The Beagle Association Open Show  5th July 2026, Ashfordby Acres

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge my first breed club show. I was thrilled with the depth of quality of the hounds entered. Thank you all for taking the time to give me an entry. Also thanks to my steward, Neil Stevens, who singly handedly kept things running smoothly and on time. Although we were blessed with fabulous weather, as the afternoon wore on and the temperature increased, I was aware that it became more difficult for the hounds, and I tried to minimise the amount of time they were spending in full sun. Thank you all for your patience and to your dogs for putting up with it all. I was super pleased with my final line up, all of whom I believe thoroughly deserved their placings.  

Dogs

Minor Puppy Dog(1,0) 1st Kilgour’s Gempeni Heartbeat of Kilmorbeag BPD - This 11 month old dog of slightly larger mould was presented in lovely condition showing a nicely balanced masculine head and good reach of neck. Level topline shown best on the move. Good bone throughout. Particularly liked his balanced angulation which complemented his sound movement.

Junior Dog (2,0) 1st Daniels Michelroy Earl Grey - 14 month old compact tricoloured dog with nice head and soft expressive eyes of correct colour. Well balanced in profile. Good deep forechest reaching well to elbows. Super free movement both fore and aft with particularly powerful drive from rear. Presented in good condition. 2nd LA & PJ Havard’s Annavah Top Notch - 15 months tri. Rather unsettled on the table today giving his owner a run for her money. Lovely masculine head. Balanced angulation and well boned throughout. Lovely deep chest, level topline. Came into his own on the move being sound both out and back. Presented in super condition. Close call to 1.

Novice Dog (2,0) 1st Snells Redcap Pulp Fiction - 2 year old broken tri. Lovely strong head, good dentition and ample leathers. Slightly light eye for me. Well angulated and well off for muscle. Good shoulder placement leading to well sprung ribs. Nicely balanced on the move, running true out and back. Held a good level topline. 2nd Smiths Poppyville Forever Dancing to Sanbryvale’s - 10 month old tan and white dog. Good masculine head with skull and muzzle of equal length. Good length of neck. Level topline. Slightly narrow in front although levelled out on the move. Good hind angulation and nice bend of stifle.

Limit Dog (2,0) 1st Woodhouse’s Fallowfield Rhett with Birybarn - Lovely 3 year old tri shown in super condition. Well balanced masculine head, correct dentition and eye colour. Nicely arched neck leading into super lay of shoulder and good front assembly. Tight feet. Level topline which he kept on the move. Powerful drive from his rear on the move. True movement out and back. 2nd Websters Rossut Vizier for Houndscoast - 4 year old tan and white with lovely masculine head without being overdone. Strong neck into well laid shoulders. Slightly heavier build but nicely balanced overall with good angulation front and rear. Super depth of chest. Slightly short in loin. Nice strong pasterns. Showed powerful drive on the move. 

Open Dog (6,1) 1st Forgebanks Santiago JW BD, BOS - Eye catching well balanced 3 year old T&W dog shown in great condition. Lovely masculine head in correct proportions. Good eye colour and shape with soft expression. Excellent lay back of shoulder running into straight well boned forelegs, strong pasterns and nice tight feet. Level topline and good depth of chest. Moved soundly both out and back showing tremendous reach and drive. So much to like about this dog. 2nd Jones’s Clairdale Fusilier - Nice compact 4 year old tri dog. Slighter mould than 1 but still balanced in profile with no coarseness. Good masculine head with correct ear set and a lovely dark eye. Strong neck into nicely constructed front with good amount of forechest. Strong topline and lovely movement driven from his strong hind quarters. Well-handled and presented.

Veteran Dog (2,0) 1st Jones’s Ch Newlin Preston to Clairdale RBD, BVD AND BVIS - Lovely 8 year old tri boy. Well-proportioned head with a beautiful eye and expression. Good length of neck and shoulder placement into straight legs and nice tight feet. Excellent topline, well set on tail and strong rear quarters. Excellent muscle tone and condition throughout. Sound balanced movement out and back with super reach and strong drive covering the ground freely. Free stacked to show natural balance perfectly. 2nd MA & PR Henningsson-Dundas Ch Julemark Luther - 7 year old tricolour boy. Of slightly larger mould but not exaggerated in any way showing good proportions throughout. Nice head with a soft melting expression, good eye colour and correct ear set. Excellent lay of shoulder and correct amount of forechest. Level topline which he held at all times. Lovely flowing balanced movement.

Special Vintage Dog (1,0) 1st AM Phillips& AP Keyte Lanesend Segenhoe JW Sh.cm - Such a happy chappy and hard to believe he is rising 13 years old. Shown in excellent condition with great muscle tone and strength. Smaller mould but perfectly balanced. Came into his own on the move striding out with the energy and confidence of one half his age. Forever the showman.

Minor Puppy Bitch (3,0) 1st MW & JS Goldberg’s Mackhovie Astraea at Molesend - 6 month old tan and white. Nice feminine head with good mouth, dark eyes and soft expression. Nicely curved neck and well laid shoulders. Forelegs running straight under deep chest. Good bone and tight feet. Lovely topline. Sound movement. Overall a well-balanced puppy with a bright future ahead. 2nd R & D Mead’s Rosroden’s Poll Position - Promising 6 month old with a nicely proportioned head, correct mouth and melting expression. Good neck into correct shoulder placement. Lay back of ribs good, strong loin and pleasing well muscled hind quarters. Sound movement out and back.

