I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Society for the invitation to judge at this well run and organised show.  I am grateful to my 2 Stewards for their efficient running of the ring which made my task easier. Thanks to the weather Gods who gave us a mostly sunny, dry day which meant that we could make full use of the large outside ring.  Finally my thanks to the exhibitors for their entries and sporting acceptance of my placings.   

Border Collie

Junior (2)

1st Lavingtons Kirkwind Sargent Pepper. Rising 2yr old dog.  Takes the eye on the stand for size, shape and proportions. Decent head properties and alert expression. Well off for rib and well conditioned.  Moved with freedom showing good reach and plenty of drive. RBOB  

2nd Garside & Davies Starside Break Every Rule. 2yr old bitch. Head well balanced and feminine, decent size and body proportions, shown in good coat and condition.  Lost out to 1 who had more positive movement

!st Charlesworths Wizaland Time for Change at Ginnylands JW. 2yr old dog. My notes say typical border collie. Head that is balanced with good proportions and kind but alert expression. Shoulders well set on and well angulated, decent length of rib, strong loin and body well conditioned. Moved with a free, ground covering stride. BOB   

2nd Webbs Borderbrook Fire & Flame ShCEx. 5yr old dog. Impressive looking male on the stand, Well presented and handled. Preferred the length of stride of 1 on the move.

Puppy(1)

1st Bluck, Davis & Walsh Rosschell Made of Frost. 6mth old blue merle dog. Has an eyecatching outline and has balanced proportions. Slightly apprehensive when head is being gone over but generally quite confident. Head is clean and balanced, eye colour fine for a blue merle, correct bite. Has a moderate neck and well placed shoulders, enough length of rib and with good body condition.  Moved with a free stride and maintained a level topline. BP & BOB; Pastoral Puppy Group 2.

1st Smiths Ancksunamun Host of Goa’uld.  6mth old B/W dog. Lots to like about this raw puppy.  Good length of body coming from length of rib, decent length of neck and moulded front and tight elbows. Head dominated by large erect ears of the right shape, decent balance skull and foreface and foxy in appearance. Steady, free movement with a level topline. BP ,BOB, Pastoal Puppy Group 4

1st  Smiths Ceranda Gower Diamond JW 2yr old bitch. Liked the look of her in profile. Head has balance and with a dark eye she has a kind, alert expression.  Ear set Ok.  Well muscled throughout. Tight at elbow with well placed shoulders and decent angulation.  On the move felt she lacked drive from the rear. RBOB

1st Sudiros Manonfach Rune of Dracos. 18mth old dog shown in good coat and condition. Low set and with good bone. Head proportions fine and foxy in appearance.  Matching angulation front and rear and tail set was Ok although on the move felt he carried his tail too high.RBOB

1st Sudiros Zlata Iz Byrshtunovogo Kraju at Manofach (imp UKR) 3yr old bitch that scored well for size, body proportions and being low to ground. Typical head with foxy look and alert expression. Front and rear angulation in balance, elbows tight to rib, would like more rib. Moved with free stride and maintaining a level topline. BOB  

2nd Morris Reach for the Stars.  3yr old dog who had decided that he wasn’t ging to co-operate with his handler and had his mind on other things. Has a strong head and well set ears. Liked his breadth and depth of chest. On the move his lack of co-operation meant he didn’t show the freedom of movement of 1.

1st Gwynnes Rosnorske Royal Kylo. 13mth old male of good size and with a bred typical outline. Head developing well with enough breadth to skull and length and shape of muzzle. Well pigmented and having the typical Sammy Smile and correct bite. Decent length of neck and shoulder placement and angulation ok, enough bone and ribs are well sprung.  In good body condition and topped off with a quality coat of correct texture.  Moved with good drive. 

2nd Gwynnes Rosnorske Royal Azalea. 13mth old bitch, litter sister to 1 and with many of the same qualities although in smaller, female package.  Lacking a bit of the confidence of her brother and not showing herself to her best advantage.

