I would like to say thank you to the committee of Southern Counties in asking me to accept the appointment in place of the scheduled judge. Mrs Bonnie Scougall, a well-established and experienced breeder and judge who had to step aside at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. Mrs Scougall is world famous for her long-term dedication to the breed under the Shannas affix of which the lines can be found in breeding’s of past and into present breeding programs due to the successful development of semen cryopreservation. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for attending and accepting my placings.

Veteran Dog 6

1. Sh Ch Hernwood Achilles at Ettrick JW VW (Mr A J & Mrs D A Harker)

9 year old who is just starting to show signs of grey in the muzzle but this does not detract from a balanced typical head. Good in shoulders and well bent stifles. Straight front. Lost his topline on the stack but was level on the move. In very good muscular condition but lacked drive from his short hocks. Presented in full coat.

2. Balnakeil Beinn Corradail of Blairbelles (Mrs N & Mrs A & Miss S Bell & Millar & Bell)

A favourite of mine who is top size for a male and has a very pleasing expression with a balanced head and low set ears. Front needs to be a little straighter. Strong neck and topline level when moving. Excellent bend of stifle and correct bone but would like a clearer tan. Coat of very good quality and texture. Moved with more drive and enthusiasm from short hocks than the winner but was a little close behind. Pushed winner hard.

1. Ludstar Quintale (Dr M Ivaldi) Very impressed with this young male of 14 months who possess a balanced head it being deep and slightly broader than muzzle and correct planes in foreface. Good in forechest for age. He is correct in topline, which is held both on the stack and in movement, ribs well sprung, has good lay back of shoulder and strong neck. Great bone, colour and jet black coat. Used his tail on the move and one of the few who really drove around the ring using his short hocks. Will follow his progress as he matures and delighted to award him the RCC.

2. Rhiwgerrig Caractacus by Melview (Mrs L Hall)

A kind expression from this 16 month old male but would like a shade darker eye. Well coated and of good texture. Strong neck although a little upright in shoulder but firm topline. Would like a little more hind angulation, moved ok.

1. Glenquin Hurricane Bryerdale (Ms A & Mr J Mappin & Newton)

Very mature young male, top size and in full coat. Would like a slightly shorter foreface but has dark eyes. Strong in bone as expected from his breeding, tight feet. Very good shoulder placement and correct topline held on the move. Has a tendency, as to be expect by a young outgoing Gordon, to run away with his handler giving the appearance of moving close behind but full of mischief so nice to see. 

2. Caradilis Fiach Dubh (Mrs S Gregg)

Very pleasing and balanced head on this young male showing brain room and no coarseness across the skull with low set ears. Good forehand, shoulders could be better but has a strong topline held on the move. Would prefer more hind angulation but he is very well muscled. In great overall condition with jet black coat but tan could be clearer. Tends to fly his tail a little.

1. Caradilis Sky Rocket JW (Ms M Morgan)

A dog I have done well for in the past and he has a very balanced head with the required stop and depth to muzzle coupled with dark eyes. Good in shoulders but not holding his topline on the stack. Good bend of stifles, well-muscled and moved true fore and aft using his correctly set on tail. Coat of good texture and in excellent condition but needs to carry more weight. 

2. Hernwood Wizard of Oz JW (Ms K Mccarthy)

Bigger dog and not in such good coat as the winner but in great muscular condition. A very appealing balanced head and expression. Good forehand and excellent lay back of shoulders, well boned and straight front. Moved true just lack drive.

