My heartfelt thanks go to the Officers & Committee of the Border Union Agricultural Society for kindly inviting me to judge both sexes at my first C.C. appointment and for their kind hospitality. It was an honour and a privilege to judge and for me an occasion that I shall never forget. I was truly humbled by the wonderful entry and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

My thanks go to Claire & Paul, my ring stewards, who did an excellent job of keeping everything in our ring running smoothly throughout the day.

I would like to thank each and every exhibitor for their entries and taking the time to travel and prepare their dogs for the show and accepting my decisions in such a sporting manner. Thankfully the weather was lovely and of course the venue as always was excellent.

In terms of health, I did not witness any breathing issues, there were a number of exhibits with unexpected dentition faults in terms of untidy bites and a few canines which were badly placed, in my view this should not be overlooked and would have cost placings. There were a few exhibits where I would have preferred better pigmentation but on the whole I was really pleased to see that there was a good blend of bull and terrier on show and I did not need to search for substance or quality, I was also happy with the overall temperament and condition of exhibits, there was plenty of beautiful examples from which to select my winners.

I was delighted with my main winners and I was thrilled to hear that my winning bitch got her third and crowning CC on the day with applause to match and huge congratulations to my Best of Breed, a wonderful ambassador for the breed, who went on that day to be awarded Terrier Group 2.

1st - Simpstaff The Pretender (Mr P & Mrs A Simpson)

Red & White dog, with a lovely clean head and good bite, presents with the loveliest dark, round eye and expression, ample bone, good strong, straight front with ample width and well established hind quarters for his age, good bend of stifle. Enough spring of rib, well balanced for his age. He held a level top line and moved well enough for one so young. I look forward to following his progress.

2nd - Dilirystaff Bulleye (Miss D Heron)

Another lovely young puppy with a lot of virtues, white with brindle patch, plenty of substance, has such a lovely head shape with a dark eye, compact body, well sprung rib, level top line & nice bend of stifle. He moved ok and this will improve as he tightens up and matures. Overall I preferred the expression of 1.

1st - Sharmara Fidelius Charm (Mr K, Mr C & Mr C Davis & Davis) Best Puppy Dog & Res CC

Brindle & white, flashy markings, really caught my eye with his strong well shaped head and lovely expression, plenty of underjaw, dark eye, neat ears, good bite, plenty of fore chest, compact in body, short coupled, enough rib, quality coat in tip top condition, level top line held on the move, good tail carriage, nicely angulated hindquarters, he moved very well both ways. Handled well and behaved impeccably. Pleasing overall proportions. This smashing example surely has a great future in the breed. I was pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog and RDCC.

2nd - Makvolka Haggisfang (Miss K & Mr R Campbell & Morrison)

Brindle, nice clean head, slightly longer in muzzle than one, good stop, dark eye, good bite, neat ears, enough width of front, good top line, moved ok, was unlucky to come up against 1 today. I’m sure he will mature into a lovely adult.

1st Samtan The Raging Bull (Mr K & Mr S Tucker)

Red & white dog with dark muzzle, a dog with ring presence, well off for bone and height, good head shape, neat enough ear, nice dark eye. Well balanced outline, good spring of rib and level top line. Good strength of hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Moved well once settled. A lot to like. I wish him and his young handler much success.

2nd Hammystaff Tainted Love (Mrs H C Nolan)

Red & white dog with plenty of strength all over, very strong head and nice expression, dark eye, neat ears, ample width in front, level top line, plenty of rib and compact in body. Moved ok when he settled. Lots to like but overall I preferred the height and length of muzzle on 1

Red & White with dark mask, Beautifully balanced boy, nice head shape and expression, dark eye, neat ears, good bite. Nice depth of fore chest and good tuck up, ample bone, level top line, well-muscled hind quarters, feet ok. Moved well back and forth. Shown in great condition. This boy can really command the ring and I so admired him from the moment he entered but he seemed to be playing up for his handler today and this unfortunately cost him from further consideration in the final line up. I am sure he will have a great show career.

