BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG

A lovely way to spend a morning with this lovely breed with their wonderful temperaments.with a mind to their original purpose I looked for balanced dogs neither too heavy or lacking substance. The young classes contained a lot of promising exhibits who should mature well. I felt that too many of the exhibits lacked the length of leg to balance their length for my interpretation of balance and some croups were a little to flat. However I was impressed by the general soundness of the entry- there were only two who were not even on the move, and coat and colours and bone were very good i

My critiques are not as full as usual and I apologise for that.I knocked a glass o water over on my judging table and soaked a couple of pages were were then hardly legible. My apologies

My thanks to stewards Sharon Pinkerton and Ken Francis

1 WATSON Etterbern Gozan To Stepdashar 16 months quality dog who is at a teenage stage and needs time to fill out.Very good in head.I liked his balance and he is sound on the move holding a firm topline with correct carriage. Should develop into a top flight dog and was the junior bitch who pipped him for Best Junior today

2 EDGE Malindibeach Harlequin a lovely name for this beautifully coated and well marked dog with lovely temperament and kind expression.A good headed dog who is , like the winner at an adolescent stage a

1 AUSTEN Norburylou Karias Star I liked this dog for type and he has correct proportions and enough substance.Scores in his broad head, balanced muzzle and dark eyes.Went well to win this.

2 MEAKIN Angelrain Dark Prince typy and well built and with good bone and feet.He went well .i thought the winner more finished in body .He is handsome dog with very good head. Not a lot between these two

1 REID & GIVENS Fortonpark Senator At Mytrue not the biggest of dogs but he has good bone and feet and a good ribcage and croup so her carried his tail well.Beautifully presented coat.He moved well in rear but a touch wide in front. His head is masculine but a little too rounded in skull and a touch short in muzzle . Overall picture pleased me most here.

2 NEW Etterbern Forever First 3 year old I preferred his head to the winner as he is flatter in skull and better muzzle length. He is balanced but I preferred the rib and substance of the winner today.

OD (5, 2)

1 COOKE & STEVENS Tickbern Yardhand this 5 year old dog surprised me as he was no match in coat and presentation for the two other dogs in the class but on going over him I liked his construction and balance and above all his proprtions of height to length with good length of foreleg . He could drive a little more from rear.I liked his head and eye.He was not in good coat and it lacked condition. However for his qualities I rewarded him with the CC and BOB I hope his owners will get him into good form to gain the recognition he deserves.

2 MANIX & ENGLISH & MANIX Ch Waldershelf Bjorn To Be King JW ShCEx OSW a lovely dog of size and substance who looked a picture and was presented in superb form.He has a beautiful head and lovely eye and he carried himself round the ring with great style,.However I made him a little long in the body.Reserve CC

1 PURDY & SIMPSON Waldershelf Drama Queen 12 months old and full of quality and breed type.. She is a tall and well grown, with lovely legs and feet.. And she has what is missing in many; good length of foreleg. . She has a feminine typey head, a good topline and ribcage and she was shown in wonderful with excellent coats and colours. A little short in upper arm which shows in her front movements but when but when she fills out in chest that will improve which will help. .Carries herself well and has great temperament.I liked her a lot.Won the award for Best Special Beginner in breed and later won best special beginner in show ..I hope she and her young handler will have a good future.

1 WATSON Stepdashar Winters Wish BVIB nine-year-old and shown in hard condition. She carries her top line well and is sound at both ends. She has a feminine well balanced head with dark eyes,. I would prefer a little more length of leg,. Best veteran

MPB (7, 0) perhaps the best class of the day, as every puppy.had quality.A couple, were a little high at the rear and weaker In hind action but there were a very promising group. However the first two were little sisters who were very hard to separate

1 REID & GIVENS Fortonpark Hot Pink 7 months Old a beautiful puppy for tape and balance. And scored slightly in top line over her little sister,. She can come up on the leg a little but she but she has great type with lovely bone and feet, good rib cage excellent coat and markings. A lovely head and Good eyes, she went very well, and won Best Puppy in breed. The two of them should have rosy futures

2 HYDE Fortonpark Hot Secret she has a little more leg than her sister at the moment but she was not, quite so settled in top line,. Apart from that she has all of the same qualities and she too moved very well,. I’m sure they will have lots of duels on their way to the top

3 HAYWARD & HARRIS Kernow Winter Wonderland

PB (3, 0) three litter sisters and that was obvious by their similarity going round the ring. They are at a developmental stage and have small differences, one needing to strengthen behind, one a little high at the rear but all things that can change as they finish their growth. They are very similar and it will be interesting to see them in a couple of years.Today they were placed as I saw them on the day

1 SUTTON & DAVENPORT-WILLIS Ch Nelstephbern Dior By Design BCC what a picture. she made when she entered the ring!. Wonderful presentation of a great coat and lovely colours. She has great quality and wonderful type, from head to tail, and she went round the ring with perfect top line and tail carriage. Very accurate. up and down, and a beautiful head and expression. Won the CC over another beauty. For best of breed I had a great dilemma as the dog winner whilst lacking the coat and presentation of this girl, scored for me. on the day. for his proportions and leg length and that’s is what decided the best of breed award, accepted. graciously by this very sporting exhibitor

2 ENGLISH & GREEN Ch Waldershelf Queen's Inglish RBCC another beautiful bitch who is full of type and quality.Like the winner she has very little to criticise and went well but hard to match the presentation and ring presence of the winner.Very happy to see her and won the reserve CC.
