Papillons
Many thanks to the Committee for the invitation to judge Papillons, also to all the exhibitors who entered & hopefully understood my decisions which on occasion were tricky.
Overall I found the breed to be sound but some front high stepping & rear weak movement caused concern. In some instances heads were more 'Collie' than Papillon with no definable stop which accentuates the true skull shape. Dirty mouths & bums were quite frankly unacceptable as were lack of clean coats some of which were quite harsh to the touch, the coat should be single & silky! Temperaments were good however some were a little unsettled on the table due to other dog's behaviour nearby & bitches in season, allowances were made for that. I wish handlers would learn how to show their dog's mouths, too may fumbled about thus upsetting their dog, also engaging with the dog when going around the ring pays off big time, just plodding round doesn't work!
Judging is about what you see & interpret on the day, not being influenced or coerced by others before a show, we all see things differently & admire dogs from afar, but when you actually meet them physically that can change your perception.
