Northern Counties Chihuahua Club

My sincere thanks to the club for inviting me to judge the Smooth Coats and for making me feel so welcome. This was my first time judging at a Championship Show, which made the day particularly special. Thank you to all the exhibitors who supported my entry and accepted my decisions so graciously, and to my fantastic stewards for all their hard work and good company.

With four Chihuahua rings running alongside Blackpool Championship Show, clashes were inevitable, so thank you to everyone for their patience – especially the husbands who found themselves roped into handling at short notice! I hope you enjoyed your time in the ring.

Overall, I was pleased with my entry. I noticed a few nails that could have been clipped and a handful who lacked a little confidence, although allowances were made given the busy surroundings. It was particularly pleasing to see an improvement in mouths and the overall condition of many exhibits since I last judged. Thank you to everyone who made my first Championship Show appointment such an enjoyable one.

1st 148 – SILVERSTEIN’S Silverchi Magic Moment

Attractive 7-month-old blue fawn bitch who appealed for her confidence and ring presence from the outset. A compact youngster with a neat outline and lovely proportions. Pretty feminine head with a well-rounded apple dome skull, defined stop and large, well-set ears. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, straight front and nicely ribbed for her age, with a correctly set and well-carried tail completing the picture. Covered the ground well with good reach and drive, holding her topline on the move. A very well-schooled puppy, presented in excellent condition, and one with every prospect of a bright future. Pleased to award Best Puppy Bitch.

2nd SLAVENIC’S Charonchi Forever You And Me

Another attractive 6-month-old gold and white youngster who ran my winner close. Beautiful head giving the desired saucy expression, with good muzzle length, correctly set ears and a correct scissor bite. Slightly arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with good front and rear angulation. Compact in body with a level outline and correct tail set and carriage. Moved positively and showed well for one so young. Was just a little unsure on the table today, which, together with the greater ring confidence of my winner, decided the placings. Another promising youngster with a bright future ahead.

Charming 9-month-old red sable and gold youngster of lovely breed type. A dainty, feminine exhibit with a balanced outline and compact frame. Lovely head with dark, expressive eyes and well-set ears giving the desired saucy expression; one of the sweetest expressions of the day. Good neck blending into well-laid shoulders, level topline and correct tail set and carriage. Moved briskly, holding her shape well and showing plenty of enthusiasm. Still very much a baby with lots of time to mature and develop, but she has all the attributes to make a lovely exhibit. Presented in excellent condition.

2nd FAIRBAIRN’S Tidos Hunt Rix

Typical 9-month-old tri bitch of lovely breed type. A feminine youngster with a balanced outline and pleasing proportions. Pretty head with a well-rounded skull, dark expressive eyes, well-set ears and a correct scissor bite, giving the desired saucy expression. Graceful neck flowing into a good front, firm level topline and correct tail set and carriage. Moved soundly, holding her balanced outline throughout. A well-schooled youngster who showed herself to advantage. Splitting hairs between my first and second today, but I just preferred the size of my winner on this occasion.

Typical 14-month-old fawn bitch of breed type, full of character and showing the desired spirited attitude. A well-schooled exhibit with a lovely feminine head, dark expressive eyes and a typical saucy expression. Well-rounded skull with good ear placement and correct scissor bite. Slightly arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, strong over the topline with a well-ribbed body. Correct tail set and carriage completing a balanced outline. Covered the ground with ease, holding her shape throughout. A pleasure to watch, with an obvious rapport between handler and exhibit, allowing her to show herself to full advantage throughout. A lovely smooth coat who appealed for her overall balance and breed type. Pleased to award her Best Bitch. In the challenge for Best of Breed, I just preferred the stronger underjaw of the Best Dog.

2nd RUSSELL’S Chriouxe Breakdown

15-month-old cream bitch of feminine breed type. Pretty head with a well-defined stop and correctly tapered muzzle, giving a pleasing expression. Neat in outline and balanced throughout with correct tail carriage, completing a lovely overall picture. Moved freely, retaining her shape throughout. Full of spirit and typical Chihuahua character. I preferred the slightly more substantial bone and overall finish of my winner on this occasion.

1st WILCOX’S Amtula Diddly Squat

Smart 11-month-old typical tri bitch with a lovely head and plenty to admire. Pleasing expression, although I would have preferred slightly larger eyes. Presented a balanced outline, stood to advantage and moved briskly. Clearly keen to get on with the job and enjoyed showing herself on the move. Just a little uneasy on the table at times, but this should improve with experience.

