Super to be given the chance to judge this delightful breed and I was really pleased with my entry. When judging the any variety of dachshunds, I try and keep in mind what their original purpose was, so I always look for dogs who I feel are capable of working. Strength of back is of great importance; ‘dippy’ backs indicate lack of muscle and often too much length in loin, so not enough length of rib. These dogs should be small, but they do need to be strong. The upper arm should lie close to the ribs, and I found a few with loose fronts, with corresponding weak front movement. PD (1). Crow Middleton & Young’s Nagshall Tommy Fleetwood with Martinks - Just 9-months-old but he has the sweetest head of good breed shape for his age. Going over him, he is at this stage, a little long in loin for me and his hindquarters could be a tad stronger. He has enough depth of chest for a youngster; his mouth is correct; tail set and carriage are good. JD (2). - Neasby’s Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani - 13 -month-old with plenty to like already; he has a pleasant head; his topline is very good as is his height to length ratio. Tail set is super. His hindquarters need to strengthen a bit and at the moment, he tends to favour his right rear leg when moving. Overall, a promising young dog. RBD. 2. Crow Middleton & Young’s Nagshall Tommy Fleetwood with Martinks. PGD (2). Although only 2 in the class, 1 dog was a little long in body but sound and the other has good properties but not very sound on the move. 1. Fairchild’s Restinim Mr Pip - This young dog is 20-months-old and he has a super outline; his head is good and quite breed typical; his front assembly could be a little better but his rear angulation is good, supplying plenty of drive. 2. Spicer & Swanston’s Littl Fut Moon silver - Not many of this colour around so it is good to get the chance to go over one. Side on his outline is good and angulation fore and aft is good. He is perhaps a little large but overall balance is nice. OD (3). 1.Morrin & Barbi’s Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax - Typy 2-year-old with many breed-positive points; he is masculine without being overdone. His length to height ratio is good; ground clearance is good; strong neck; he carries his head well; eyes are dark; dentition is correct; ears are quite high set; rear angulation is good and movement in all directions is quite good although he does tend to raise his tail above his topline when he picks up speed. Overall, an ‘honest’ dog. BD. BOB. 2. Fairchild’s Restinim Mr Pip. 3. Spicer & Swanston’s Littl fut Moon silver. SB (3). Quite a nice class to judge; the dogs are quite typy; general angulation is good and movement ok. It was difficult to choose between my 1st and 2nd. 1. Church’s Chriskim’s Golden Ticket at Floxie. Nice bitch; she has a pleasant, feminine head; eyes of good colour and shape; correct dentition; broad ears of enough length; viewed side-on, her topline is good; sufficient angulation fore and aft. When moving, she has plenty of drive; feet are correctly shaped.BB. 2. Lander’s Songbirdie in the Thistle - Some similarities between this bitch and my class winner; her front angulation is good; back is reasonably level and as with my 1st place, she has breed appropriate feet. I prefer the shape of my class winner. 3. Sommers’s Allforus Iced Magic. PB (8,1). It was lovely to see such a large class of bitch puppies. It represents a positive future for the breed. However, type was very mixed as was soundness, but this can be forgiven at this young age. 1. Fairchild’s Findowrie Field of Dreams and Restinim - Very pretty and feminine young bitch. Although a puppy her outline is already good and her proportions are really nice; she has a fair amount of ground clearance. Her front angulation could be a little better and stronger on the move; rear action is good. I would like to get a chance to go over her again when she is a little older. 2. Pike & Carter’s Hanishan’s Royal Express to Breezelyn NAF - Viewed from the front, I find her a little bold in eye and her stop is a tad too prominent. Side-on, her outline is good, and front angulation is what I expect from this breed; front action is quite positive. I prefer the head of my class winner. 3.Dp, Bennett & Sturmey’s Foxfly Magnifique. - JB (2). 1. Kasprowicz’s Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello - Very feminine young bitch with the sweetest of expressions and good head proportions; topline is good when stacked and angulation fore and aft is good; her movement is a little difficult to assess but when she settles, she moves well for her age.