1st Owens Svetllen’s Brimstone 3yr old male who is of good size and body proportions. Head handles well, has the typical Sammy Smile, correct bite and expression. Enough length of neck, shoulder placement and angulation ok.  Has a decent depth of chest and spring of rib. Correct double coat which was presented well.  Not at his most cooperative on the move but did settle to show a freedom of movement with drive. RBOB

1st Cornwells Jewel Child of Joy Orleansnow (Imp CZE). 3yr old bitch , eyecatching outline with good quality coat of correct texture. Head has a good balance between skull and muzzle, ears well placed and of the right shape.  Good pigmentation, bite and smiling expression and making a bit of noise - demanding attention. Enough neck, shoulders well placed and angulated, good depth of rib and enough length. Moved with free but powerful gait and well handled. BOB

1st Baverstocks Kalkasi Purely By Chance. 10mth old male well grown and with a appealing outline. Has strength to his head with nice flow from skull to muzzle, well pigmented and dark eyes.  Enough bone, decent shoulder placement, good length and depth of rib.  He was anxious and not settled today and he was reluctant to move and show the movement that his conformation suggests he can display. Has the breed required double dewclaws. He was withdrawn from the challenge for best puppy as he reluctant to show.

1st Baverstocks Kalkasi As If By Magic. 10mth old bitch litter sister to puppy dog winner.  Looks to be making a good size with correct balance height to length.  Liked her head shape and kind expression, strong in neck, decent shoulder placement and angulation and enough rib. Double dewclaws. Not having the happiest day but when encouraged she showed a free, fluid movement Best Puppy & RBOB Pastoral Puppy Group 3

1st Baverstocks Ch Kalkasi Just Because JW.  Impressive 3ry old male who is well balanced. Good length of leg with good bone and substance. Strong well moulded head, strong muzzle and good pigmentation. Chest of good depth and breadth. Decent length of rib and well muscled rear, tail set on sloping croup and strong thighs. Double dewclaws on hindlegs.  Composed on the move showing a steady, free action. BOB

1st Brown & Kearnan Swnynant Icon. 17mth old male with good outline and balance. Has a head that is developing well and has good proportions skull to muzzle, correct bite well set on ears giving a bright expression, correct bite.  Decent length of neck, shoulders well angulated and enough rib. Still has plenty of maturing to do. Moved well.

!st Ratajewski & Ratajewska Denis Z Nekielki. Rising 3yr old long haired male. Liked his outline with good length of back and strong topline. Head is well balanced with good width of skull, dark eyes which are well placed, ears correct and and contributing to an alert, intelligent expression. Shoulders are well placed and angulated and the rear angles are matching which was evident in his sound movement with good reach and drive covering the ground with ease. BOB

2nd Finnigans Reyakosa Brando VW. 8yr old male of good size and proportions, liked his outline and maintained a straight topline on the stand and on the move. Has decent shoulder angulation, sufficient bone and length of leg.  Moved well but just preferred the freer gait of 1.  Shown in fit, muscular condition. RBOB

1st Thomas’s Mournebrake One Last Rodeo. 10mth old bitch with a square outline and coat that is developing well making an appealing picture. Small head, good proportions skull to muzzle and enough stop, dark eye and good sized black nose. Shoulders well set on and well angulated, body still has plenty of maturing to do but enough length and depth of rib. Moved with a light, short stepping and quick gait. BP & Pastoral Puppy Group 1.

1st Scruttons Tyngeli Make A Wish for Gemeau 13mth old black bitch, Scores in outline and coat which is of correct texture and well corded. Head not too large, dark eye, correct bite and has enough width of muzzle. Square outline and tail well set on. Moved with a light, quick gait. RBOB

1st Cowleys Kashbeluli There We Are Then JW. 3ry old dog with the required square outline and well corded coat on his body, cording on his head still needs to finish. Liked his head size and proportions with dark eye and well placed ears. A sturdy dog maturing well and preferred his freer light, quick movement over 2. BOB & Pastoral Group 4  

2nd Thomas’s Mournebrake Insomnia Café. 5yr old bitch who is mature and has a lot of qualities that I appreciated. Outline is square and she has a well corded coat which enhances her profile. Presented in good body condition.  Just thought 1 had the freer, lighter action.

