National Gundog Association

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of National Gundog for the opportunity to judge Irish Setters at this prestigious show. My stewards were fantastic on the day and kept the ring running smoothly. Many thanks also to David Pike for taking my photos. 

It was due to be a hot day and it was announced prior to the show that we would both judge indoors. However on the morning we both felt it was cool enough to judge outside, and we just managed to complete before it got too warm. Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries and sportsmanship on my decisions which were very difficult due to the high quality of exhibits on the day. All dogs were presented and shown in tip top condition a credit to their owners.

VD (4,1)

1. Russell`s ShCh Lynwood Hocus Pocus at Settesoli JW . At 9yrs old this boy certainly gets better each time I have seen him. Shown in immaculate coat. Correct head shape, long and lean with good depth to stop, nice dark eye, and pleasing expression. He is balanced throughout , has good depth to chest with spring of rib, displaying good angulation both front and rear. Moved off on strong hocks with reach and drive. BVD 

2. Pym,Bott & Milligan-Bott`s Thendara Marshmellow JW ShChEx OSW VW. Different style to my 1st place, but doesn’t disappoint when going over him. Lovely masculine head with good depth to stop, dark expressive eyes and raised brow. Strong muscled arched neck into well placed shoulders. Gently sloping in topline from neck to tail. Strong in front with deep chest and well sprung ribs . Stands on good bone with neat feet. Good angulation front and rear, moved well. 

3. Gilks Suteresett Mr Mistoffelees at Gochmawr 

MPD (2,0)

1. Berry & Morris`s Forfarian The Uncloaked. A typical youngster with a balanced outline and pleasing proportions. Attractive head with good chiselling, dark eye, and a kind expression. Clean neck flowing into well-laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Good depth to chest , and firm in topline. Appropriate body for his age, with good spring of rib, correct coupling and well-made quarters. Somewhat erratic on the move today, has a quality rich dark coat and very promising .

2. Dow`s Forfarian The Recruited .Litter brother to my winner. Same comments apply and could change places on another day, both quality puppies with a bright future ahead.

PD (3,0) 

1. Needs Covarney Mighty Quinn with Stourford. Youngster of good type and was presented in first class coat and condition. Head of very good proportion with nice dark eye and good expression. Moderate length of neck, sound in front assembly, and has nice tight feet. Good depth to chest with spring to rib, nice gently sloping topline which was held on the move. Has much to like about him pleased to award him BPD 

2. Turner`s Dazycutter Blazing Fire, Close to winner, also has much to like about him, and was of good type with a well balanced body. Masculine head with moderate neck. Good bone, legs and feet and also very well presented in good coat and condition , covered ground but not quite as adequate as my winner today. 

 3. Pullen & Atkin`s Covarney Can`t Hear You at Jacingail 

JD (4,1) 

1. Hardy & Rusinek`s Cafotaliena Play With Fire. One I have seen from the ringside on his debut, and did not disappoint going over this well balanced boy. Has a lovely handsome head with correct planes, good reach of neck, correct well laid shoulders, depth to chest with good spring to rib, strong in rear and moved out with reach and drive holding his topline, one I shall watch with interest, has a very bright future I am sure. 

2. Hyslop`s Gwendariff Little White Lie . Good angulation fore and aft with good return of upper arm presenting correct balanced picture, good body depth, liked his expression and head planes with good finish to foreface, moved well holding his topline 

3. Gilray`s Forfarian Take A Chance 

YD (4,1)

1. Foster`s Ixia Boys Don`t Cry at Shanoah JW . Racy, well put together boy. Lovely appealing head with correct level planes, dark eye, moderate reach of neck, well placed in shoulder, sound in front, deep in chest with good spring to rib, gently sloping in topline, well angulated strong rear quarters. Moved around the ring with reach and drive. Should have a good future. 

2. Presta`s Vamos Della Magna Sila . A quality youngster that could not be denied his placing today. He is of excellent type, balanced, elegant and refined throughout. In profile has a balanced outline with old style for me, moderate reach of neck into well placed shoulders, good depth of chest, good front and rear angulation showing good width across the thigh. Nice rich dark chestnut quality coat with plenty of feathering. Presentation A1, he moved soundly but not as racy as my winner today.

