“I would like to send a huge thank you to the officers and committee of the Boston & District Canine Society for the wonderful privilege and honour of awarding my very first Challenge Certificate in Staffordshire Bull Terriers. This was such a monumental milestone for me, and a day I will always look back on with fondness. A special thank you must also go to my fantastic ring stewards for keeping everything running so smoothly, and of course, to the exhibitors for their wonderful sportsmanship and for giving me the absolute pleasure of judging your beautiful Staffords.

While there was so much to admire in terms of overall type, I was a little disappointed to find that a few dogs lacked the hard, fit condition that is so essential for our athletic breed. We also had the weather to contend with! The high winds caused the tent to flap quite loudly, which unfortunately spooked a few of the dogs and affected their confidence, expression, and movement on the day. However, it was still a joy to judge, and I truly appreciate everyone who brought their dogs under

1ST 6084 – Brockmar Hot Shot (Mr Rf Farrely)

 A highly promising black brindle with white chest who is 7-month-old. He has a good length of muzzle housing large teeth, a dark eye and a beautiful head shape with neat ears, giving him that keen expression that caught my eye the moment he entered the ring. For his age, he is remarkably well-balanced and shows great promise for the future. His front is straight with good bone for his stage of development, leading to well-placed shoulders and a level topline that he holds well both standing, and on the move. He is in excellent condition, carrying just the right amount of weight, and moved with a surprisingly mature, steady stride for a minor puppy and he was completely in sync with his handler. He is everything and more that I would want in a 7-month-old puppy. Definitely another exciting dog to watch from this established kennel.”. He also has a delightful temperament and showed his socks off. A very worthy winner who later went on to claim Best Puppy Dog . 

2ND 6167 – Simpstaff The Pretender (Mr P & Mrs A Simpson)

 The markings to this red pup with his white neck, chest and fore legs make him eye catching. He has the darkest of eyes, nice thin ears, and a black nose to his good length of muzzle that houses large white teeth giving him a perfect bite. He has a nice width to his front with ample bone for his age. He has a Solid neck, leading to well laid back shoulders with a Good depth of brisket. Once he was settled, he moved well and held his topline whilst driving too and away. A nice pup who is developing well. Good luck with him.

A brindle and white top end of the standard-sized puppy dog who absolutely oozes quality . He is balanced throughout and incredibly clean, showing strong potential in all departments.

He possesses a correct scissor bite and a wonderfully proportioned head piece, displaying promising, clean muscle development without any hint of coarseness. Neat rose ears, and dark, round eyes that give a typical, melting expression. His short, strong neck flows smoothly into well-placed shoulders, leading down to a wide, straight front supported by strong pasterns and tight, well-padded feet.

His body structure is excellent for his age; the brisket is coming down nicely and he displays a good spring of rib. Close-coupled with a level topline that he maintains perfectly both when stacked, and on the move. Noticeable definition from his last rib to his first thigh, showing correct angulation to the second thigh and stifle. Finished off with a correct pump-handle tail set. Moved with great drive and was handled expertly to bring out his best. A very exciting youngster who is going to have a lot of success I believe 

2nd 6190 – Yamato Blade Domidar Dogs (R Zalis)

 A very striking, quality black brindle puppy who has a great deal to offer. He possesses a beautiful, clean head with a developing depth of muzzle, a distinct stop, and a keen, dark eye. He is beautifully balanced for his age, showing a short, strong neck that flows into well-placed shoulders and a neat body with plenty of ribbing. He stands on straight, well-boned front legs and displays an excellent, tight foot.

He was understandably unsettled by the noise in the venue today, which meant I could not fully assess him to his absolute potential However, when he did settle on the move , he showed glimpses of powerful drive from the rear. A very promising puppy of excellent breed type and quality who just needs time and maturity to build his confidence in noisy atmospheres. I am sure he has a bright future ahead.”

 A highly striking, standard-sized black brindle youngster who instantly catches the eye when entering the ring. He possesses a beautiful, clean, and well-proportioned head with a distinct stop, strong cheek bumps, and a powerful underjaw housing a perfect, correct scissor bite. His eyes are dark, round, and full of that classic, alert Stafford expression. He sports neat, tightly carried rose ears that he uses to his full advantage when showing. Moving down, he has a strong, muscular neck that flows seamlessly into well-placed, clean shoulders. His front is straight, wide, and square, sitting on plenty of round bone with excellent pasterns and tight, well-padded feet. He possesses a deep brisket and an excellent spring of rib for his age, leading into a short, tight, and well-filled loin. His topline remains dead level both when standing and on the move. He excels in his hindquarters, boasting a strong backend with a correct bend of stifle and parallel hocks that provide powerful drive. His tail is correctly set and carried like an old-fashioned pump handle. On the move, he is incredibly sound, parallel, and free-flowing coming and going. He was presented in hard, immaculate coat and condition, and handled to absolute perfection. An exciting prospect for the future who surely has a bright career ahead.