1st Cobb, Cobb & Kent Knytshall Ragged Robin. 14 mth old black dog.  Well handled and presented to show him to advantage.  Free stood he presents a balanced, unexaggerated outline, compact without coarseness. Liked his head shape, ear set and dark eye giving an assured expression. Has depth and length of rib, firm loin and correct tailset. Moved with a light accurate stride covering the ground without effort. BOB

1st Halls Debruix Inspector Lestrade. Handsome 13mth old dog.  Lots of like about him and if he continues to develop along the same lines he will be very impressive as an adult. Well up to size with a square outline, plenty of neck that flows into well placed and angulated shoulders with enough bone in terms of length and density. Decent length and spring of rib. Head well proportioned skull to muzzle, has strength but not coarse, strong muzzle, correct bite. Still learning his craft and was distracted/preoccupied with other things at times but no signs of nervousness. Coat of excellent texture and quality.  Well handled to get the best out of him on the move with a free ground covering movement. BOB & Pastoral Group 2  

2nd MacLellan Debruix Nancy Drew. 13 mth female litter sister to1 and has many of the same qualities but in a smaller feminine frame. Not quite the confidence of her brother and not at the moment showing the same freedom of movement

1st MacLellan Debruix Miss Marple. Another 13mth old bitch that is the litter sister to the 2 in the previous class. A litter to be proud of in my opinion. Another with a square outline with a coat of correct texture and density.  Head handles well, muzzle slightly longer than skull but has balance, good eye placement and colour and combined with ear set gives an enquiring expression.  Lacking a bit of confidence and ring experience but when settled moved with a brisk stride and covered the ground well.

1st MacLellan Debruix Taste of Dimonds. 2yr old bitch and another quality exhibit from this kennel. Scored in body shape and proportions with nicely balance head properties and lively expression.  Length and depth of rib fine. Decent length and quality of bone in front and hindquarters, croup well moulded and tailset fine.  Moved well. RBOB

1st Halls Shai Du Pre De La Sommerau at Vonandraste (Imp Fra). 4yr old dog of good size and with a square outline. Eyecatching in profile and didn’t disappoint hands on. Masculine head well proportioned with no sign of coarseness. Shoulder placement and angulation were fine, good length and depth of rib with some spring. Strong through the loin and rear angulation in harmony with front.  Enough quality bone throughout. Moved with the free stride expected and covering enough ground. BOB

1st Lawrence Foveaux China Girl. 10 mth old black/tan. Liked her size to length proportions and profile with strong topline.  Ha previously had a bad experience so handler showed me the mouth before placing her on the table, which seemed sensible, and has correct bite. Flat skull with enough width between well placed ears, skull to muzzle proportions were fine. Enough length of rib, strong loin and level topline. Moved with a free gait at a comfortable pace. BP    

2nd Bailey & Hancocks Parabar Pistachio. 10mth old liver/tan male. Masculine head with good width of skull and well balanced head, ears set on well and dark eye. Has strength through his body, decent height to length proportions, rib OK.  Not settled on the move and this cost him.

1st Bailey & Hancocks Selstar Lemon Drizzle. 34 mth old black/tan bitch. Lots to like about her, correct height and length in proportion. Shoulders well set on and fitting well against rib cage. Typical head and expression.  Moved well to take the class.    

2nd Lagonegro Lankeela Kristi and Eeyore. 3yr old liver/tan dog.  Has a lot of positive breed qualities, liked his head shape and proportions, well set ears and expression.  Enough rib, holds a level topline standing and moving.  Just couldn’t match the freer movement of 1.

1st Thwaite Ch Ribblespride Crakemoor. 5yr old black/tan male. Well made throughout with well placed and angulated shoulders and matching rear angulation, good length of rib and strong loin.  Holds a level topline both standing and on the move.  His free, more accurate movement won him this class. BOB

2nd Hughes Poolheywood Barney JW. 2yr old black/tan. Another that looked typical for type.  Liked how he was put together with good shoulder placement, enough rib, strong loin and level topline. Decent width of skull and balance between skull and muzzle.  Moved well but not quite the freedom and accurancy of footfall as 1. RBOB

1st Balidorn Olympic Star with Solyric. 7mth old dog who unfortunately had been spooked by a tent that had blown away ringside. With patient handling he was able to show off his correct outline and movement. Has a wedge shaped head which flows nicely from skull to muzzle with a slight break and eyes that are correct shape and dark, combining with ears that are set on well and show lift at tips giving an appealing expression. Liked his length of neck and well placed shoulders, rear angulation which matches front. Tail set on well and carried well on the move. Correct double coat that enhanced the shape of his body.  Once settled he moved showing good reach and drive and covered the ground without effort.  BP & RBOB

1st Clough-Diprose Auberswell Star Trouper.17mth sable male with an eyecatching profile, liked his height to length ratio and coat with correct texture.  Has a correct shaped head good eye and ear placement and enough width of muzzle. Shoulder placement fine but would prefer a better angulation. Rib OK.  Moved Ok but would have preferred to see more flexibility and drive from the rear.

