Firstly, may I extend a huge thank you to the secretary and the committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for the kind invitation to judge my beloved breed at one of my favourite shows. And may I also extend that thanks to all the exhibitors who always humble me by giving me an entry, you made a special day giving my first set of CCs very special indeed.
Based on my findings on the entry on the day, the breed overall is still strongest in the bitches with some very exciting high-quality youngsters coming through. Very pleasing to see and a privilege to judge.
Puppy Dog (2 Entries 0 Abs)
Only two in this class, but an exciting class of youngsters nonetheless
1st Mayne, Anderson and Steere’s Michiamo Vivvy Wizz, 11-month-old white and orange dog. A good-sized dog of balanced proportions, with very good bone and substance for his age. He has excellent length of upper arm, which is lacking in a few, good lay of shoulder and enough depth for his age. Correct topline which he held on the move. He has a beautiful head, muzzle strong with correct scissor bite, lean with great skull to muzzle ratio, topped off with the desired pronounce occiput. His eyes could darken a fraction but are correct for his colour and age and do not detract from his lovely expression. Coat texture could be harsher, positive in movement today, best puppy dog. A very promising boy who I will follow with interest.
2nd Smith’s Affilato Bullseye 7-month-old white and orange dog has lots of potential but obviously not as mature as first and relatively speaking giving away a lot in age today. Square of good proportions, he has good bone and feet, lovely head with correct divergent planes, correct scissor bite, with lovely expression and pronounced occiput. Coat coming in, for a ‘baby, baby’ he moved ok. One to watch.
Junior Dog (0 Entries)
Postgraduate Dog (0 Entries)
Limit Dog (4 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Blanchard’s Osulf Peanut Barney 21-month-old brown roan dog, first impression a promising young dog with very good coat texture and colour. Balanced when stood correctly, strong neck into typical topline and strong over croup. Decent bone and feet, a head of lovely proportions with kind eye, correct scissor bite. A lovely youngster, novice handler but improving as the class went on. Not the finished article but where you would want him for age.
2nd Burrows’ Quebaikei Tartan N Tweed, 3.5-year-old brown roan dog, different type to first but I really liked this boy, he has very good bone and large feet, excelled in upper arm and lay of shoulder, well sprung rib with good depth, maturing nicely. Masculine head of correct proportions, I loved his grouchy expression! Coat of a lovely colour, although could be a bit more of it. I thought he was my winner, however he wasn’t focused today moved by a handler and unfortunately looking for ‘mum’
3rd Collett’s Stagerun Matteo
Res, Mackay’s Testaverde Deal or No Deal
Open (3 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Clark & Sharp’s Sh Ch Affilato You Can Bank On It (JW), rising 4-year-old white and orange dog, balanced throughout with great bone, depth and spring of rib, he has a beautiful masculine head of correct proportions with correct scissor bite and a lovely eye of correct shape and size giving desired ‘melting’ expression. Very good coat texture, shown in excellent condition, powerful rear movement propelled him effortlessly around the ring to take DCC & BOB today. Beautiful dog, well done.
2nd Duncan’s Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail (JW ShCEX OSW), 4-year-old white and orange dog. Another lovely example of the breed, again this boy is all male, and another with a lovely masculine head of correct balanced and proportions, again excellent bone and substance, good feet, well-constructed throughout. Cleaner topline on this boy, again moving very well, pushed hard, but I just preferred the drive of first. RCC and his well-deserved title. Huge well done, you should be proud of him, a worthy champion.
3rd Griffin’s Sanjika Kyros
Veteran Dog (1 Entry 0 Abs)
1st Collett’s Stagerun Kestrel 7.5-year-old brown roan dog, moving well for a veteran, coat of good colour and texture. Pleasing bone and feet, good depth and substance overall, very good topline which he held on the move , couldn’t match the younger dogs on the day in the challenge.
Good Citizen Dog (1 Entry 0 Abs)
1st Mackay’s Testaverde Deal or No Deal 3.5-year-old brown roan boy, on initial inspection a handsome dog, darker than desired, obviously slow maturing as this breed tends to be, needing to drop in body and needing a little bit more him all through. Coat was of a good texture, movement ok. As someone who owned a bitch that did not look the complete picture until 7, I would be interested to see him at 5 or 6 to see his progress.
As with puppy dog, an exciting class of young bitches.
Puppy Bitch (5 Entries 1 Abs)
1st Bovio’s Isolo Sniffed It Once. Beautiful 7-month-old brown roan bitch, what a cracker! Square and of a good size, very good coat texture and colour. Stood she is balanced throughout with very good oval bone, correct feet with visible tendons. Very good upper arm to shoulder placement/ ratio, desired pronounced sternum, correct topline with strong croup, good width and depth throughout for a youngster. A lovely baby, BPIB, Gundog puppy group 1 and BPIS!!!! Many congratulations.
2nd James’ Affilato Game On, 6-month-old very pretty, white and orange bitch puppy, another exciting prospects and a lot of the above comments also apply to this young lady. A very well put together young bitch with a very beautiful head, correct all through. Moved ok, a little weak in topline today and not as far on as first, but I could see these two swapping places many times during their show careers.
