The Greyhound Club Championship Show – 19 July 2026

Thank you to the Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge the special award classes at your eightieth anniversary championship show. Thank you to the exhibitors who stayed to show their hounds after what had been a very busy Hound Show weekend. In my critiques I haven’t commented on dentition as all of these had a correct scissor bite.

Special Award Limit (6,2) 1. Cutter’s Ina’s Fashion Halo Over Chosovi (Imp Deu). This two year old brindle bitch won on her overall balance and movement. Good head with dark amber eyes and rose ears, giving a typical expression. Good front construction with ample depth of chest and good spring of rib, giving plenty of room for heart and lungs. Length in her ribbing, with a short, strong loin. Well angulation rear, with good bend of stifle, without being overdone. Neat, well-knuckled feet. Stood over enough ground without being overdone. Correct topline which she held on the move. Moved effortlessly with reach and drive.

2. Howlett’s Rubicon’s Don’t Stop Believing (Imp USA). This handsome three year old brindle and white male is built on a larger, slightly heavier boned mould than the winner. He presents a balanced outline. Balanced angulation front and rear, but I would prefer him to be slightly more curvy overall to complete the picture. Houndy head with lovely dark eyes and typical expression. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Straight front legs into neat feet. Presented in fit condition. Good topline but today sadly he flattened a little on the move. Moved effortlessly.

3. Spacey’s Inchdoney Memories Vlady Muscat at Hallimans (Imp Fra). 

Special Award Open (2,1) 1. Wilce Quinton’s Azravi’s Marked By The Sunrise at Kirjojax (Imp Nor). This upstanding four year old male presents a balanced outline when stacked. Handsome head and expression with dark amber eyes and typical expression. He has good, balanced front and rear angulation. Good depth of chest. Straight front legs with good slope to pasterns, into well-knuckled feet. Good width behind with well-muscled hind quarters. Good topline but tended to flatten a little when on the move. When settled he moved well. 

Special Award Racing/Lure Coursing This was a tough class to judge. Some had beautiful heads, but their construction and outline wasn’t ideal. Whilst others were constructed well with balanced outlines and correct toplines, but their heads weren’t as close to the breed standard. It was a close decision between first and second. (8,2) 1. Thompson’s Shockwave Sycuan. This handsome four year old blue male won on his outline, particularly his topline. Presented in good condition. Well-muscled without being overdone. Attractive head with dark enough eyes for his coat colour, but I would prefer slightly finer ears. Good depth of chest. Straight front into neat feet. Good width to his rear, giving power and drive on the move. Moved effortlessly holding his topline.

2. Ball’s Bathway Storm Raf. This two year old dog was presented very well. Jet black coat which showed off his muscle and condition. Good head and expression with neat ears. Balanced angulation front and rear. Good spring of rib. Straight front into neat feet. Moved with drive when settled.

3. Sawer’s Final Quattro.