1st Allsopp Grandgenes She Has the Look. 22mth old bitch.  Have judged this one before as a puppy and liked her a lot particularly her freedom and ease of movement.  To the lower end of the height standard and would have liked her to have grown a bit more in height, having said that her body proportions are balanced and she has a good outline. Head is correct for shape and balanced skull to muzzle, and flows well from the top of her head to her nose. Enough length of neck and shoulders that are well placed and angulated. Has enough length and spring of rib and in good body condition.  It’s on the move that she comes into her own with a light ground covering stride showing good reach and drive.  Well handled by her young handler. BOB 

2nd Clough Clough Evad Lite Breeze.4 yr old dog strongly made with quite a profuse coat.  Has a balanced head with good proportions, enough neck shoulder placement and angulation were OK, enough length of rib and body length to height fine.  Handled and presented well.  Couldn’t match the movement of 1

2 Smooth Collies brother and sister from the same litter and not a lot to choose between them 

1st Davies-Brown Blamorder I Dreamed A Dream at Wystry. 13mth female who has a lot of ring presence and catches the eye.  Liked her size, shape and outline.  Has a wedge shaped head which is clean and flows from of top of skull to nose, correct stop and eyes neatly set, ears neatly set and tops tipping forward. Alert expression. Decent length of neck well placed and angulated shoulders, decent depth and length of rib. Well presented and handled and moved with good reach and plenty of drive from rear. BestAVNSC

2nd Thomas & Lusty Blamorder Side Hustle with Mournebrake. 13mth old male. Many of the same qualities as 1 and they will probably swap places as they mature. Moved well but as much drive from the rear.  Well handled and presented.

1st Thornton Merdelaine Colossus.  19mth old Beauceron male. Well grown but with still a lot of maturing to do. Has size without coarseness.  Head is balanced skull and muzzle, decent width of skull and muzzle, correct bite. Dark eye, ear set is fine. Strong neck of decent length into well placed shoulders which are adequately angulated, good length and depth of rib and rear angulation which is in harmony with front.  Required double dewclaws on hindquarters.  Moved with steadily and covering the ground well. 1st Brown Kontrastas Hector The Noble with Tamalden. 6yr old White Swiss Shepherd male.  A dog of good size and proportions slightly longer than high and presented in good coat and body condition.  Head of wedge shape, clean cut and flows well from skull to muzzle, correct bite, dark eye, erect ears which are set on well. Decent length of neck which flows into well placed shoulders. Enough depth and length of rib and strong loin. Moved ok although felt he could have shown more front reach. BestAV Import Pastoral

1st Edwards Ch Nellbrook Pure Imagination JW. 7yr old Bearded Collie, a blue bitch of excellent type, catches the eye in profile and doesn’t disappoint on the move.  Has a head that is balanced skull to muzzle, eye colour correct for a blue, decent strength of muzzle and enquiring expression. Shoulders are well seton and angulated, well ribbed, short loin and tail well set on and held correctly on the move. Coat of good quality. Handled and presented well. On the move she covers the ground without effort and is a worthy champion.  Best Pastoral Veteran and pleased to see her go Best Veteran In Show.

1 Adams Makaylen Majestic Lady, 3yr old Old English Sheepdog. Shown in good coat and condition with double coat with outer coat of harsh texture. Her coat enhances an eyecatching square outline. Head of good size with square skull, strong muzzle, correct bite and ears that are well placed. Enough strength of neck, well placed shoulders with good angulation.  Compact through the body with enough length and depth of rib and strong loin.  Impressed by her strong, quality bone. She took the place on her effortless, ground covering gait with good rear drive and front extension.

3 Edwards Breaksea It’s Time at Nellbrook. Bearded Collie. Brown bitch just out of puppy but with a lot of quality and has good body proportions. Liked her head qualities, shoulder placement and length of rib. She has an effortless, ground covering gait and hopefully will have bright future.