2nd Geordiestoon Defiant Boy for Weorc JW (Mr M & Miss K Walsh & Lloyd)

Brindle & White, another lovely example, nice markings with an appealing head, dark eye, neat ears, nice length of muzzle, clean foreface. Well enough boned and plenty width to a nice straight front. Good spring of rib, nicely tucked up with a level top line standing and on the move, strong hindquarters, good tail carriage, moved back and forth well, Shown in excellent condition. A credit to his owner and a very stylish dog with great appeal. Unfortunate to come up against 1

Held his top line on the move and moved ok once settled in both directions.

Black brindle, nice outline, dark eye, neat ear, enough spring of rib, a little longer set than 1, moved well enough, preferred the ring presence and overall condition of 1.

Black brindle & white, this top size boy draws your eye with his lovely markings and such a punishing headpiece, dark eye, neat ear, good bite, shown in lovely condition. Well off for bone with a good quality front and rear, moved well. A very handsome dog, who on closer look doesn’t disappoint.

2nd Coolio in Gangsters Paradise von Der Rennstadt (Imp Deu) (Ms Sl Seaton)

Black brindle, another lovely example, very nice head shape with dark eye, plenty of underjaw, good deep brisket, compact body with well sprung rib, good top line, overall a nicely balanced dog, moved out well. It would be remiss of me not to mention his adorable personality.

A powerful black brindle with a lovely head piece, well defined cheek muscles, dark eye, correct bite and depth of underjaw, neat ears. He has plenty of width to his front and a deep brisket, level top line and short coupled and muscular throughout. He moved out well. Being from a kennel local to me I probably held him under a little extra scrutiny but I certainly wasn’t disappointed and I appreciated his merits enough to award him first in a very strong class.

2nd Jayneze Doctor Jimmy at Modlife (Mr P & Mrs J Marsden)

Black brindle & white dog, a top size boy who although a different type to 1, he was very stylish and on his toes throughout, presents with a clean outline, well defined head, dark eye, neat ear, good length of muzzle, enough width and depth of front, good spring of rib, pleasing side on profile, moved parallel both directions and is a very nicely balanced dog overall.

Here is a boy I had been aware had done a lot of winning in our breed. However, for me each and every dog that entered the ring that day came in on a blank canvas, nonetheless in my opinion, he is honestly such an eye catching dog from a distance and I was delighted to find that on closer inspection he met all my expectations of the Staffordshire bull terrier I hoped to find during my first CC appointment. He was in gleaming condition, he has the most beautiful head, dark eye that never left me, neat ear, gorgeous expression close-up and far away, plenty of substance, short, compact body, plenty of width and depth, moved well both ways. I adored him from every angle. I was so pleased to award him Dog CC & Best of Breed and delighted he went on to take Terrier Gp2. Thank you for the opportunity to judge this stunning boy.

2nd Ch Niatona Wreck It Ralph (Mr G & Mrs S Reynolds)

Red & white with dark mask. Another fine example of the breed, plenty of strength and substance here too and a lovely head shape and expression, neat ears, excellent pigmentation. He has good width and depth to his correct front, well-muscled throughout. Excellent depth of brisket and level top line. He has a lovely clean outline, slightly longer than 1 but balanced nonetheless. Shown in very good condition, moved and handled well.

Black Brindle & white, 8yr old, although he stood alone in his class he exhibited many great features of the breed with the loveliest of temperament. With his dark eye, neat ear, lovely expression he has a lot to admire. He has plenty of width and depth to his front, short coupled with a top line that never faltered, moved freely and well both ways. Shown in excellent condition.

Black brindle & white, 8 mths, nicely developing head shape, good stop, plenty of muzzle length, dark eye, neat ear, balanced puppy overall, good width and depth of front at this age, short coupled, shown in lovely condition, took it all in her stride. Her confidence in the ring today won her the class.

2nd Brockmar Made You Look at Bullred (Mr R & Mrs J Day)

Black brindle and white puppy, 7mths, a very appealing young girl who oozed quality, dark eye, neat ear, lovely head shape with good amount of stop giving a very appealing expression, plenty of substance, compact body with a good bend of stifle and nice angulations for one so young. Unfortunately it was all a little bit much for her in the ring today and she didn’t quite manage to show the best of herself. I look forward to following her progress.

