VETERAN DOG/BITCH
Galla’s CH VETSBULLIES KILLER QUEEN – A large, well-behaved 8-year-old brindle & white bitch standing well up on the leg. She has a long, sweeping head, well filled with a pleasing expression. Dentition correct for incisors, with one correct canine. She has well-laid shoulders, tight feet, is perhaps just a shade long in body, complemented by well-angled stifles. Presented in excellent condition and handled to advantage. It is hard to believe she is a veteran. BEST VETERAN IN BREED
PUPPY DOG
English’s CLANSMANN WISHMASTER – An 11-month-old white puppy, very much a youngster with his best still to come. Not yet fully bodied, but showing pleasing body lines. His head is still developing and a little browy at this stage; however, he has excellent eye placement with small, piercing eyes giving a keen expression. Dentition correct for incisors, with one correct canine. Short-coupled, with adequate shoulders and correct tail set. Moved parallel both coming and going. BEST PUPPY IN BREED
POST GRADUATE DOG
Hedges’s CIVERT BORDER REIVER – A beautifully made medium sized brindle and white dog, presented in hard, lean condition and catching the eye for his overall quality. He has a powerful, wide and strong head with just the right amount of turn and fill without being overdone, finished with a keen, intelligent expression. Dentition correct for incisors, with one correct canine. His front assembly is a real highlight, with beautifully laid shoulders and the correct length of humerus. He is perhaps just a shade long in back, but this is balanced by well-angled hindquarters, tight feet, and a well-set tail. Moved true and parallel going, though a little wide coming. He secured this class on his excellent construction - particularly his front, a virtue that is all too rare in Bull Terriers and indeed across many breeds.
Jowers’s CLANSMANN AIR OF MENACE – A large brindle and white powerhouse of a dog presenting a sweeping profile and a powerful, masculine head. He has a strong muzzle and correct bite. He was somewhat reluctant to use his ears, which detracted slightly from his overall expression. He carries substantial, strong bone throughout, supported by tight feet. His shoulders are well laid back; however, a slightly short upper arm gives him the impression of being a touch long. Overall, a quality dog of real merit, and I found myself vacillating between placing him first or second.
Pope’s RAZORSEDGE BERRY LANE at TEGENBULL – A white dog with brindle head markings who appeared somewhat overawed by the occasion. He has a pleasing profile with good depth and a keen expression. Dentition is excellent, with a perfect bite. He has decent shoulders and is complemented by excellent hind angulation.
Ahvenainen’s MIANDALE FROZEN IN TIME.
Mills’s RIGHTSTUFF BLACK KNIGHT.
LIMIT DOG
Bunce & Holkam’s ROUGEBULL FRAGILE SILENCE at DOUGHERTY – A powerful red and white dog with an outstanding headpiece - long, with excellent turn, deep and wide with plenty of fill, complemented by well-placed ears, an excellent expression, and a correct bite. Strongly constructed, with well-placed shoulders and well-angled stifles, supported by a powerful second thigh and tight feet. He is slightly out of balance, as he could benefit from a little more length of leg. He moved parallel both coming and going with good drive. Beautifully presented throughout. CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE DOG & BEST OF BREED
Sullivan’s DEVARCA ANYTHING GOES at DWELINEBULL – A brindle and white dog presented in gleaming condition. He shows a pleasing, sweeping profile and a correct bite, though I would prefer a little more depth to the head and ears set more on top to complete the expression. He has beautiful, strong, round bone and a lovely forechest, with a tendency to carry his tail a little high. Correct in length of back. Another good mover, covering the ground with drive in parallel strides.
OPEN DOG
Beckinsale’s TEIRWGWYN FULLY LOADED at CYWBULLYS – A white powerhouse of a dog, full of substance and strength. He has a lovely head with a well-turned profile, excellent fill, well-placed ears and a correct bite. He carries thick, round bone throughout, with a decent front, tight feet and a strong second thigh. Moved well both coming and going. On the day, he was a little loose in condition and his coat could have been better presented; improved presentation would undoubtedly take this dog to the next level. RESERVE CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE DOG
Thompson & Woodward’s GORBAIN DARK DESTROYER BARNESMORE – A brindle and white terrier-type dog with a pleasing head, showing a sweeping profile, nice fill and a correct bite. He has good layback of shoulder, tight feet, a short back and a well-turned stifle, although a little weak in second thigh. He has a sweet temperament and was well presented on the day.