 Another highly promising young dog who pushed the winner closely in a strong and competitive class. He has a clean, strong head with a distinct stop, well-pronounced cheek muscles, and a dark, round eye that finishes off the correct keen expression. A clean underjaw with a correct bite. His neck is muscular and clean, flowing into well-placed shoulders and a wide, deep forechest and brisket.He has a short-coupled body, well-ribbed back with a level topline and a strong loin. On the move, he was powerful and agile, covering the ground with economy and showing a clean stride from all angles. Shown in hard fit condition . Another youngster with a very bright future ahead.”

He possesses a clean, well-defined head with a distinct stop, correct skull-to-muzzle ratios, and a keen, intelligent expression. His front is straight with plenty of bone, leading to well-padded feet. He showcases a strong, muscular neck that flows smoothly into well-laid shoulders. The topline remained level both standing and on the move. He is well-ribbed with a short loin, showing excellent conditioning throughout. On the move, he was precise, powerful, and drove effortlessly from the hindquarters. Fully deserved his top spot today. Shown in a fabulous fit condition and totally in sync with his handler

 Another quality youngster who pushed the winner closely. He displays a strong, masculine head with a good width of skull and correct bite. He is well-boned throughout with a deep chest and a good spring of rib. His coat was in immaculate condition, showing great muscle tone across his hindquarters. He is a fraction longer in loin than the winner, but he maintains a tight, clean outline. Moved out confidently around the ring with purpose, tracking straight and true. A very promising dog with a bright future ahead.

A well-proportioned young dog . He possesses a strong, head with a distinct stop, correct bite, and tight lips.

His expression is keen and full of typical breed character. He stands on straight, well-boned front legs with tight feet. His neck is muscular and flows smoothly into well-placed shoulders. His hindquarters are well-angulated and He moved with economy and purpose, covering the ground with ease. Handled to bring out his best attributes. A well-deserved winner.

2ND 6176 – Delight Spot’s Isidor (Imp Swe) (Miss R H & Mrs N Uggeldahl Liden & Mason)

Another high-quality exhibit that pushed the winner closely. He has a balanced outline and plenty of substance without ever looking coarse. His head is broad with a good depth of muzzle and well-placed ears. He has an excellent depth of brisket and well-sprung ribs. His loin is short and powerful. While he showed great strength of bone and correct hind angulation, he just lacked the total precision and fluid movement of the winner on the day, occasionally losing his topline slightly on the move. However, he is a very honest dog of great type and merit who should have a bright future ahead as long as there isn’t a noisy tent flapping in the wind .

 A highly impressive black brindle who immediately catches the eye with his clean, powerful silhouette and classic breed type. He possesses a beautifully balanced, distinctively wedge-shaped head with a deep stop, clean lips, and a keen, intelligent expression. His bite is spot on, and his underjaw shows great strength. He boasts a well-muscled neck that flows smoothly into correctly placed shoulders, a wide, deep chest, and a level topline that he holds perfectly both standing and on the move. His hindquarters are powerful and well-angulated, allowing him to drive effortlessly around the ring.

He is, without a doubt, a super dog with immense potential. My only constructive note is for his handler, who just needs to find their inner confidence. This is a top-quality Stafford who speaks for himself; relax, breathe, and trust in his ability, because he deserves to be noticed at the highest level. A well-deserved winner today, and I will watch his future career with great interest.

