Bath Championship Show – Jack Russell Terriers

Many thanks to the Bath Committee for inviting me to judge and for their wonderful hospitality. Thank you to my stewards for looking after me so well, and to all who exhibited under me. Jack Russell Terriers have been my life's obsession for more than thirty years. I’m pleased to report that all exhibits had the correct scissor bite and were all spannable.

Puppy Dog (2,0)

1st Sabarish & Tate’s Jaeva Drummer Boy, a nicely sized nine-month-old rough-coated dog with a pleasing head and expression. I would prefer a smaller ear and darker eye. Well presented with a good coat, loose pelt, straight front and well-set tail. The handler has a tendency to overstretch his rear. Moved well. Also awarded BPIB.

2nd Fiddes’ Ashkari Jack Daniels, another nine-month-old rough-coated dog with a pleasing head. Preferred his dark eye and smaller ears, although he was reluctant to use them today. He lacks coat; however, he has a loose pelt. Lacked the condition and movement of the winner today.

Junior Dog (3,0)

1st Irving’s Twinan Silver Dollar, twelve-month-old. I love the cheekiness and fabulous attitude of this youngster. Dark eyes and a keen expression, excellent head, flat skull and uses his ears well. Has an excellent harsh coat, balanced angles front and rear, well-set tail, and moves with drive and purpose. Correctly sized; I could see him working all day long. Strongly considered for Best Dog, but I preferred the length of back of the Open Dog. RBD

2nd Bowden’s Twinan Good Golly to Chellowside, litter brother to first. Has many similar attributes to the winner, although a lighter eye. Moved well, however a touch close behind.

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st Fiddes’ Pentatty Elektra Fence, black and white rough-coated two-year-old dog. On the larger side for me and I would prefer him to carry more condition. Nice head, flat skull, dark eye and neat ears, good bite, coat of correct texture and spannable. Could be straighter in front; however, well-angulated rear, well-set tail and moved out very well with reach and drive.

2nd Tatum’s Calavey’s Shenanigans, two years old, smaller cast than the winner which is preferable. Nice head, good rough-coated coat, good hindquarters and well-set tail. Cheeky character who rather thinks he’s a hound with his nose glued to the floor absorbing the rabbity smells!

Limit Dog (3,0)

1st Rosell & Huseby’s Hunter Hawk The Savoy, fifteen-month-old broken-coated dog who presents a great overall picture. Wouldn’t want him any bigger. Strong, masculine head, fabulous neat ears and a dark eye. Being picky, I would prefer the muzzle a tad shorter. Straight in front with excellent hindquarters. Immaculately presented harsh coat. Level topline with a well-set tail. Moved with plenty of drive and purpose to win this strong class.

2nd Horwood’s Pentatty Baga Chipz, two-year-old rough-coated dog with the better head of the two. Neat ears, dark eyes, excellent coat and loose pelt. Straight front and strong hindquarters. Moved well, but I preferred the movement of the winner.

Open Dog (3,0)

Three fabulous dogs in this class, splitting hairs to choose between them!

1st Lane & Lane-Ridyard’s Kulawand White Diamond JW, two years old. A dog I’ve always admired and he looked fabulous today. I love his size. He possesses a strong masculine head, very neat ears and a dark eye. Good rough-coated coat and loose pelt, level topline, well-set tail, straight front with excellent hindquarters. Moved out very well and scored highly on his hind movement. Very pleased to award him Best Dog.

2nd Irving’s Twinan High Regard ShCEx, three-year-old rough-coated dog, another fabulous dog. Correct size, excellent head; being critical, I would like his ears a little smaller, although they are well set. Dark eye and a keen expression. Excellent coat, loose pelt, level topline, well-set tail and balanced front and rear. Moved out with purpose and drive. A very close call for first.

Special Beginners (5,0)

1st Mrs & Miss Moreno-Chamorro’s Calavey’s Polly Pocket, three-year-old rough-coated bitch. Lovely size, feminine expression, flat skull, neat ears and dark eye. Straight front and well-angulated hindquarters. Excellent coat with loose pelt. Moved out well. Pleased to see her take Special Beginner Group 4 later in the day.

2nd Robert’s Navigareamor Storm Isha, two-year-old rough-coated bitch. Similar qualities to first. Lovely dark eye and expression, neat ears, a good coat and loose pelt. A very happy lady who moved well.

Puppy Bitch (4,1)

1st Dennison’s Calavey’s First Lady at Beaverden, seven-month-old rough-coated bitch. Oh so pretty, beautiful head and expression, very neat ears and an expressive dark eye. I loved her cheeky, wriggly temperament. She has a straight front and lovely hindleg, moved well when settled. Very much considered for Best Puppy and I look forward to seeing her in the future.

2nd Smith, Lester & Tate’s Jaeva Step Out in Style Chandlimore, nine-month-old rough-coated bitch. Nice head, ears rather large, balanced front and rear assembly, good coat, loose pelt and moved well. Preferred the head of first.

Junior Bitch (2,1)

1st MacKay, MacDonald & Turner’s Locheil Party for Two, fourteen-month-old rough-coated bitch. Liked her size, good head, ears a little large and would prefer a darker eye. She has a lovely straight front and excellent hindleg. Excellent coat and loose pelt, level topline and well-set tail. Moved out well.

Post Graduate Bitch (7,0)

1st Hart’s Tiltser Cherry Blossom, two-year-old broken-coated bitch. I love the size of this girl. She has a beautiful head and expression, dark eye and neat ears. Well-balanced angles with a good tail set. Well-presented coat and moved out well to take the class.

2nd Klocankova & Pool’s Shadlisa Dream Girl, two-year-old broken-coated bitch. Similar attributes to first. Very well presented and handled, outmoved by the winner, but she is a very nice lady.

Limit Bitch (4,1)

1st Tate & Nagrecha’s Jaeva Front Row Seat to Chandlimore, eighteen-month-old rough-coated bitch. I liked her size, excellent head, dark eye and very neat ears with a keen but feminine expression. Well-presented coat and loose pelt. Straight in front with good hind assembly, although a tad short in body for my preference. Moved very well with drive and purpose. Pleased to award her Reserve Best Bitch.

2nd Lane & Lane-Ridyard’s Kulawand Wicked Waffle, four-year-old rough-coated bitch. Another lovely lady with an excellent head, neat ears and a dark eye, good coat and loose pelt. Front not quite as straight as the winner's. Fabulous hindquarters. I preferred her overall length, and she has a level topline with a well-set tail. Moved out well, though not quite with the keenness of the winner. A quality lady who just lost out to the winner today.

Open Bitch (2,0)

1st MacKay, MacDonald & Turner’s Locheil Snow Queen, rough-coated three-year-old bitch. A beautiful lady. She has a strong head yet retains her femininity. Neat ears, a dark eye and such a keen expression. She possessed the best coat I saw all day. Straight in front with excellent hindquarters, a well-set tail and held a level topline on the move. Moved very well with reach and drive. I loved her wicked keenness and was pleased to award her Best Bitch and Best of Breed.

2nd Lowe’s Wilsford’s Que Sera Sera, five-year-old rough-coated bitch. Smaller cast, she has a dark eye, although her ears are rather larger than I would like. Not quite as much overall for me as the winner, but she has a good coat and moved well. A nice girl who just lacked the presence and substance of the winner on the day.
