Leonberger Association Championship Show 3rd July 2026   

I would like to thank the Committee for their kind invitation to judge, my two very capable stewards Debbie and Richard, and to the exhibitors who entered their lovely dogs. Temperaments were excellent and I had some super examples of the breed to go over. I felt the quality of the entry overall was high and I was especially pleased to see some top quality puppies as this bodes well for the future of our breed. Most exhibits displayed strong rear drive in profile even when they may have moved closer going away than would be ideal. Movement coming towards in many cases was less precise, in particular a number of exhibits were paddling coming towards. I was a little concerned to see a number of exhibits with misaligned lower incisors (and not just the dropped middle incisors that sometimes happens with age).

Charwin & Davies’ Jarno Bcoz Its My Time at Debbollinby 

What a great class to start my day. Super outline at just 8 months, with everything in balance. Masculine head with correct proportions, strong mask and high set ears giving a lovely expression. Good depth and width to chest, excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. Strong rear assembly with moderate angulation, balanced front and rear. Stood parallel from both directions and moved true covering the ground well. I liked him a lot and was tempted to give him higher honours BPIS

Moulsdale’s Simberger Royal Velvet of Berglowe 

Another quality pup. A little more raw than my first place at only 6 months, with not quite the outline of the class winner, but still a lot to like. Head with good length of muzzle to skull, well defined mask and high set ears giving the desired kind expression. Strong bone and well let down hocks. Appears a little high on his legs at the moment, but as he is still a baby with a lot of maturing to do, I would expect time to resolve this. Moved freely in profile, but was not so precise coming and going.

Studholme’s La Dolce Luna's Color of Wise Force at Kalizmar

Well grown youngster. Correct ratio of skull to muzzle, good earset and well defined mask giving a pleasing expression. Strong body with good depth to chest, spring of rib and well boned legs. moderately angled all round. Moved freely in profile. Needs to tighten up in front and behind as would be expected at his age

Ross’s Debbollinby Clansman

Good size dog with a strong profile. Well proportioned head with defined mask and correctly set ears used well to create the desired expression. Good reach of neck, with appropriate depth and width to chest. Moderately angled rear providing good drive in profile and held his firm topline. A bit close going away and imprecise coming but at just over a year he has lots of time to strengthen

Glover’s Debbollinby Craftsman

Litter brother to 1, Similar in many ways but appeared less mature with not quite the substance of his brother. Masculine head of good proportions, good length of neck, strong topline, and well angled rear. Looking a bit high on his legs at the moment which time should remedy. Retained topline on move but needs to tighten in front and strengthen behind

Lewis’s Isaac Bory Cysterskie (Imp Pol)

Substantial male with a balanced outline. Correct head proportions, mask and earset. Well off for bone, good shoulder and return of upper arm. Chest deep with good spring of rib and moderately angled rear. Firm topline, retained on move, with good reach in front and drive behind. Moved well in profile and coming towards but slightly close behind

Moulsdale’s Cookie Bombs Leo from The Old Oaks to Berglowe JW (Imp Deu)

Difficult choice between 1 & 2. Preferred 2 slightly on the stand but 1 won out on his movement. Masculine head with kind expression. Well defined mask and correctly set ears. Strong bone, and good depth to chest. Nicely balanced overall. Moved freely, striding out and retaining his topline with strong movement going away, although less precise coming

Ross’s Gilvaris Puzzle Master

Lovely outline on the stand. Masculine head, good mask and expression, Well balanced with good length of neck and firm topline. Strong bone, Moved well in profile but was close behind going away and loose in front coming. Would like to see him strengthen all round

Lovely outline on the stand and balanced throughout. Substantial male with masculine head of good proportions and correct earset. Soft expression. Nice spring of rib and depth to chest, firm topline (although the lay of his coat can mask this). Strong bone. Nothing overdone, balanced on the move, true coming and going, One of the few dogs that moved really true coming towards.RCC

Simmond’s Skjaergaardens Dance Monkey Dance JW

Quite different but with a lot to like about him. Balanced outline with masculine well proportioned head, well set ears and a pleasing expression. Good reach of neck firm topline and strong bone. Moved out well in profile but closer behind and less precise in front than 1