2ND 6184 – Wellsstaffs Young Warrior JW (Mr K & Mrs L Wells)

 A well-balanced, top-quality young dog who pushed the winner incredibly close today. He possesses a clean, strong wedge-shaped head with a distinct stop, dark round eyes, and neatly placed rose ears that give him a keen, intelligent expression. His bite is correct . He shows plenty of bone and substance throughout for his age without ever appearing coarse. He has a beautifully clean neck flowing smoothly into well-placed shoulders, a straight front, and a deep chest with a well-sprung rib cage. He is well-angulated in the hindquarters with a strong topline held both standing and on the move. However, on the day, I just preferred the overall precision, drive, and fluidity of movement of the first-place dog when viewed from all angles, which just gave him the edge in this highly competitive class. A very promising youngster who undoubtedly has a bright future

 What a lovely black brindle dog – he really catches your eye the moment he steps into the ring! He has a wonderfully balanced, clean head with a handsome, masculine look. He has lovely skull-to-muzzle ratio, a clear stop, a strong underjaw and a perfect bite. Those dark, round eyes are beautifully placed, giving him that clever, classic expression we all love. His neat rose ears are perfectly positioned and he certainly knows how to use them when showing. His strong, muscular neck flows smoothly into well-placed shoulders. He stands confidently on straight, sturdy legs with tight, well-padded feet. He has a broad chest, a deep brisket with a well sprung rib, staying compact with a firm, level back that he carries beautifully whether standing still or on the move. His hindquarters are lovely, with plenty of muscle in the thighs, a good bend at the stifle and well-set hocks. When moving, he glides around the ring with easy power and agility, keeping a brilliant profile and tracking straight all round. He’s in tip-top condition with a shiny coat a top-quality dog who fully deserved his win and surely has a bright future ahead.

 What a lovely, well-balanced dog. He has a strong, tidy head with a clear stop, a lovely bite and dark, expressive eyes. His neck flows beautifully into well-placed shoulders, and he boasts a deep chest with plenty of rib spring. He’s nicely boned all over and stands squarely on good feet. On the move, he glides along efficiently with great drive from behind, keeping a level topline throughout.

 An outstanding dark brindle specimen who pushed the eventual CC winner to the absolute limit today. He headed a strong class and stood out immediately for his textbook silhouette and powerhouse conditioning. Crucially, he is in fantastic, hard condition, with rock-solid muscle definition.

He possesses a classic style head-broad in skull, distinct in stop, and housing clean, strong jaws with a perfect bite. His expression is keen, intelligent, and full of typical Stafford temperament. He sports a beautifully clean neck that flows seamlessly into well-placed shoulders, leading down to a straight front, plenty of bone, and tight, well-padded feet. His chest is deep and wide, and he has a short, compact coupling with a powerful loin.

On the move, he was a joy to watch. He covers the ground with effortless drive, tracking perfectly true both coming and going, while maintaining a dead-level topline. He is a top-tier exhibit who looks fit for purpose. It was an incredibly close decision in the challenge,. I was delighted to award him RCC . 

2ND 6150 – Valglo Top Gun (Miss A S & Miss Z Pickett & Partridge)

 A black brindle dog of undeniable presence and substance. He possesses a tremendously powerful headpiece with a deep skull, pronounced cheek bumps, and a strong underjaw housing a correct bite. Clean, short neck leading into a straight front with ample round bone and tidy, well-padded feet. His body is heavily muscled, short-coupled, with a well-sprung rib assembly. Holds a level topline stood and on the move, and he covers the ground with drive. Today I preferred the slightly cleaner silhouette of the winner but a very fit, powerful specimen, just splitting hairs on type in this strong class.

A standout exhibit, who commanded the ring from the moment he entered. Having previously awarded this dog Best in Show, I was thrilled to see that he has not only maintained his exceptional form, but has matured into an absolute powerhouse of the breed.

He presents a striking, balanced silhouette that perfectly epitomises strength without a hint of exaggeration. His head is textbook Staffordshire Bull Terrier: broad in skull, with a distinct stop, highly pronounced cheek muscles, and a clean, strong underjaw. His expression is keen, intelligent, and full of character, enhanced by dark, well-set eyes and perfectly carried rose ears. His neck is muscular and clean, flowing seamlessly into well-laid shoulders. He possesses a broad, deep chest with a well-sprung rib cage, leading to a light loin that gives him that coveted, athletic taper. His topline remained rock-solid both standing and on the move. Hindquarters are powerful and well-angulated, showing excellent width of second thigh which provided immense drive from the rear.

On the move, he was a masterclass in economy of effort, clean, parallel, and precise from every angle, covering the ground with effortless power while holding his shape beautifully. It was a privilege to award him the Challenge Certificate that crowns him a Champion, a title he thoroughly deserves, followed by best of breed 

2ND 6163 – Ch Kamaristaffs Royal Ransom at Bowtman JW (Miss L Sheldon)

A beautifully balanced, upstanding dog, who presents a textbook silhouette. He stands four-square, immediately demanding attention with his distinct ring presence and true Stafford attitude. He boasts a cracking head of immense quality, defined by beautifully pronounced cheek muscles, a clean deep muzzle, and a perfect scissor bite. His expression is a highlight—framed by tidy, reactive ear carriage and the darkest, most piercing of eyes that make you look twice.

