Breed: Borzoi

Northern Borzoi Association Ch. Show April 5th 2026

It was a huge honour to have been invited to judge at the clubs 50th Championship Show. I have always had a special bond with this society as my late husband was one of the founder members and really was there from the start.

I was pleased with the super venue which had everything that dog exhibitors need, lovely facilities and a huge ring which really showed the exhibits at their best and their worst!

There was an entry of 48 with very few absentees, I thank the exhibitors for a great atmosphere, sporting attitudes and all the committee who really pulled out all the stops to make it a memorable day for all.

I was very happy with my winners, bitches as usual were better overall in quality and style but there were some very promising youngsters in both sexes which is always good to see for the future of the breed. Always a pleasure when one judges to see youngsters you have placed well in the past appear as adults and interesting to see if your predictions and hopes for their future development and maturity has come true.

DOGS

Veteran Dog: 2

1st: Raczka`s JAMARQUI ALCHEMY ARGENT ShCEx VW

7 yrs white/fawn. Masculine throughout, quite compact compared to 2nd,well bodied with excellent overall balance, nice dark eye would like a slightly more elegant head but has adequate length of neck into well laid shoulders, correct feet and pasterns, deep brisket with nice rise over the loin. Good front and hind co-ordination and sound throughout. A very nice dog who has got better with age, just out-moved by the very classy Veteran Bitch in the final challenge for Best Veteran. Res BVIS.

2nd: Harvey & Jonsson`s CH. LYNX GOGIBUS PEARL {IMP SWE}

7 ½ yrs black/white, tall handsome hound who I have placed well previously. Gorgeous head and dark eye with good ears and set. Excellent overall conformation and was initially my class winner but he was just not on as top form moving as the winner today.

2 grand Veterans.

Puppy Dog 2 ,{1 abs}

1st: Dawson`s STUBBYLEE BOOM LIKE THAT

At just 9 mths this lemon/white is a real character. Handsome head and dark eye he really looks the part standing with correct topline, he has great style and presence. Still immature in many ways he is a very promising youngster and when he settled on the move he had great reach and drive, particularly looked good on the side movement. Lovely tail and set. Beautifully presented and handled, well deserved BPIS. Interested to see his dam is one of my favourite bitches, hopefully he will follow in her Championship footsteps.

Graduate Dog. 5 {1 abs}

1st: Umfreville`s STUBBYLEE PENDERYN AT VOYSHKA

Nearly 2 yrs half brother to previous class winner. Still very immature white/red but for me an easy winner in this class. Excellent head with good eye and set, I like his overall conformation and type, he just needs to fill his frame, a real slow mature he has excellent feet ,pasterns and correct topline. Sound front and rear when settled ,with super side movement and a lovely light spring in his gait.

I must compliment his handler who really got the best out of this youngster who was over confident when he first entered the ring , after very sympathetic handling he soon recovered and showed excellent presence.

2nd: Tomlinson`s GO GO BOLSHOI HELIOS {IMP HUN}

19 months mahogany/white. Although he is 4 months younger this hound is more mature with more substance than above, but lacking the style and presence for me. Well balanced head , good eye and set. Although well bodied and in good hard muscular condition I preferred the overall movement and topline of winner. A little fond of his tail today which spoilt the overall picture.

3rd:Dover`s EVERWYCK GOLDEN PSAMMEAD AT KEANVER

Post Graduate Dog . 4

1st: Harvey`s LYNX TELL A TALE OF ALBANEILER {IMP SWE}

Masculine 20 mahogany/white, he is mature with excellent head , dark eye with correct ears and set. Very nice hound to go over,well bodied with good depth and length. Correct front and hind co-ordination with good tail and set. Excellent coat and presentation, most settled on the move in this class, he is well balanced throughout.

2nd: Wallace`s MISHRAN TAKODA

3 yrs white/sable, I really liked him, he is a different style to the winner, more refined and not as settled on the today. Handsome head and dark eye, not quite the fore-chest of above but good pasterns and feet. Lovely outline and topline when standing with excellent hind angulation and strong drive behind. He has great style and with the right ring practise he shows a lot of promise for a good future.

3rd: Dover`s PALAMEDES ARIAN KYRYSOS AT KEANVER JW ShCEx OSW

Limit Dog. 4 {1abs}

1st: Clare`s DONSKOI THE MAD HATTER AT RUSSMECHTA

4 ½ yrs rich mahogany/white. One I have placed well before and he is still a well constructed, well bodied , strong and now more mature hound. Well balanced but slightly refined head he has a dark eye, correct ears and set. Very heavily coated which does detract a little from his topline and outline when stacked. You really have to get your hands on him to appreciate his front and hind angulation, he is sound throughout and his handler really does get the best out of him on the move. Good pasterns and feet.

