City Of Birmingham Canine Association

City of Birmingham Canine Association 4th September 2026 Hound and Toy day

The show was held at Stoneleigh Park Nr Coventry.

A lovely society to judge for, with a friendly, super-helpful committee and nothing too much trouble. I thoroughly enjoyed my day. The dogs behaved impeccably, and the atmosphere around the ring was friendly. I extend my thanks to the committee for inviting me and the exhibitors who brought their precious companions.

In general, coats were in good show condition; the usual disguise for lack of forechest, several dogs with long nails, and the most disturbing for me was mouths becoming a problem. That said, my principal winners were of excellent type, quality, and fit the breed standard for a Miniature Dachshund.

Dachshunds (Mini Wire)

SpB D 1. Carcorn Raphael’s Racer – Mr & Mrs Corner – This young man has a decent coat and pleasing hound head. Well-filled chest fitting well into his forelegs and ample depth to his ribs. His ribs extended sufficiently back to a muscular loin area. He had plenty of drive behind, although he needs to be moved a little slower to appreciate him on the move. BSB 2. Milkwood’s May Time at Peakybarkers – Miss & Mrs Stone – Slightly younger boy with plenty to offer. His coat is in super condition. Pleasing length of neck, plenty of forechest and strong legs to decent feet. Well-sprung ribs and muscular, slightly longer loin. On the move, he had a better reaching stride.

Jr. 1. Ch Jancop Sweet Child of Mine JW – Mrs Kilroy – this boy I have admired for some time. He has a lovely gentle hound head, conical in shape and equal proportions, almond eyes set obliquely. Excellent, strong white teeth and strong under jaw. Good length of neck into super lay of shoulders. Ample bone to clean, tidy feet with short nails; his chest is full, and ribs nicely sprung, reaching well back to a short loin. He has a full, rounded rump with well-angled hindquarters. His coat and muscle condition are in tip-top condition for the show ring. He strode out with a free-flowing stride and drive from his hind. He had purpose on the move, parallel and sound. RCC 2. Bimini Night Sky with Achidax – Mrs West & Mrs Sextan – Well-turned-out young man, slightly bigger. Pleasing masculine head with a dark, almond-shaped eye; plenty of furnishings. Lost out on forechest today, nicely ribbed back. His coat was crisp and harsh with well-trimmed feet.

PG. Bimini Night Sky with Achidax – Mrs West & Mrs Sextan – As above. 2. Milkwood’s May Bud – Miss Peak – Masculine head and expression, although his eye is a little round. Strong muzzle and teeth. Nice length of neck and firm topline. Ample bone throughout and nicely muscled. He moved out at a steady pace.

LD. 1. Helydon Xtra Xpecial JW – this boy has been so well schooled and knew his job today. Masculine head with a bold, defiant, intelligent expression. His skull was flat, with ears set high and held close to his cheeks. His eyes were almond in shape and dark, contributing to his expression. Muscular neck with slight arch running into his shoulders. Well-filled forechest oval with pronounced keel fitting neatly between forelegs. Ample bone and enough spring to pasterns finished with tight broad feet and short nails. Level topline and good depth of ribs reaching well back, his hind angulation set at right angles to each other and strong pliant muscles. On the move, he reached out and drove from behind in a rhythmic action, straight and parallel. DCC. 2. Ridanflight Gilcoru Gino – Mr Rose – Dogs from this kennel are always turned out with a super well-trimmed coat and a credit to their owner. Lovely chest full and oval well ribbed back to a short muscular loin. I’d prefer a little more spring to his ribs. Strong level topline and carried his tail as an extension of his spine.

OD. 1. Rozella Fools Gold – Mrs Mullen – A much overlooked boy. Although we don’t have scales anymore, I dare say this boy was well within the breed guide for weight 11lb. His masculine head with dark almond-shaped eyes, long muscular neck into firmly set shoulders. Well-developed forechest, full and oval. Plenty of return to upper arm and strong bone to forelegs, finished with tight broad feet and short nails. He had a spring to his ribs, which reached well back to his muscular short loin and well-rounded rump. On the move he excelled in this class, although his coat needed attention. 2. Drakesleat Gud News – Mrs Thorn Andrews – Correct size boy with a masculine head and dark eyes. Length of neck with slight arch. Ample depth of chest and nicely ribbed back to short loin. Muscular throughout and pleasing coat. Compact.

SpB 1. Farnmeisret Fauna – Miss Proctor - Typical hound head, conical in shape, dark almond-shaped eyes. Sufficient length of neck and enough bone to straight legs. Oval chest nicely filled, nicely sprung ribs, muscular loin; her tuck-up was a little sharp. Her hind legs had plenty of width with round, pliant muscles. She moved well, although not as confident.