3rd Ciesielski’s Javal Love is the Drug
Res, McGrory’s Javal Same Old Scene
Wow another great class full of potential
Junior Bitch (2 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Coldwell’s Lucoru Playing with Fire 13-month-old white and orange bitch, another absolute cracker she is so well made, excellent front assembly with pronounced sternum, beautiful feminine lean head with strong muzzle and correct scissor bite, good ear set and pronounced occiput, eyes could darken a fraction but like the puppy dog she is a very light coloured bitch so this does not distract from her overall appeal. Pushed for top honours here today, just lost out as a little apprehensive moving in the challenge.
2nd Bruce’s Ilsolo Brezza di Angelo at Teazledown, 13-month-old brown roan bitch, another very nice type from this kennel, appealed for shape and size, coat of pleasing shade of brown and good texture, very pretty head, with a lovely soft expression. Good depth and spring of rib, strong over topline, good bone and feet and moving ok here today. Not as mature as first, promising youngster nonetheless
Postgraduate (3 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Kay’s Inostricani Mabel at Fossundale, very nice type, compact and square 19-month-old white and orange bitch, well-constructed front with a feminine head of good proportions, lean with pronounced occiput, good feet, still maturing and very much a baby at present. Free moving bitch with lovely side profile movement.
2nd Ciesielski’s Javal Gangsta Boo, rising two-year-old brown roan bitch, a little short in foreface, although not stripped out so that could have been throwing off the proportions. good front and rear angulation, a tad long in loin at this stage although forgivable as ‘puppy room’ in a younger bitch, good depth of chest for age, a little tucked up but I am sure with age she will drop into her body. A little unsettled on the move.
3rd, Hutt’s Karankawa Kashira
Limit Bitch (6 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Bovio’s Ilsolo River Island (JW), 4-year-old compact white and orange bitch. very typey from this kennel again. Lovely head on this girl, well proportioned, roof like, lean, with lots of detail. Eye of good size and colour giving a lovely Spinone expression, correct scissor bite, good topline and good depth and spring of rib, thick skin and good coat, well-muscled and shown in fine fettle, not giving her best in the challenge today.
2nd Coldwell’s Lucoru Perpetual Spring, 3-year-old white and orange bitch, not yet the finished article but she really is coming along nicely. Such a pretty bitch, very feminine with a lovely expression, strong neck, good depth of chest, like her kennel mate in junior she excels in front assembly. Ever so slightly longer in loin than first, but again a young bitch so I cannot overly penalise her for this. Correct topline which she held on the move, good coat of correct texture. Just a bit flat today but did enough to earn her placing here.
3rd Lawton’s Heather N Honey for Oaklaw
Res, Kay’s Annilann Floozie at Fossundale
VHC Burrow’s Quebaikei Royal Highlander
Open Bitch (6 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Anderson & Mayne’s Sh Ch Annilann Temptress del Michiamo (JW) 4-year-old white and orange bitch, such a beautiful head on this girl, correct proportions, lean with rooflike skull, median furrow, occiput, kind eye of lovely ochre colour giving a beautiful expression, she has it all there. Standing she is square and so balanced throughout, correct topline broad croup well-muscled thighs with good bend of stifle, good bone and feet and a coat of good texture, moving she was sound and true from all angles to take this competitive class. BCC a beautiful bitch unfortunately not as animated in the challenge for BOB
2nd Bovio’s Sh Ch Princess Pea, 3-year-old white and orange bitch, beautiful bitch viewed from all angles, head correct with a beautiful eye, giving desirable expression, stood she is balanced throughout, good depth to body, good width and spring of rib, strong over topline, decent bone and feet, very good thick skin and lovely harsh coat, a quality bitch with so much to like, she was unlucky to meet first on top form today
3rd Sandy’s Sh Ch Inostricani Sky’s the Limit at Milisimo
Res, Lawton’s Quebaikei Accossato for Oaklaw
VHC James’ Sh Ch Inostricani Fianna (ShCEX)
Veteran Bitch (2 Entries 0 Abs)
1st Sharp’s Sh Ch Affilato All About Me 7-year-old white and orange bitch belying her age and springing around like a puppy! This bitch is very much a favourite of mine, so it was a pleasure to go over her at last. There is no mistaking the quality in this bitch, well balanced, beautiful feminine head, strong bone and good feet, correct topline, good width of thigh, good bend of stifle, hocks well let down, I could go on. A lot of these attributes I see she passed on to her son who took the DCC & BOB here today. Returning from a maternity duty and still carrying a bit of that excess puppy weight, and a coat that could have been tidier cost her today in the challenge, however her attributes could not be denied, and I was pleased to award her the RCC & BVIB
2nd Burrows’ Quebaikei Russian Blizzard, 8-year-old white and orange bitch, sweet girl of lovely proportions, divergent head planes and kind eye and a lovely grouchy expression. Lots of bone and substance here, big feet, standing she is square, good topline and excellent belly line, well balanced both ends she possesses a lot of the characteristics that we are in danger of losing in some lines. An honest bitch, however, she wasn’t feeling it today moving a bit flat.
Special Beginners Bitch (1 Entry 0 Abs)
1st McGrory’s Javal Same Old Scene 10-month-old white and orange bitch, a sweet young bitch and a lovely developing partnership, lots of promise here. They made me smile. This young bitch has good oval bone, very good lay back of shoulder, and decent depth of chest for her age, good feet, coat coming in, her eyes are yet to darken, ears were a little enthusiastic! She went better in this class than her previous class, but she is so obviously still very much a raw baby learning her craft, continue to have fun and enjoy yourselves, it was a pleasure to see. BSB
Good Citizen Bitch (0 Entry 0 Abs)