Black brindle, 11 months old, this stylish puppy drew my attention quickly on entering the ring with her striking looks and ring presence. She has a beautifully chiselled head piece, good cheek muscles, dark eye, neat ear, correct bite, plenty of substance and width to a naturally straight front with plenty of lay back, good depth of brisket and short coupled with a good top line and lovely strong hind quarters moved well, adored her expression, she was in excellent condition. I was delighted to award her Best Puppy Bitch, BPIB & BRCC and will follow her career with interest. I wish you much future success.

White & Red, another really lovely girl who has a stunning expression from a beautiful head shape which drew my attention early on, she has plenty of depth and underjaw, neat ears, dark eye, a strong, balanced body with plenty of width to her front and depth to brisket. Good hindquarters. Tidy feet and good spring of rib. An awful lot to appreciate but she enjoyed her day a little too much and just didn’t settle enough, on another day she could have had further consideration. Wishing her much future success.

She has enough width to her front and depth, good shoulder placement leading into a compact and balanced body. Shown in lovely condition. She moved well both ways. A lot to like.

2nd Marstaff I Believe at Bullred (Mr R & Mrs J Day)

Red & white, with a strong head piece and short muzzle, round dark eye, wide open nostrils, neat ear and strong underjaw, her features combine to give a powerful expression. She is well off for height, compact enough in body with enough spring of rib, plenty of substance throughout. She moved well both directions. Just lacked the ring presence of 1

1st Ellchansha Cast A Spell (Mrs A Johnson) Bitch CC & Res BOB

Black brindle & white, this girl absolutely blew me away from she entered the ring and did not disappoint when I got the opportunity to go over her more closely – she is so well named! She has the most beautiful expression without exaggeration, her head is so sculpted from her dark eye, distinct stop, open nostrils, strength of underjaw and clean finish overall, I thought she was an amazing example of our breed. She is so well balanced throughout, enough substance, width of front and depth of brisket, well sprung rib, short coupled, great hindquarters and the loveliest of shiny, short, quality coat. She moved back and forth soundly and had a ring presence second to none. I was delighted to have the opportunity to judge her and was pleased to go on to award her Bitch CC & RBOB and thrilled to hear afterwards that this was her 3rd & crowning CC – Well deserved & congratulations

2nd - Stormnoir Black Dahlia (Miss R Paterson)

Black brindle, another lovely bitch with a great expression, a good quality head with definition and tidy ears. She had a good straight front with ample width and depth, a good spring of rib and was close coupled with a good covering giving a lovely clean outline, she held a good top line with strong hindquarters and good bend of stifle. She moved out well and was unlucky to come up against 1 today.

White, a really lovely bitch that demands attention, she has a stunning head with plenty of strength, a dark eye, tidy ears, strong muzzle and good strength to underjaw. She is well off for height and bone, well bodied, with a good spring of rib, short coupled and presents a lovely outline. She moved out well with strong hind quarters and was a close contender right up to the very last. Good luck for the future.

2nd Ellchansha Put A Spell On You (Mrs A Johnson)

Black brindle, it is not difficult to see the connection to my limit class winner, the type and quality from this kennel definitely shone through for me. Another stunning bitch with a beautiful head shape, neat ears, dark eye and clean finish. She has plenty of substance, presents a lovely outline with her spring of rib and compact body, moved well both directions.

Black brindle, 8yrs, who I later found out to be the dam to my Bitch CC winner, she was in stunning condition for her age with a lively attitude, she has so many lovely attributes, she has such quality with her beautiful head, dark eye and clean outline, she is well boned, has plenty depth to her body and is so well constructed throughout. She moved well and I was pleased to award her Best Veteran

2nd Kargonstaffs Kokoro VW (Mr P & Mrs J Moffat)

Black brindle & white, a lovely 9yr old girl, with a great head shape, short muzzle starting to show a little frosting, nice expression, dark eye, good tight coat, she is well off for bone and doesn’t put a foot out of place for her handler. Compact and nicely constructed, she views well from all angles. In great condition.
