bitch with all the ES qualities and of good construction. Nicely presented in good coat and condition.
3rd Etherington’s Retriever (Golden), Elkarima’s Golden Renaissance Raffielo of Gemasu.
Limit (5,1) 1st Etherington’s Retriever (Golden), Wildbryher Joie De Vivre of Gemasu. 5 year old dog, strong and sturdy, sound in all areas under a super thick full coat. Masculine impressive head, clear dark eye giving a kind expression. Correct scissor bite. Muscular strong neck into well laid back shoulders, good bone to straight front legs with firm round feet. Straight level topline, good width of loin, well muscled 1st and 2nd thigh with good bend of stifle and strong hocks gave an all round free and powerful movement. Balanced side profile and overall energy gave him his 1st place.
2nd Manning’s Retriever (Golden), Fulvia Beatrice. 2 year old stylish pretty bitch of good type and qualities. Feminine head of good proportions, kind clean dark eye giving a beautiful expression. Moderate depth of flews, correct scissor bite. Good bone and muscular quarters all round giving a nicely balanced profile. She moved freely showing off a strong rear action. She stood proud for her handler and she was a delight to go over.

Open (2,1) 1st Thomas’s Gordon Setter, Glynderys Moonstone. 5 year old bitch. Active, attractive and stylish. Beautiful balanced head with clear tan mark dots above eyes. Defined stop, dark eye showing a keen expression. Decent length of muzzle nicely tan marked, moderate depth of flews, black pigment to full open nostrils all adding to an attractive Gordon setter head. Strong neck set into well angulated shoulders, good depth and width of chest, well sprung rib, level topline, tail set on the move carried just below back level. Muscular thigh, good bend of stifle and strong feet gave this girl an all round strong movement, conformation and balance. Side profile showing very good depth of body and in full coat. Shown in lovely coat and condition. She was not deterred by the sudden down pour of rain and gust of wind. All in all, a very stylish Gordon Setter.
SP Gundog Veteran 7 – 9 years (9,4) 1st Oliver’s Pointer, Olivesong Kiss Chase. 7 year old attractive bitch of good type, balance, and build. Typical Pointer head profile proudly carried on strong neck and shoulders. Strongly boned front and rear quarters and well muscled throughout. She displayed a sound and proud character in the ring and strode out well. Her overall movement, balance, and profile in the ring won her first place. She was a joy to assess. BV

SP Gundog Veteran 10+ (8,4) 1st Stilgoe’s Pointer, Alcazar Amazing Grace Via Teisgol VW. 10 year old bitch and very fit and active too. Well balanced and elegant in appearance. Attractive head profile, strong, well chiselled foreface, dark eye giving an intelligent expression. Strong front and sturdy rear quarters, good bend of stifle and strong hocks. Nicely balanced in profile and strode out well using her rear quarters to power her round the ring. A strong class of 10yr plus veteran dogs.
2nd Oliver’s Pointer, Asterobe Lightening Star Via Teisgol JW ShCM. Another 10 year old quality bitch of excellent type. Classic Pointer head, gentle eye with a kindly expression. Side profile displayed a strong, well built body standing proud for her handler. She moved with energy and style with a strong rear action. Two closely matched veteran pointers.
