I would like to thank the committee of South Wales KA for granting me the privilege of awarding Challenge Certificates to Welsh Springer Spaniels in their native country. I was delighted with my entry in both WSS and NSDTR, as a general observation gundogs are a working breed even if they do not participate in the field they should still be in firm condition and a few exhibits were carrying too much weight which did have an impact on my decisions that were all taken in good grace with a lovely atmosphere around the ring.

1ST 3806 - Don's Constant Gardner von Trannon (Imp Swe) (Mrs G A & Mr D T Lewis) 7 Month Dog of good size. He has a decent length of muzzle and a clear brown eye just has more stop at this time than I was looking for but has good width of skull and a nicely shaped ear. Standing he tended to look a little square as he's gone up on his legs slightly. He has a well made front assembly and his strongly shaped rear gave driving movement once he settled.

1ST 3792 - Westaway Return Call to Kazval (Imp Nor) (K Anderson) I really love the outline of this 15 month dog, he has a very typey head with a good length of muzzle which balanced out nicely with a moderate stop, kind brown eye with a bright expression and a small well set ear which he used to good advantage. He flows through the neck and shoulder with a good amount of forechest very balanced in outline showing the correct ratios of height to length with ribs going well back. His well muscled rear has a lovely width of stifle correct in bone with tight feet his steady movement meant he really covered the ground. Put down in excellent condition with rich red and pearly white coat could not be denied the RCC.
2ND 3819 - Merchinetes Taliesin at Typica (Mrs J M Rees) I found this boy to have a stronger head with a little more stop and back skull than my winner. He has length and depth to his muzzle and a well shaped eye. Laid back shoulder flowed into a firm top line with depth and spring to his rib. Not quite in the toned condition of first but showed a clean profile action.

1ST 3795 - Menstonia Endless Dreams JW (Mrs G Bennion) Promising young dog with a true, balanced outline. His head is masculine with a good length of muzzle and soft brown eye. Strong through the neck leading to a firm topline with depth and spring of rib underneath. His broad rump has wide muscled thighs, moved out covering plenty of ground.
2ND 3800 - Merchinetes Padrig (Mrs A & Mr T Griffiths) Typey head on this boy with a kind eye on the lighter side of brown, well set ear and strong through the neck. He is deep in body, just needs a touch more length of leg to balance him out. He is muscled with good bone, in profile his action was good just a little untidy going away.

1ST 3805 - Glenbrows Erasmus for Gilpeta (Mr P & Mrs G Johnstone) A balanced dog of good proportions, he has length to his muzzle, a tight brown eye and well set on ear. I liked his depth of body and proportional length of leg. Moved out steady and true showing good reach
2ND 3824 - Tigerrock Top Gun (Mr D & Miss G Thomas) This boy is in the hardest of muscletone, put down in amazing condition without anything hidden. Kind, nicely shaped eye set in a well proportioned skull. His front assembly is very smart with the correct amount of forechest and plenty of rib behind leading to a muscled but athletic rear. Unfortunately the change of handler for moving seemed to unsettle him so he didn’t show his movement to best advantage.

1ST 3828 - Sh Ch Nyliram The Alibi for Trebettyn JW (Mr & Mrs T Williams) Eye catching young dog with the archetypal outline I was looking for. He has a quality head, not overdone in any way, with a bright brown eye and tidy ear of correct size and shape. From neck to rear he just flows under your hands with lovely angulation throughout and showing balance in length to height ratios. Put down in fabulous rich red and white coat and firm condition. A bold mover who I would love to have seen in a huge ring where he could really get going but he showed his strong driving action especially in the challenge where he could not be denied the CC.
2ND 3803 - Sh Ch Glenbrows Turn Back Time JW (Mr T D & Mrs H L Harrison) Strongly made, masculine headed dog with a well shaped brown eye. He has an impressive front assembly with depth to his rib and a broad rump. Standing and moving he argued a bit with his handler but did behave enough to show his clean lines going around the ring.