1. Sh Ch Forester's Northern Hunter of Darkmoor with Gadieburn JW (Imp Deu) (Miss A Michalak) 

I remember speaking to his previous owner, the late Liz Ashton, when she talked about importing this dog and I watched him grow as a youngster until her untimely death when he was not seen due to waiting a new home. His new owner has done credit to her memory. Very impressive and all male. Such a balanced head with no coarseness, good stop and depth of muzzle. Excellent bone, straight front. Super strong neck into well placed shoulders. Very good spring of rib and length of loin. Presented in top class order, in hard muscular condition and in full coat of excellent quality although would like a slightly richer tan but this does not distract from his soundness. Well bent stifles correct tail set and short hocks enabling him to cover the ground with drive. Delighted to award him the CC and BOB

2. Ludstar Onassis (Mr M. Tiani)

Another super typical male from this kennel correct size, bone and balance. His head shows balance and no coarseness. Straight front and correct shoulders, good in ribs and loin. Solid topline held on the stack and in movement which is true driving from short hocks. Gleaming jet black coat, good colour and when he gets more coat will trouble the best am sure.

1. Sh Ch Glenquin Phoenix (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston)

A very sound and well-constructed bitch in top class order both is body condition and presentation. Head is feminine but I would like more work and deeper muzzle. Excellent length of neck into solid level topline and well bent stifles with excellent thigh muscles. Used her tail driving from short hocks moving true and with presence. RCC & BV

2. Sh Ch Bryerdale Qangeroo ShCEx (ai) (Ms A Mappin)

Pushed winner hard and unlucky to meet her is such gleaming condition. Another I would like just a tad more work in head but again very feminine. Low set ears and kind intelligent expression. Very well coated which was of good texture. Correct bone, straight front, level topline, well set on tail, short hocks which she used with enthusiasm to cover the ground.

Minor Puppy Bitch 1

1. Balnakeil Creag Nan Damh (Mr A M & Mrs S Green)

Just over 6 months with a pretty well-defined head. Jet black coat, good colour and well-proportioned body. On the stack rather straight in stifle but on the move she displayed better angulation, time is very much on her side. Well-muscled and enjoyed her time in the ring.

Puppy Bitch 2

1. Empyreal Desert Tempest at Glenmaurangi (Imp Can) (Ms T & Mrs T & Mrs A Watkins & Craft & Phillips)

A very striking outline, well coated and presented in top class order. To be critical I would like a shade more ruggedness to her. For me she is a little long in foreface and I would like a little more stop and bone but am sure she will develop further. Well laid back shoulders, for her age super spring of rib and topline coupled with excellent bend of stifle and well-muscled hindquarters. Tight feet and depth of chest for age as expected. Moved true using her short hocks to drive and lovely tail action to complete the picture. BP

1. Locksheath April in Paris (Mr K Whiting)

Nice size bitch with balanced proportions, nothing exaggerated. Head balanced with kind alert expression and dark eyes. Straight front, good forechest, spring of rib and length of loin. Held topline throughout. Well bent stifles, short hocks, moved true covering the ground using her correctly set on tail. Presented in lovely coat and condition.

2. Balnakeil Creag Rainich JW (Mr A M & Mrs S Green)

Bigger bitch with head planes showing correct depth flews and width over muzzle. Lovely clear colour and correct in bone. Straight front and level topline with tail well set. In good coat and texture. Sufficient bend of stifle which with her short hocks showed true movement.

3. Flaxheath Centrefold (Ms V L Lines)

1. Amscot Air Born via Kewstoke (Ms W D Smith)

Top size bitch who has a super clean outline. I would like a little more work in head. Well bodied with correct shoulders and good spring of rib. Level topline held on the move with well bent stifles. A little unsettled on the move.

2. Roydack The Duchess (Mrs A & Mr D C Jones)

Smaller mould than winner and not such a pleasing expression. She has a good spring of rib and is well coated. Was not settled in topline and would prefer better tail set. Well-muscled hindquarter, moved OK using her short tail.

1. Am Grchs/can Ch Fenwyck's Glamour (Mrs S. & Dr M. Patterson) 

This 5 year old bitch was presented in top class condition in body and coat, she flows from head to tail. Very feminine head which showed balance, true front but would like a little more forechest, good feet. Excellent shoulders with strong clean neck leading into rock solid topline. Ribs well sprung. Correct tail set, moved steadily and true using her short hocks. Just lacked the extra sparkle when moving compared to the BOB winner but delighted to award the BCC.
