SPANIEL (AMERICAN COCKER)

Judge: Mr Andrew Scourfield

I was delighted to judge this breed again . Not a big entry but a quality one with some very promising youngsters coming along. Sad to see that many have small teeth, something that has been a problem since I was showing the breed many years ago, but apart from that the bites were all good.

I was very impressed with this buff dog. Only 7 months but developing well. He has a good head, masculine but not overdone, lovely stop and correct dark eyes of the correct shape, set well into his head which is well proportioned. Good ear set. Moving onto his body he has a good neck, at this age his shoulders need to lay back a bit, which they will. He moves around the ring in typical American style, keeping a good slightly sloping topline , sound fore and aft, with a good wide sidegate. Good textured coat which is very well presented. Once he has bodied up and matured he will be one to watch . BPD

1st: 1225 DRING, Mrs Donna & DRING, Mr Shaun Dream Boy From Vamos 10 months Black and Tan, with a good head, nice plush muzzle and well proportioned. He is short coupled and is developing good ribbing. Standing he-looks quite ordinary but he comes to life on the move going nicely round the ring maintaining a good topline. He needs to be handled with a bit more oomph to improve the overall look, especially when standing .

I liked the make and shape of this 20mths buff boy . He has an attractive head with good good stop and correct proportions. Ideal for size, he has a good neck into decent shoulders, topline excellent both standing and moving, I would like him with slightly more weight which would fill in his middle piece to advantage.

Sound coming and going with a good sidegate. Well presented and handled.

1st: 1227 HARRIS, Mr Will Sh Ch Zarcrest After Blend Very pleased to have the opportunity to go over this black and white boy who I have admired from the ringside and he does not disappoint. His head is excellent, well proportioned, good stop and ear set. Refined yet still masculine. He has excellent bone with a good forechest, and very well sprung ribs. A balanced dog with good coupling and good angles each end . Perfectly presented his coat is ice white and trimmed to advantage. Movement is excellent, good front reach corresponding to the drive from the rear . Excellent topline both standing and moving . He won this class in tough competition going on the gain the CC and then BOB . Pleased to see him shortlisted in the group.

2nd: 1231 MANSER, Mrs Amy & NELSON, Mrs Lisa Sh Ch Nujax Happy Halloween it was a pleasure to go over this big winning dog. His coat is immaculate , choc/tan, so not the easiest colour to present well. He has a well proportioned head, with good eye shape and positioning, good neck and shoulders with excellent topline both standing and moving. Nice well sprung ribs with short coupled loin. He motors round the ring with a big sidegate. Splitting hairs between 1 and 2 but today he had to be content with 2nd and the Res CC, 1st being a bit more masculine for a male.

1st: 1221 BOYLE, Miss Z Sh Ch Zarcrest Choc Ice Well well well, what a surprise to see this little lady back in the ring. Choc and white and dam of my BOB . I gave her her first CC many years ago from minor puppy. In the intervening years she won multiple CC’s and group placements including a Gp 1. Today she was presented with a lovely cut off coat and walked into the ring in her inimitable style like she owned the place, as if to say “I’m back” She has a super head, lovely angles at both ends, short hard back, and great legs which you can clearly see with her coat so short. She motored round the ring. Was lovely to see her again. I’m sure she enjoyed her day out. Best veteran in breed Delighted that she earned Vet Gp 3 in a quality entry .