1ST 3820 - Benoveor Can't Buy Me Love (Miss K & Mrs V Reynolds & Mcilwaine) Beautiful bitch who certainly didn’t look like a veteran. She has an elegant head with a rich brown eye and tidy, well set ear. Lovely reach of neck leading to well set shoulders and a beautiful front assembly with plenty of rib behind it, in excellent condition beautifully presented. Her well muscled rear gave positive, driving movement and she covered the ground effortlessly BVIB
2ND 3793 - Ir Sh Ch Kylowen Demelza VW Ir Vch (B & K Attwood) Smaller framed, dainty bitch with a pretty head and well shaped, kind eye. She is well-developed through the body, with a firm topline and a well-set tail. Her angulation is moderate both fore and aft with a good length of leg. She maintains her outline while moving out steadily.

1ST 3826 - Amberdella Aquarius (Mrs S E Whitfield) 7 month bitch with the most delightful personality. She has the sweetest of heads with a twinkling brown eye and well set shapely ear. She is developing along lovely lines with a very promising balanced outline and clean bone. She has the happiest demeanour on the move with lovely reach and drive BP
2ND 3810 - Benoveor Think of Me (Mrs V & Miss H & Mrs J Mcilwaine & Mcilwaine & Reynolds) I was very taken with this pretty youngster who was unfortunately getting over a bad experience, I do hope she regains her confidence as she is a lovely puppy. She has a feminine head of lovely proportions and a soft, well shaped eye. Her topline is strong with balanced angulation and enough bone for her age. Unsure on the move but I did not see anything to concern me with moments of tidy, promising movement.

She has a feminine head with a good length and shape to her muzzle, gently brown eye and well placed ear. Her neck flows smoothly into a lovely shoulder and firm topline. Correct ratios of body and leg with a firm topline and well presented throughout. Steady and true on the move covering plenty of ground.
2ND 3807 - Eiriandylis Strange Magic von Trannon JW (Mrs G A & Mr D T Lewis) Feminine bitch with the most beautiful head and expression. She is nicely angulated throughout with good depth and spring of rib and a well muscled rear. On the move she showed a tidy footfall with plenty of drive.

1ST 3798 - Sh Ch Nyliram Telling Tales JW ShCEx OSW (Mr T Graham) This bitch is the true essence of a Welsh Springer Spaniel, she is quality through and through. Her head is well chiselled and so feminine with the gentlest of expressions. She is so well made throughout with laidback shoulder and lovely front assembly, height to length ratio is balanced with a broad muscled rear and good width to her stifle. Put down in top class, gleaming condition she moved out steady and true with that effortless grace of an athlete who is at the pinnacle of her career. CC and BOB which I was informed later meant she equalled the breed record, congratulations
2ND 3814 - Brent Oyster Bay (Mrs R & Mr D Moore) Whilst not as eyecatching as my winner this girl is of a similar mould so well constructed and showing true balance. She has a pretty, refined head with a tight brown eye and well set ear. Good reach of neck leading to sloping shoulders and straight front, she is well developed in chest with a firm correct topline and muscled rear. She nearly threw everything away on the move pulling away from her handler but thankfully she settled and I got to see her strong driving movement which earned her RCC

1ST 3638 - Eusanit Peaky Blinder (Miss P A Rogers) Well balanced, compact dog showing lovely breed type. He has a correct, wedge shaped head with clean cheeks and a soft brown eye. He is well off for bone with a muscled medium length neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. He has a good spring and depth of rib with a firm loin and balanced angulation fore and aft when gave a light ground covering action. BD
2ND 3641 - Ir Sh Ch Eusanit Proper Job JW (Mrs T M & Miss S Westwood) Stronger built dog with a slightly squarer head than my ideal but he has a bright dark eye and clean cheek. His strong neck leads nicely into a well built front with the correct amount of forechest. He is well off for bone with tight, round feet, on the move he really strode out showing a great action. RBD

1ST 3643 - Eusanit Moment of Clarity among Roanjora (Mrs T, Miss S & Miss R Westwood & McDonald) Promising young boy with lots of potential. I loved his head with its wedge shape and tidy ear, bright brown eye full of mischief. His angles and body are all correct for his age which bodes well for the future. On the move he was light and bouncy with an eye catching tail. BP
2ND 3640 - Eusanit Cornishsand Mordros (Mrs T M & Miss S Westwood) Another bright young dog with bags of promise. He is an excellent make and shape with a very typey head and bright eye. He still needs to learn his trade when it comes to standing and moving but I’m sure that will come quickly with the sympathetic handling he was getting.