1. Harris`s Fairhaven Young Soul for Konakakela JW One I have also watched from a youngster and progressing well. Shown in full coat he has a pleasing head with soft gentle expression, moderate reach of neck into well laid shoulders, sound in front with good angulation, deep in chest with spring to rib, wide in rear, in profile gently sloping in topline which he held on the move. 

2. Sheldon`s Bardonhill That`s All Right at Delsanto. A quality youngster with loads of promise, well balanced, lovely refined head, nice reach of neck going into good shoulders, well constructed and sound in front with good depth of chest, sound in front and rear angulation with pleasing width across croup, dark chestnut quality coat with plenty of feathering. Moved soundly 

3. Roberts, Wadden & Crocker`s Rafinha Lofty via Riverbrue 

PGD (8,1) 

1. Lorrimer`s Gwendariff Disco Dazzler JW . Eyecatching well balanced boy that ouzes quality. Clean in outline when stacked. Most handsome and appealing head with level planes, dark eye and presenting a lovely expression, sound in front, Good depth to chest with spring to rib, strong well angulated rear quarters, moved around the ring with reach and drive holding his topline, presented in tip top condition and handled to perfection. One I did consider for RCC. 

 2.Levene & Lewis`s Quensha Remember The Name Valasarch .One I have placed highly before , well balanced boy with good substance, pleasing in head with melting expression, correct front with good angulation, good reach to neck leading into well placed shoulders, deep in chest with well sprung rib, gently sloping in topline, strong and wide rear, moved effortlessly around the ring, presented and handled to perfection. Unlucky to meet my overall winner today. 

3. Dow`s Forfarian Fancy Some Fun 

MLD (8,2) 

1. Richardson`s Bardonhill McIntosh Red at Montgreenan JW .A well balanced boy with good substance that I have watched since his first show. Handsome in head with true Irish expression. Good reach of neck, Sound in front with well pronounced sternum, good depth to chest with nice spring to rib, gently sloping in topline, strong wide rear with good angulation, moved around the ring with reach and drive from strong hocks , today I was pleased to award him the RCC 

2. Sheldon`s Bardonhill A Million Ways to Delsanto One I have placed highly before, and unlucky to meet my winner today, He has a handsome head, well balanced in body, sound in front with good angulation, deep in chest with good spring to rib, strong in rear and moved well around the ring with drive. 

3. Russell`s Tiroen Touch of Magic by Settesoli JW 

LD (7,1) 

1. Bott`s Bardonhill Million to One. Another I have placed highly before and has still not changed, handsome in head with a striking outline, has a good front with correct angulation, deep in chest with good spring to ribcage, gently sloping in topline to strong rear quarters. Shown in good coat and condition, moving around the ring with reach and drive holding his strong topline.

2. Parson`s Quensha Thinking Out Loud at Bransett JW One I have given top award as puppy before. He has turned out to be a lovely boy. Today unfortunate to meet my winner. Handsome head with a mischievous expression, Moderate reach of neck, Sound in front with correct angulation, deep in chest with good spring to rib, gently sloping topline, strong in rear, moved out well with lashing tail. 

 3. Corless`s Swiftlark Spellbinder ShCEx 

OD (5,0) 

1. Ellrich`s ShCh/Ir Shch/ Int Ch/Fin Ch Gwendariff Absolutely Marwe`llus Cw24,WW24,WW25. A dog that stands out from the crowd, an absolute stunner!! Well balanced boy of outstanding quality. In profile he has clean lines from the tip of his head to the tip of his tail. Has the most handsome of heads with good depth of stop, dark eye and melting expression, good reach of neck with slight arch, good shoulder placement , sound in front with correct angulation, nice tight cat like feet, deep in chest with good spring of rib, gently sloping topline with good set-on of tail. Shown in well muscular condition and groomed to perfection. Moved around the ring with reach and drive. Pleased to award him the CC and in agreement with my Co-Judge BOB 

2. Edwards ShCh Copper`s Get Off My Cloud by Bonhomie .Balanced boy, has a lovely handsome head with good stop, dark eye with raised brow. Good reach and muscled arched neck into well placed shoulders. Gently sloping topline. Correct front with deep chest. Stands on good bone with neat tight feet. Good angulation front and rear. Shown in gleaming coat and condition. Moved with purpose around the ring. Unlucky to meet 1 today.