His neck flows smoothly into well-laid shoulders, leading to a smart, straight front with a fantastic depth and width to his brisket. He possesses well-sprung ribs, a short loin and His hindquarters are well-muscled with an excellent turn of stifle, providing powerful drive. On the day, he moved with great economy of effort and precision. He was unlucky to meet his litter brother in such sparkling form; the winner just edged it today on ultimate fitness and hard, muscular condition. However, there is no denying the immense quality of this dog. A top-tier exhibit who is an absolute credit to his owners, the breeders and the breed.

He fits the breed standard beautifully, showing no signs of coarseness despite his years. Outstanding, classic Stafford head shape with a broad skull, distinct stop, and deep muzzle. He uses his neat, correctly carried rose ears to give an intensely keen, typical expression. Blessed with a perfectly clean underjaw and a correct, tight scissor bite.Forequarters feature a true, straight front with excellent, round bone standing on tightly bunched, well-padded feet. His neck is muscular and clean, blending smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Terrific depth of brisket and excellent spring of rib that extends well back, keeping him beautifully short-coupled. His topline remains dead level both when stacked and on the move. Powerful, well-muscled hindquarters with a textbook bend of stifle and low-set pump-handle tail carriage. He moved around the ring with immense drive, purpose, and total soundness, easily out-striding his younger peers. Presented in hard, peak athletic condition with a gleaming close coat. Expertly handled to show off his undeniable class. A truly worthy winner. I was elated to watch him win the Veteran terrier group 

2ND 6174 – Ch Gazstaff’s Black Magic (Mr G R, Mrs C E, Mr C J & Mrs J Thomas & Griffiths)

 An incredibly high-quality black brindle veteran who pushed the winner exceptionally hard today. He standardises what a true Stafford should be, showing an excellent blend of bull and terrier attributes. He possesses a beautiful, strong, and deeply clean head shape with a distinct stop, crisp rose ears that he used constantly, a dark eye, and a perfect scissor bite. He stands on a true, straight front with ample bone, tight feet, and well-muscled shoulders. His deep brisket and well-sprung ribs lead back to a short-coupled loin and powerful rear assembly. He was handled beautifully and presented in hard, gleaming, and ultra-fit condition. On the move, he moved straight and true, holding a perfectly level topline with powerful drive from behind. A credit to his owners

His expression perfectly captures the true, keen nature of the breed.On the move, he showed great drive and purpose, maintaining a clean topline and holding his ground exceptionally well for a beginner’s class exhibit. He was presented in hard, muscular condition, showing off a deep chest and well-sprung ribs without ever looking bulky.What truly set him apart today was his seamless connection with his handler. Despite being in the Special Beginners category, he handled the ring atmosphere like a seasoned professional. He stood four-square with excellent front extension and plenty of power from the rear.

Neat ear carriage which he used well to show a keen, straightforward breed type. Correct scissor bite with tight lips and a strong underjaw. Strong, muscular neck flowing into a tidy outline with well-placed shoulders. Front is straight and ample width of chest, standing on tight, compact feet. Short-coupled and well-cast body with a true, level topline held firmly both stood and on the move. Notable definition to his underline and strong hindquarters showing ample bend of stifle. His short, tight coat was immaculate and in excellent condition. Moved out soundly and with great purpose, thoroughly deserving his place here today."

She catches your eye straight away with her lovely, tidy outline—full of quality but never bulky. Her head is a delight: feminine yet with a lovely depth, a clear stop, and a strong, neat underjaw with a perfect bite. She has a bright expression and neat rose ears. She stands confidently with a straight, wide front and well-boned legs ending in tidy neat feet, matched by a clean shoulder and a compact, well-ribbed body. On the move, she really came into her own, gliding along with effortless energy and plenty of drive from behind. She kept a steady topline and carried her pump-handle tail just right. Presented in brilliant condition and handled with great care—a brilliant young lady with a bright successful future ahead from this well known kennel.