VB. 1. Ch Archidax Dark Phoenix – Mrs West – this lovely, very breed-typical girl stole Best of Breed as she entered the ring. For her 7yrs she is in super show condition, muscular and feminine. Her red coat was harsh to the touch, with not a hair out of place. She knows her place, lively and courageous. Beautiful dark almond-shaped eyes, just enough stop, high-set ears framing her face, closely fitting lips and full dentition. Enough arch to her neck, clean and muscular, running into shoulders. Her topline was muscular with a short loin, and her tail was an extension of her topline carried out. On the move, she was free-flowing with a reaching stride and drive from the muscular hind.BB BoB 2. Ch Rozelle Kamira’s Year – Mrs Mullen & Mr Rose – This girl would easily hold her own in open class. Lovely wild boar girl in harsh jacket. Pleasing feminine head with high set ears listening to everything going on, mobile. Ample length of neck into shoulders, firm topline, carrying her tail out. Strong breastbone, and filled chest oval in shape. Slightly shorter in overall length. She moved with power, full of confidence.

PB.1. Helydon Yer Yolo JW – Misses Kirkwood-Emery - This excited young lady was not with her usual handler, really on her toes and having fun. Very typical of the breed: courageous to the point of rashness. Her coat was in super harsh condition, with ample dense undercoat. This girl would work out in all weathers and not be wet or cold when she got home. Super head feminine expression, strong jaws, beautiful powerful teeth with a full scissor bite. Her neck was long and muscular, flowing into her shoulders. Strong bones in her legs and finished with round, broad, well-padded feet. Her chest was full and oval with ribs that reached well back to a short muscular loin. She had width to her thighs, and a round muscular rump. She excelled on the move with a reaching and powerful drive. This girl had bags of potential and attitude. BPB, BP 2. Ceffylmor Stoned Love of Buttibach – Ms Sieminski – Pleasing size red girl with some very good points. Her coat was harsh and nicely trimmed. Firm topline, enough spring to ribs and well-angled hind legs with a round full rump. On the move, she was positive and confident.

Jr 1. Helydon Yer Yolo JW – Misses Kirkwood-Emery – Notes as puppy. 2. Rozamie Reflection of Rosencrantz – Mrs Rose – A very unassuming Chocolate girl who knew her job in hand. She has a dark eye, almond-shaped conical head, and muscular neck. Her shoulders are well laid and great return of upper arm. Her ribs are well sprung and reaching well back to her short loin. Her coat was well turned out and pleasing, with round, broad, tight feet. She moved very well, free with a long stride. A good show against strong competition. Well done. 3rd Rozelle Buffalo Gal – Mrs Mullen.

PG 1. Milkwoods May Ze – Miss Peek – Red girl with a pleasing feminine head, almond bright eyes, equal length of muzzle to head proportions with sufficient width to skull. Nicely arched neck into shoulders, decent lay to shoulders and straight legs to broad round feet. Well-filled oval chest and enough ground clearance. Short muscular loin and well-angulated hind legs. She had a clean underline and moved well with purpose. 2. Farnmeisret Fauna – Miss Proctor - Typical hound head, conical in shape, dark almond-shaped eyes. Satisfactory length of neck and enough bone to straight legs. Oval chest nicely filled, nicely sprung ribs, muscular loin; her tuck-up was a little sharp. Her hind legs had plenty of width with round pliant muscles. She moved well, although not as confident.

LB.1. Moonshe Bee Lightful – Mr Crossman & Mrs Kennedy – Pleasing feminine hound head, almond-shaped eyes dark and bright, high-set ears of moderate length, strong jaws and teeth. Length of neck, muscular, with slight arch flowing into firm topline. Her chest was full and oval, showing keel, ribs reaching well back, and underline clean and gradually rising. On the move, her hind legs were strong with rounded muscles and finished with closely knitted toes. 2. Ridanflight Renata – Mr Rose - A super red girl in beautiful coat and show condition; she pushed hard today and could change places. Her forechest was full and oval well laid shoulders with long broad blades. Legs that covered the deepest part of her ribs, close-fitting elbows, and suitable ground clearance. She moved with confidence. 3. Dajean Surely a Vision – Sieminski.

O. 1. Ch Dreaksleat See No Evil – Mrs Thorn Andrews – This young lady demanded attention as she powered around the ring, leaving others to catch up. Her ribs were well sprung and reached well back to her short muscular loin, rounded rump with pliant strong muscles. Her forefeet were broad, round with plenty of padding. Her hind feet were slightly smaller round and tightly knitted toes. She had necessary ground clearance to do a job of work without injury. RCC 2. Rozelle Rosalie at Janacop – Mrs Kilroy – A lovely compact girl in super coat condition and muscle. She gives her all in the ring. She has the sweetest of feminine heads with a kind soft expression. Nice reach of neck that flowed into her broad shoulders. Firm topline held on the move. Her tail held out like an extension of her spine. Her chest was full and oval with prominent breast bone. Her forelegs covered the deepest part of her chest with nice tight elbows, gently rising underline to short, strong muscular loin and lovely round hammy rump. 3. Ch Bimini Moonlight – Mrs Jones