PUPPY BITCH
Stanley’s ARICON BLINK OF AN EYE – A 10 and a half month-old, pale red and white puppy with pleasing body lines. She has a sweeping profile and a correct bite with well-placed ears and adequate fill, though more width and strength in the muzzle would complete the picture. She carries round bone with nice angulation throughout and tight feet. She made her handler work hard on the day. She was the frontrunner for Best Puppy, but unfortunately was not brought back into contention.
Leigh’s BULLWIZZ SHE IS LOVE – An 11 and a half month-old white with red eye marking that had a pleasing profile, showing good turn and fill and a nice expression when her interest was caught. Well built throughout with a shapely, balanced body and nice feet. She was out of coat and somewhat lacklustre in her ring presentation, appearing a little lazy on the day.
Dyson’s BULLWIZZ STAR ATTRACTION TAWNBARR – An 11 and a half month-old white puppy with brindle head markings. On reviewing the catalogue afterwards, she proved to be a litter sister to the previous exhibit, and was very similar in type, sharing many of the same qualities, differing only in having slightly less depth of head. A nice overall youngster, well made throughout. Moved well both coming and going and was well presented.
Jowers’s CLANSMANN WICKED OBSESSION.
JUNIOR BITCH
Zajac’s KENBLOOM MELINI – A black brindle and white junior with a shiny tuxedo-like coat. She has a nice profile with adequate fill, though she could benefit from a little more overall power to her head. Dentition is correct. Her front assembly could be better angulated, which would in turn improve her balance and shorten the appearance of her back, while she is well angulated behind. Moved parallel both coming and going. Lovely presentation throughout.
POST GRADUATE BITCH
Mathison’s BLAZINBULLYS BLACK WIDOW – A beautifully presented black brindle and white bitch in glossy condition. She has a sweeping profile with an excellent expression, though she could benefit from a little more strength in head and underjaw. Dentition correct for incisors with ok canines. She displays pleasing, feminine body lines with a level topline, nice feet and well-angled quarters.
Mountain’s BILBOEN WANDERLUST OPAL – A white bitch with black brindle head markings. She has a stunning head, showing a long, well-turned profile and correct incisors. A substantial, strongly built girl with excellent bone and a well-muscled second thigh. Her shoulders would benefit from better layback to complete the picture. Moved well.
Sullivan’s UNIONBUL’S HUNTRESS at DWELINEBULL – A six-year-old white bitch with black head markings, carrying a little extra weight. She is somewhat plain in profile but has excellent depth and a perfect bite. Beautifully constructed throughout, she has an excellent front assembly with well-laid shoulders and the correct length of humerus.
LIMIT BITCH
O’Reilly’s RAGNAROK LAGERTHA – A beautiful, strong, large brindle and white bitch who immediately caught my eye upon entering the ring. She has a beautiful head with a long, sweeping profile that combines depth and fill and a correct bite. She carries an alert expression and uses her ears well, completing the picture. A powerful girl with flowing body lines, good bone throughout and tight feet. She has decent shoulders, is a little long cast, but is well made behind with excellent hind angulation. Moved parallel coming and a little close going. On presenting the Challenge Certificate at the end of the show, I was surprised and pleased to discover she is a litter sister to the male I awarded a CC to at my previous judging appointment. CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE BITCH & BEST OPPOSITE SEX
Smithson’s REBELSIDE MYTHICAL MOON at PHOENIXSCAR – A white bitch with red head markings. She has a stunning head with good turn and fill and a correct bite. She has a long neck and is a little short in upper arm, which gives the impression of being slightly long cast. She has adequate shoulders, a straight front and a strong second thigh. A little overawed on the day, she did not fully make the most of herself in the ring.
OPEN BITCH - Two bitches between whom I deliberated closely, as they were very similar in many respects and both of excellent quality. I was therefore interested to learn afterwards that they are litter sisters.
Horton’s VETSBULLIES MY BABY DOES ME – A white bitch with red head markings. She has a pleasing profile with an excellent expression, enhanced by keen, “wicked” eyes and a correct bite. Balanced in construction, she carries good bone, decent shoulders and a nice topline. She moved parallel both coming and going with good drive. RESERVE CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE BITCH
Galla’s CH VETSBULLIES MADE IN HEAVEN – A white bitch with brindle head markings. She has a sweeping profile with good fill, a correct bite and an excellent expression, making good use of her ears. Her front assembly is adequate and she has nice feet with good bone and substance throughout. She moved well both coming and going.
