Breed: Brittany, GSP, GWP

Oakengates & District - 13 July

What a wonderful day judging the breeds at this show. It was quite hot for the dogs but there was a lovely cool breeze. I’m so grateful to everyone that made the journey to show their dogs under me. Every entry was turned out in tip top condition and handled well, I can’t thank you enough.

Brittany

Huge thank you to the Brittany Club of Great Britain for supporting the entry at this show.

Postgraduate (1,0)

1 Holt’s Rochus Starburst. Really lovely girl who has bags of character which made handling a challenge today couple with the heat. She was quite fidgety so difficult to assess but has the sweetest of expressions with good earset. Presents a good outline when stacked, cobby and square. Well muscled and conditioned throughout. On the move she showed off a good brisk gait, but with added exuberance for her handler.

Open (6,3)

What a quality class for an open show. Three show champions, all with wonderful quality, who could swap places on any day. Thank you for bringing them under me.

1 Graham’s Sh Ch Bonapartist Pickpocket. Won this class today on the overall picture and was really splitting hairs between one and two. He has such ring presence that shouts “look at me!”. Nice dark, oval eyes and high set ear – he has such a gorgeous expression. He has good bone throughout, cobby in appearance, presenting plenty of depth with good foreleg proportions. On the move he holds his topline, moving with a brisk pace and short gait. Delighted to see him shortlisted in the Gundog Group. Congratulations. Best of Breed.

2 Cook’s Sh Ch Highclare Only One Avec Tailliside. Such an attractive dog to look at and a credit to the breed as a veteran. He presented a classic and well-balanced outline. He has a good head and earset, with a strong neck flowing into a well-constructed forequarters, plus moderate yet muscular hindquarters. Shown in excellent condition with well-developed muscle tone, he stands naturally square with a strong topline that he maintains on the move. Moved well, just preferred the overall picture of 1 today. Reserve Best of Breed.

German Shorthaired Pointer

Junior (1,0)

1 Adams’ Keigame Mystique Aurora. This girl presented such a balanced outline - a picture of strength, substance and femininity. She stood alone in this class but I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Excellent head, with a clean, well-constructed front. Shows good angulation and impressive muscle development for age. Moves true, with power, style, and effortless grace. Well ribbed with good forechest and depth of chest. Would benefit from being moved at a longer stride rather than a fast speed to show off even more of her striding gait. Delighted to award her Best of Breed and see her shortlisted in the Gundog Group.

Postgraduate (2,1)

1 Price’s Goosepoint Harry Houdini. This boy is well up for size, being picky I would like a little less of him all over. He was a very happy boy and loved his time in the ring, with bags of character. He has a good head with nice, strong slightly arched neck. Would prefer a better topline. Moved around the ring with ease, covering the ground well.

Open (3,1)

1 Whitehouse’s Kazanpaul Prawn Cracker JW. Feminine outline complemented by the sweetest expression. Displays a lovely reach of neck flowing into well-laid-back shoulders. Good depth of chest with a pleasing spring of rib. Strong thigh muscling and neat, compact feet. Moved true out and back, maintaining a firm topline throughout. Handled well. Reserve Best of Breed.

2 Price’s Goosepoint Harry Houdini. Repeat of Postgraduate.

German Wirehaired Pointer

Thank you to the GWPA for sponsoring classes.

Junior (3,2)

1 Evans & Morris’ Beanalrem Gwyndu. Just fell in love with the boy and his ring presence, and general attitude to life. For me he has such a wonderful head and expression, and it made me totally melt. Chest depth is good for his age, with ribs extending well back, a strong, deep loin, and a correctly set tail carried in line with the topline. Rear quarters are well angulated, showing good breadth and muscular strength in the second thigh. Shown in a coat of dense, harsh texture characteristic of the breed. On the move he was effortless and smooth, with a free, balanced and powerful gait. Delighted to award him Best of Breed even though he stood alone. He was such a worthy winner. I thought he showed excellently in the gundog group.