1ST 3615 - Afonbach River Guardian (Ms A M & Miss A L Adshead) Well built masculine dog with a strong head, clean cheeks and a good width of skull. He is of good size but is balanced with plenty of depth and rib leading to a firm coupling and moderate but muscled rear. He seemed determined to do things his way but showed a light ground covering movement.
2ND 3637 - Tollpepper Celtic Zephyr JW (Mrs J M & Miss E K Trickett & O'connor) Smaller framed dog who lacked the substance and finish of my winner, that being said he was well made throughout, correct in head with a bright, alert expression. He is firm through the neck and shoulder with a good return of upperarm and a pleasing topline. His rear has plenty of muscle with a good width to his stifle. On the moved he was very tidy, clean and true.

1ST 3630 - Tarnlaikers Perfect Pink JW (Mrs J P Johnson) Dainty bitch, very feminine throughout with a lovely typical head and bright expressive eye. She has a well made front and lovely depth and spring of rib maybe a fraction longer in loin than my ideal but she held her topline standing and moving,
2ND 3614 - Afonbach Dance with Dragons JW (Ms A M & Miss A L Adshead) Bigger bitch than 1st but still correct. She has a lovely wedge head with a dark brown eye and well set on ears. Firm through the neck just carrying a little weight over her shoulders. She has well sprung ribs of good depth under a strong topline. Her well shaped rear was toned with let down hocks, she was out for a fun day just a bit over enthusiastic going around the ring.

1ST 3622 - Winter Snowflake Amber Glade of Korutorr (Imp Pol) (Mr E & Mrs E Gough) What a delicious baby this young lady is, at the moment she needs time to grow and fill but what she does have is the sweetest of heads, very feminine but true to type with a bright eye and tidy ear. Her make and shape holds lots of promise and she was a joy to watch going around the ring, she just seemed to flag a little when it came to the challenge but one i will certainly watch in the future.

She is so well made with a lovely front and forechest, good depth and spring to her rib under a firm topline. She has a lovely muscled rear, clean bone and tight round feet. She is clean and balanced in outline with a good depth and spring to her rib. Her well muscled rear meant she could really cover the ground but was still light on her feet.
2ND 3639 - Eusanit Redora JW (Miss P A Rogers) Smart bitch of bigger frame than my winner but is all in proportion. Kind wedge shaped head with a bright, well shaped eye and good width of skull. Correct length of neck leading to well set shoulders and a firm topline with plenty of rib underneath. Showed good drive on the move keeping a tidy outline.

She has a lovely neck and shoulder which is balanced out by a strong rear, good bone and let down hocks. She was a picture on the move showing a clean, lively gait.
2ND 3642 - Travelda's Genevieve Pine avec Eusanit (Imp Usa) (Mrs T M & Miss S Westwood) I liked the size and shape of this bitch but she certainly wasn’t in the mood to show herself off today. She has a pleasing eye and good width to her skull, a touch more muzzle would balance her head out but she has a well set on ear and substantial neck. Well made throughout with lovely muscletone and plenty of rib. She was quite tense on the move but was true and steady.

1ST 3616 - Sh Ch Afonbach Syrax JW (Ms A M & Miss A L Adshead) This bitch is everything I was looking for, compact, jaunty and just oozing quality. She has the most beautiful outline with a feminine wedge shaped head and dark brown eye which could be a little more almond in shape but did not detract from her bright, alert expression. She is so well angulated with depth and a spring to her which makes her look broad but it is all rib. Put down in tip top condition she commanded attention as she flew around the ring showing great style and accuracy. BB and BOB
2ND 3636 - Cfyre's Spellbreaker at Tollpepper Awb (Imp Can) (Mrs J M & Miss E K Trickett & O'connor) Larger framed bitch than my winner, she has a good length of muzzle and lighter brown almond eye. Well set triangular ear used to advantage and firm through the neck leading to a strong topline with plenty of rib underneath. She has a broad rear and well let down hock, steady and unassuming on the move.