Strong class. I really liked this boy. Balanced on the stand with no exaggeration. Masculine head with correct proportions of skull to muzzle, defined mask and high set ears used well. Slightly rounded eye but this did not detract from his expression. Neck strong and of good length, firm topline, Good depth and width to chest. Well-boned limbs and moderately angled rear. Powerful but still retaining elegance. Moved well from all angles. Pleased to award him CC. (His second I believe) CC, RBIS, BOS

Thomas & Studholme’s Ch Amathus Karmer

Another quality male. Looked powerful with masculine head of correct proportions and well set ears. Good shoulder placement and depth of chest. Front angles balanced with rear. Strong flowing movement in profile with good drive and firm topline but not as precise coming and going as 1

Well proportioned head with soft expression, Strong neck and front assembly with good bone and firm topline. Moved ok but was carrying a little extra weight and with the heat his heart didn’t really seem in it today

Well proportioned pup of 6 months. Very balanced from all angles on the stand. Feminine head with the darkest eyes, correct mask and earset. Good depth and width of chest for age, firm topline moderately angled rear. Moved true from all angles.

Close decision between 1 and 2. Quite different but they both had a lot to like about them. Feminine head, a little more mature with dark eyes, correct mask and ears used well. Lovely in profile with chest developing and well balanced angles front and rear. Moved well in profile. Not as precise coming and going as 1

Cummings’s Hillhaven Sail Away Sweet Sister (IKC) 

Feminine head with skull and muzzle in proportion in both length and depth, dark eyes, well defined mask, and correctly set ears, used well to give a super expression. Excellent proportions throughout, with strong bone, arched neck, well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. Strong rear assembly with moderate angulation. Moved with drive and looked balanced from all directions. Very nice youngster. RCC, RBPIS

Well defined mask, dark eyes and correct earset. Good depth to chest and strong shoulder assembly with well boned limbs and moderately angled rear. Moved well in profile. Quite close moving away and needs to tighten coming. Preferred the head and movement of 1

In profile standing a bit high on her legs at the moment. Head developing with good proportions of skull to muzzle. Firm topline and moderately angled rear. Moved ok in profile and true going away, but needs to tighten in front.

Sherwood’s Saljay Tgo Pink Cadillac

Well constructed female, with strong head, and depth to lower jaw. Correct mask and earset giving a kind expression. Deep chest with well sprung ribs and good bone. Balanced angles front and rear with a firm topline held on the move. Moved well in profile and coming towards, a little close when moving away. Unfortunately tad heavy and appeared to have left most of her breeches and tail hair at home.

Peachey’s Nevaeh Mishka Chosen CC at Taffnia (Imp Est) 

Feminine head with excellent mask and earset. Good length of neck. Strong bone without being over heavy. Balanced front and rear angles and a super firm topline. Although her body appeared slightly longer than I would prefer on the stand, with hands on and seeing her move I realised this wasn’t the case. Very free moving with a ground covering stride holding her topline. True going away but not as precise in front coming as I would like

Herod’s Leosrus Powers That Be

Well constructed female with head of good proportions, strong mask and well set ear, sweet expression, although she has lost some pigment around the mouth. Good bone, strong forehand and well balanced overall, Moved with drive although I preferred the profile movement of 1

Weaver’s Ch Simden Maida Girl Like You

This girl stood out in a strong class. Beautifully balanced profile with everything in proportion. Head strong but so feminine well defined mask and high set ears used to enhance her soft expression. Arched neck and strong front assembly with good bone, complimented by level topline and equally strong rear. Moved true front and rear holding topline in profile and driving out well from powerful quarters. Nothing to dislike. Well deserved CC and BIS

Amesbury’s Morwinas Torrinsdottir

Quite different to 1, being a little stronger in the head with slightly more stop but still very much a female. Lovely clean outline on the stand with no heaviness around the neck despite her mane. Looked very balanced in profile with good depth and width to chest and strong bone. Moved freely retaining her topline. I would have liked her movement tighter coming and going.

Amesbury’s Prada-Ikboy Du Domaine De La Noyaraye avec Morwinas (Imp Fra) 

I liked this bitch for her overall shape and balance. While her head and expression would benefit from using her ears more, her overall construction was excellent. Strong neck and shoulders with well boned forelimbs. Decent width and depth of chest and moved out really well covering the ground with ease. Lovely to see such an obviously happy healthy veteran BVIS