2nd: Raczka`s GO GO BOLSHOI CASINO ROYAL {IMP HUN}

3 yrs sable/white. I judged him as a Junior and he really has developed into handsome hound with a lot to like about him. Unfortunate to meet winner today as I preferred his head and topline to above but he just needs to lose a little weight which would improve his overall outline immensely and give him a lighter movement. Masculine throughout , lovely head and dark eye, well bodied with great depth and length , sound front and rear. Excellent presentation.

3rd: Thomas` MOJ MILY POLOT KHARUSSO {IMP POL}

Open Dog .2

1st: Dawson`s MISHRAN THE SEQUEL FOR STUBBYLEE JW

3 yrs blue brindle/white, very striking hound, handsome head with dark eye and correct ears. Good neck into well laid shoulders, good bone , pasterns and feet. Great depth of brisket with correct rise over the loin, excellent width behind with good sweep of hindquarters and low set hocks. Nice tail set and carriage. Still not fully matured he has excellent side movement with great reach and drive. Presented and handled to perfection. Challenged hard for the CC but just not quite the maturity and finish of the Champion Dog winner. Res CC.

2nd: Clare`s DONSKOI SZLALOST

Nearly 6 yrs dark sable/white. Very handsome male who is just my style and at first I thought he was my winner. Excellent overall conformation with a masculine, elegant head with dark eye. Good front and hind co-ordination . He looked great standing but unfortunately let himself down on the move and was totally outshone by the younger hound today. Doing my critique I discover he is the litter brother to my CC and BOB winner,they are so alike in many ways !

Special Beginners Dog. 2

1st: Dover`s EVERWYCK GOLDEN PSAMMEAD AT KEANVER

Just 2 yrs red/white, tall youngster who is quite refined throughout and just needs to body up with maturity, he has a good outline with excellent topline. Still looks a real youngster on the move but won this class with ease.

2nd: Umfreville`s BARNSMORE BETELGEUSE AT VOYSHKA

At nearly 6 yrs the red/white male is fully matured ,he is well bodied with good length, not my style of head and needs a little more topline on the move.

Champion Dog. 1

1st: Clare`s CH. DONSKOI GROZA AT RUSSMECHTA.

Nearly 6 yrs white/sable, superb male who has matured into a top quality hound. I have previously awarded him a res CC and I was thrilled he was here today. He oozes quality and masculinity with elegance and is in his prime. He has great presence and style and so sound with easy flowing, powerful movement that was untouchable today. Great topline and outline that he kept at all times. I loved everything about him and very happy to award him the CC and BIS

BITCHES

Superb line -up for the bitch CC challenge today

Veteran Bitch .1

1st: Rogerson`s CH. DONSKOI BARISTINYA

7 ½ yrs rich red/white, another quality hound from this very successful breeder. She really is at her best, not a big bitch but is absolutely excellent in every quarter, lovely type and style. Still moves with front reach and drive behind, considered her strongly for the res CC but just had to give way to the younger Open winner today.

Puppy Bitch .3

1st: Webb`s MISHRAN BRYONIA

Just 6 months and I believe at her first show. She absolutely stole my heart and one I would definitely have taken home. Very pretty white/red, gorgeous head and dark eye, beautifully made throughout and when she eventually had all four feet on the ground she moved soundly and with style. Totally out-matured and out-moved in the challenge for Best Puppy but shows immense promise for the future. Res BPIS

2nd: Dover`s SUKESHI HOT DANCER AT KEANVER

10 mths white/black, at first glance my winner and more mature than above but preferred pasterns and tighter front of the younger pup today. Feminine head and dark eye, excellent depth and length, correct topline and outline with lovely sweep of hindquarters. Good tail set and carriage. 2 lovely pups.

3rd: Clare`s FAIR ISLE ITA AT RUSSMECHTA {IMP SWE}

Graduate Bitch. 4

1st: Hall`s JANSAMS BLOODY MARY {AI} JW

Very mature at 19 mths, sable/white , one I have admired from the ringside and I was happy to go over her. She is very sound and well constructed throughout with excellent bone, well bodied with good overall balance. She has good pasterns and feet, sound easy mover with excellent front and hind co-ordination, low set hocks, beautiful coat and presentation.

2nd: Derrick`s JANSAMS COSMOPOLITAN {AI}

Another very nice bitch, striking litter sister to above and very similar in style and type, not as mature but has a lot to like about her. Pretty head and dark eye , I like her overall balance and well bodied. Moved soundly in this big ring but not quite the reach and drive of her sibling. Not as heavily coated but excellent overall quality.