Puppy Bitch(3,0) 1st LA & PJ Havard’s Annavah Crème Caramel BPB, BP RBB AND RBIS - Stunning 11 month old tan and white shown in super condition. Slightly smaller mould but still full of class and in all the correct proportions. Well balanced head and nice dark eye. Mild melting expression to die for. Ample length of neck with good shoulder placement. Excellent bone, feet and tailset. Level topline held as she moved covering the ground freely with great reach and drive. Full of promise for great things ahead. 2nd Taylor’s Deconfield Melody - 11 month old of slightly larger mould. Lovely balanced bitch both in profile and on the move . Well-proportioned head with right eye colour and nicely domed skull. Long arched neck leading to correct shoulder placement. Good lay back of ribs with well muscled rear quarters allowing for great drive on the move. 

Junior Bitch (2,0) Arden’s Madika Shine On JW BB AND BIS - One I have admired since she came out as a puppy and was really pleased I had the opportunity to go over her. She did not disappoint. Presented in wonderful condition and shown to her best. Pretty balanced feminine head with a melting kind eye. Good dentition. Nicely curved neck into correct shoulders and straight well boned legs. Lovely depth of chest. Excellent rib placement coming well back to strong loin. Well muscled rear quarters, without being overdone allowing powerful drive on the move. Nicely balanced all over and worthy Best in Show. She has a super future ahead of her. 2nd MW & JS Goldberg Molesend Linnet - This 17 month old tan and white showed super balanced proportions and a lovely outline. Beautiful feminine head with soft expression, good ear set and correct eye colour. Strong well arched neck and lovely deep chest. Well ribbed. Good bone and well off for muscle. Moved purposefully and freely both out and back. 

Novice Bitch (2,1) Taylor’s Deconfield Melody – 2nd Puppy Bitch

Post Graduate Bitch (5,1) 1st MW & JS Goldberg’s Molesent Linnet – 2nd Junior Bitch. 2nd Hunt’s Bondlea Cherished - Slightly longer cast tri bitch. Well proportioned head showing no exaggerations. Kind expression. Good length of neck and shoulder placement. Well let down forechest. Strong level topline which was held on the move. Demonstrated good reach and drive, covering the ground in a purposeful way. Nice balanced outline. Shown in good condition. 

Limit Bitch (6,2) 1st Scarlett’s Vanitonia Enchanted over Michelroy JW - Well presented 2 year old tri, shown in excellent condition. Strong balanced head showing lots of type. Nice length of leathers. Good stop and correctly domed skull. Well arched neck leading to correct shoulders allowing for lovely free movement. Well sprung ribs, nice tight feet, good tail set. Powerful well-muscled rear assembly. Overall showed a lovely balanced outline both in profile and on the move. 2nd PJ & DV Banks Serenaker Margarita at Forgebanks. - This girl gave her handler a run for her money today. Nice 3 year old who was unfortunately very fidgety on the table. That said there is much to like about her. Nicely balanced head. Ample forechest which was let down well below her elbows. Good lay of ribs, strong loin and well muscled rear quarters. Settled down somewhat on the move showing balance and good drive.

Open Bitch (6,1) 1st PJ & DV Banks Forgebanks Shantung JW - Beautiful balanced tricolour bitch who immediately caught my eye in the line up. Good balanced head, nicely angulated both front and rear. Strong level topline which she held on the move. Well ribbed and short coupled. Strong pasterns, straight parallel hocks and nice turn of stifle. Purposeful and flowing movement showing both reach and drive from her strong back quarters. 2nd Dean’s Ch Gempeni Cornflower Shcex - Super open tri bitch with plenty of class and type. Correct proportions throughout. Feminine head with good mouth, nicely domed skull and strong arched neck. Well-constructed front, deep chest, excellent rib and good length of loin. Super topline. Strong hind quarters with well set tail carried correctly. Lovely balanced movement covering the ground with ease. 

Veteran Bitch (5,3) 1st Scarlett’s Michelroy Pimpernell with Houndscoat JW VW BVB - Very sprightly 8 year old tan and white. Superbly turned out and shown to best advantage as always. Good feminine head with gentle expression. Lovely profile demonstrating correct balanced angulation both front and rear. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders. Nice depth of chest and well laid back ribs. Good length of body and correct tailset. Lovely flowing movement. 2nd PJ & DV Banks Forgebanks Rosanka - Another 8 year old who also looks great for her age. Well-muscled and balanced both in profile and on the move. Nice head and strong topline. Good angulation both front and rear. Well ribbed. Overall nicely balanced on the move.

Special Vintage Bitch (1,0) 1st Kimber’s Coachbarn Celeste - Lovely 10 year old lady who has learned the ropes over her years of being a veteran. Still super alert showing her experience of years in the ring. Well balanced proportions overall and shown in good condition. Good movement both out and back.

Special Beginners (2,1) 1st Leader’s Davicard Artemis - Lovely puppy who was placed 3rd in a very strong puppy class. Quality feminine head with correct proportions. Good breadth of chest and nicely straight in front. Good front and rear angulation and super bone. Straight topline. Moved freely both out and back