 Brindle with white feet another young puppy showing all the correct virtues on one so young , again a feminine headpiece on this young lady . She has good length in muzzle and distant stop. She has clean lips with a good under jaw . Straight front with enough bone and substance, nice depth to her brisket and a developing spring of ribs. She moved well keeping her level top line and correct tail set and had drive from her nicely developing hind quarters again another bitch that worked well with her lady handler and was shown in a beautiful condition.

She is well-ribbed for her age with a strong loin and excellent hind angulation. She has Stafford attitude in abundance but was Impeccably handled and presented in fabulous condition. Delighted to award her 1st in a strong class, and she later thoroughly deserved the Res. Bitch CC. A youngster with a very good future ahead in my opinion.

 What a lovely white girl with red patch girl—she certainly grabs your attention the moment she steps into the ring! She has a beautifully balanced, feminine, yet strong head, with a clear stop, tidy skull and a dark, sparkling eye that really captures the true Stafford look. Her mouth is neat with a proper scissor bite and a strong underjaw. Once she’s on the move, she truly shines. She moved wonderfully straight both coming and going, keeping a firm, level topline and showing great power from her well-angled hindquarters. The handling was brilliant, showing her in excellent, muscular condition with no extra weight at all. She’s a top-quality youngster with a very bright future, I’m sure. I’m delighted to give her first place in such a competitive class.

An outstanding young Staffordshire Bull Terrier who provided the winner with formidable competition in this class. She exhibits a refined, feminine head with a clean, well-defined stop, dark, round eyes and an excellent expression. The forequarters are straight, with good brisket depth and well-sprung ribs for her age. She stands on neat, compact feet and presents a balanced silhouette with a strong, level topline maintained impeccably both when stacked and in motion. Powerful, well-angulated hindquarters enabled her to move with genuine drive and fluidity around the ring. Shown in exceptional, well-muscled condition. She narrowly missed the top award today nevertheless, she is an exemplary breed type with a promising future. Well handled.

A very close decision between first and second here. This bitch presents a lovely, balanced silhouette with a distinct, feminine head. She has a clean underjaw, a distinct stop, and a dark, expressive eye. Her front is straight with good bone and ample depth of brisket. She showed plenty of rib and was well-conditioned through the loin, moving with true purpose and drive once she settled into her stride. Just preferred the ultimate neatness of the winner’s front on the day, but she is a high-quality exhibit who should have a bright future.

Clean outline when viewed from front and side profile, showing a good spring of rib and correct angulation. There was really nothing between these two today; she just took a moment to settle into her movement, but she remains a beautiful exhibit of the breed

Having previously observed this bitch from ringside, whilst at previous shows, I had noted her as a perfectly acceptable specimen, yet she had not previously commanded my full attention. Today’s appointment, however,she blew me away and this served as a potent reminder of why hands-on assessment remains paramount in our role as judges. Upon closer examination, her true quality became immediately apparent. She possesses excellent head properties, displaying a clean, well-defined stop, a powerful underjaw, and a correct, complete bite. Round eye and neat ears give her a demanding expression. Her neck flows smoothly into well-laid shoulders,straight front complemented by a broad, deep brisket and a correct rib cage leading to a great tuck up She is presented in hard, muscular condition, exhibiting superb balance and substance without sacrificing her essential femininity. On the move, she covered the ground with impressive economy and drive, maintaining a rock-solid topline and correct tail set both coming and going. She is an outstanding example of the breed that must be handled to be fully appreciated.

It was a lovely moment when the final decisions were made; the owner was in complete shock, initially failing to realise she had won this strong class, and looked as though she might faint when I handed her the Challenge Certificate. I was absolutely to have such a worthy winner in such a strong class of outstanding bitches.

Another top-drawer black brindle bitch of undeniable quality who pushed the winner incredibly close. Beautifully balanced with a strong, deep head,dark round eye and correct ear carriage , clean under-jaw, all giving a keen, wicked expression. True correct front with excellent bone density, neat cat feet, and a well-sprung rib cage. Stood on a solid, level topline and possessed powerful hindquarters. Which made her move with great drive just preferred the ultimate hard, muscular condition of the winner on the day, but a stunning specimen who thoroughly deserved a close second place and worthy champion. 

A very close decision between two outstanding open bitches.

She has a straight, clean front with plenty of bone, well-placed shoulders and a lovely deep brisket. Her topline stayed firm and level both standing and moving. The coat is short, tight and in brilliant condition. She has a strong rear with a good bend of stifle. She gave the winner a real run for their money, moving with great ease, power and effortless drive. She was handled and presented perfectly – a real delight!
