My sincere thanks to the committee of the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain for inviting me to judge as Referee for the second time. It was an honour and a pleasure to undertake this appointment. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for their sporting acceptance of my decisions and for the considerable pleasure of examining their dogs.

Brood Bitch Entries: 3; Absentees: 1

1st — Zarchenski Taboo Zilp at Pocketsibes — Dr K & Mr J Brown A feminine, standard-fitting bitch of pleasing overall balance, moderate bone and correct length of leg. Attractive, finely chiselled head with a keen yet friendly expression, well-set ears and a good length of neck flowing into a balanced body. Her progeny displayed a pleasing consistency of breed type, with sound construction, balanced proportions and the light, purposeful movement required of a working sled dog. A quality team in which the dam has clearly stamped her type. 2nd — Forstal’s Snow at Aurorasdream — Miss N R Simmons Another valuable brood bitch, presented with progeny showing good working qualities, moderate substance and pleasing breed character. Balanced in outline, with a functional body, firm condition and an agreeable temperament. Her family moved soundly and displayed the strength and endurance expected of the breed. Not quite the overall uniformity and finish of the winners today, but much to appreciate.

Brace Entries: 4; Absentees: 2

1st — Miss N R Simmons A well-matched brace of medium-sized, moderate and functional Siberians. Similar in general type, outline and substance, with pleasing heads, good length of leg and balanced construction throughout. Presented in firm condition and moved together with a smooth, easy and purposeful stride. The more evenly matched pair today. 2nd — Dr K & Mr J Brown A quality brace displaying good breed type, attractive heads and balanced proportions. Both were moderate in bone, well presented and moved with freedom and enthusiasm. They worked well together, although they were not quite as evenly matched in outline and movement as the winning brace.

Christine Grisbrooke Special Open Memorial Stakes Entries: 12; Absentees: 5

1st — Ch Inneska Malachite — Mr J & Mrs D McInnes A most impressive, masculine male who was not coarse or overdone. He presented a beautifully balanced and functional outline, combining moderate bone with strength, agility and substance appropriate to his size. Finely chiselled, fox-like head with a keen expression, correctly placed ears and a well-arched neck flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Firm, level topline, taut loin and balanced angulation fore and aft. He came into his own on the move, covering the ground with excellent reach and drive while remaining light, smooth and apparently effortless. His overall balance, soundness and fitness for function secured him this strong class. 2nd — Forstal’s Jetska at Aurorasdream — Miss N R Simmons A feminine, quality bitch of excellent breed type, medium size and moderate bone. Pleasing head and expression, well-set ears and a good length of neck leading into a balanced, clean-cut outline. Correct body proportions, firm topline and well-coordinated angulation allowed her to move freely with good reach and useful drive. Presented in excellent condition and handled to advantage. A worthy second; I marginally preferred the winner’s overall finish and freedom of stride on the day. 3rd — Vikerkollen’s FF Vidar for Inneska (Imp Nor) — Mr J & Mrs D McInnes A very promising young male with much to admire. Masculine without heaviness, with a finely chiselled head, attractive expression, well-positioned ears and balanced proportions. Moderate bone, good length of leg, compact feet and a correctly shaped fox-brush tail completed a pleasing outline. Smooth and purposeful on the move, showing good coordination and the potential for an efficient, ground-covering stride. Naturally less mature and finished than the two placed above him, but an exciting prospect for the future.