3rd: Conroy`s EVERWYCK CALADRIA AT ENOLAM

Post Graduate Bitch. 2

1st: Catalina`s BORSCANA SOLGLIMT AT DOFRO

Just 2 yrs red/white. Very pretty head and dark eye, good length of neck into correctly laid shoulders,good depth and forechest with good bone, pasterns and feet. Correct length, topline and ribbing. Lovely hindquarters with low hock, oozes type. Correct coat, well presented and in hard muscular condition. Another who I considered in the challenge but today was a little overweight which for me spoilt the overall picture whilst on the move.

2nd: Dawson`s STUBBYLEE AT SUNRISE JW

22 mths mahogany/white. More refined and lighter overall style than winner she has an excellent head and dark eye,{which I slightly preferred } correct front and hind co-ordination she has an excellent topline, which she kept at all times. Less mature than above she has great style and I sure a great future.

Mid Limit Bitch.2 {1abs}

1st: Donnelly`s SUKESHI TSARINA CATHERINE

Nearly 3 yrs white/red. Refined feminine head with good eye and shape, correct ears and set. Arched neck flowing smoothly into well laid shoulders, good depth of brisket and well ribbed back with good length. Would like a little less weight as it rather spoilt her topline. Good width behind with low set hocks. A little unsettled in the front today but has good overall type and balance.

Limit Bitch. 3

Three very different styles of hounds who all had a lot to like about them.

1st: Jackson`s MISHRAN CIRI AT PADZTAR

Nearly 5 yrs mature self-black, pretty, feminine head with dark eyes, she is refined throughout, I would like a little more front and hind angulation but she is totally balanced with correct topline. In fine form muscularly she was easily the best mover in the class, sound front and rear she really made the best of herself on the move. Lovely correct coat ,so shiny and beautifully presented.

2nd: Harvey`s LYNX FAIRY TALE OF ALBANEILER {IMP SWE}

20 mths fawn/white, more my style of hound and at first glance my winner but was outmoved by the more mature black today. She is feminine and has excellent type, well bodied with good length of ribbing and strong loin, Good front and hind angulation with no over exaggeration. Just did not show to her full potential. Litter sister to Post Grad Dog winner.

3rd: Wheatley`s TAKATORI LEGALLY BLONDE

Open Bitch.4 {1abs}

1st: Donnelly & Devereaux`s SUKESHI ANNA LEOPOLDOVNA

Nearly 3 yrs white/red, litter sister to Mid-Limit winner and one I have judged and admired before. Still young but quite mature and a very classy hound. I love her style and presence, very well constructed throughout with good length of neck into correct lay of shoulder and nice return of upper-arm, plenty of forechest with good bone and feet. Well ribbed back with nice topline, long, well angulated hindquarters with low set hocks. Very sound and so close to the CC in the challenge but another who was carrying a little too much weight today and had to settle for the Res CC amongst hot competition.

2nd: Webb`s MISHRAN TISSAIA AT PARSAX

5 yrs mahogany/white, different style to above and slightly shorter coupled. Good front and hind co-ordination, very pretty head and dark eye, I liked her overall balance,well bodied with good bone, pasterns and feet, correct low set hocks. Not quite the reach of the winner but has a lot to like about her.

3rd: Smetton-Minson`s CHYWOON PILLOW TALK

Special Beginners Bitch .3

1st: Derrick`s JANSAMS COSMOPOLITAN {AI}

Prev 2nd Post Grad B

2nd: Dover`s SUKESHI HOT DANCER AT KEANVER

Prev 2nd Puppy B

3rd: Jackson`s STUBBYLEE BLACK SILK

Champion Bitch .3

 All present and all very worthy of their titles.

1st: Smetton-Minson`s CH. DONSKOI SPIRIT AT CHYWOON.

Superb 6 yrs white/red. As soon as she entered the ring she stood out to me, not hugely coated but absolutely oozes type and quality. Gorgeous head and dark eye, correct conformation throughout with lovely angles in all the right places. She looked super standing and moved with great front reach and drive behind with strong hindquarters, using her low set hocks to advantage and keeping her topline at all times. Pleased to give her the CC and very interested to discover that she is half-sister to my Dog CC winner. She really gave him a run for the money in the challenge for BIS but he just had that little extra style and finish to beat her but a well deserved Res BIS.

2nd: Hall`s JANSAMS KILLER QUEEN

Also 6 yrs, mature , heavily coated white/gold. Excellent overall balance and well constructed throughout, solid and not quite as rangy as the winner, very sound front and rear in great muscular condition. Her daughter won the Graduate class and they are very similar in many ways, both with good type and substance. Excellent presentation and handling.

3rd: Dawson`s CH. STUBBYLEE CHIARA MIA

Brace .2

1st: Clare`s very well matched white/sable litter brothers, both excellent examples of the breed and very, very similar throughout. Won this class easily moving with good co-ordination around the ring.

2nd: Webb`s litter sisters who are also very similar in style and markings to each other , but they are slightly different colours.