2-year-old black tri bitch of pleasing breed type. A small, dainty and compact exhibit with a lovely feminine head, well-rounded apple dome skull and correct scissor bite with good dentition. Straight front, good overall balance and a pleasing silhouette.

2nd HUMPHREYS’ Amarantos Oriana

Feminine 2-year-old red sable. Pretty head with a well-rounded apple dome skull, nicely shaped eyes and well-set ears. Correct scissor bite with good dentition. Held a level outline both standing and on the move. Moved soundly coming and going, maintaining her outline throughout. A lovely exhibit who made this a close decision, but I just preferred the smaller, more compact outline.

1st FOTHERGILL’S Diamonchi La Dolcie Vita

23-month-old cream bitch of excellent breed type. Small, dainty and compact, presenting a lovely overall picture with a firm, level topline and correct sickle tail carriage. Pretty feminine head with well-set ears, a correctly tapered muzzle and excellent dentition. Good rear angulation, enabling her to move with good reach and drive while keeping her shape well on the move. A happy, outgoing exhibit who clearly enjoyed her day in the ring and showed herself to full advantage. A very close decision between this bitch and my Best Bitch, and on another day the placings could easily have been reversed. Reserve Best Bitch.

2-year-old chocolate tri bitch of lovely breed type. Feminine throughout with balanced proportions and an appealing expression. Pretty head with large, expressive eyes, a well-rounded apple dome skull, well-defined stop and correctly set ears, giving the desired breadth to the head. Firm, level topline maintained both standing and on the move. Moved briskly and showed herself to full advantage. A well-schooled exhibit presented in lovely condition.

2nd GRACE & TWADDLE’S Saeta De El Cappricho De Ela At Sasilasy (IMP ESP)

22-month-old fawn sable bitch of pleasing breed type. Feminine throughout with a pretty head, dark expressive eyes and a nicely tapered muzzle. Presented a balanced outline with a firm, level topline, correct tail set and carriage. Covered the ground well, holding her profile throughout. A close decision between my first and second, but I just preferred the overall balance and outline of my winner on this occasion.

6-year-old red bitch of lovely breed type who clearly enjoyed her day in the ring. Pretty feminine head with a well-rounded apple dome skull, dark expressive eyes and well-set ears, giving a typical saucy expression. Good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and a firm, level topline maintained on the move. Tail set high and carried correctly. Moved with good reach and drive and remained attentive to her handler throughout, showing herself to full advantage.

2-year-old cream bitch of pleasing breed type. A fine-boned, feminine exhibit with a pretty head, dark expressive eyes and correctly set ears, giving a pleasing expression. Good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with a firm, level topline and correct tail carriage completing a pleasing silhouette. Held her outline well on the move and showed happily for her handler. A close decision, but I just preferred the head and expression of my winner on this occasion.

7½-year-old cream dog of excellent breed type. Masculine while remaining dainty and compact, presenting a balanced outline. Lovely masculine head with large, dark expressive eyes and well-set ears giving a typical Chihuahua expression. Good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, level topline and a correct flat, furry tail carried well. Well ribbed with good depth of chest and enough rear angulation to move with good reach and drive. A very showy exhibit who never stopped showing for his handler and thoroughly deserved Best Veteran in Breed.

2nd EVANS’ Ritagold Ice Warrior At Lemaritz ShCM

11-year-old cream dog enjoying his day in the ring. Presented a balanced outline with a firm, level topline and correct tail carriage. Moved soundly coming and going, showing happily throughout. A lovely veteran who has clearly been well schooled. A close decision, but I just preferred the overall outline and expression of my winner on this occasion.

1st BURROWS’ Anadeia Ehlark At Lauloura

Smart little blue fawn dog of lovely breed type. Compact and well balanced with a pretty head, dark expressive eyes and well-set ears giving a pleasing expression. Held a firm, level topline with a correct flat, furry tail carried well, completing a balanced outline. Moved soundly throughout and was very patient with his handler. A lovely little dog who appealed for his overall balance and breed type. Reserve Best Dog.

2nd JONES’ Okajem’s Guyde Me To Pepeetolynn

7½-month-old fawn sable dog of pleasing breed type. Compact and balanced with a masculine head and good expression. Held a firm, level topline and moved well throughout, showing happily for his handler. Another promising youngster, but I just preferred the ear set and overall finish of my winner on this occasion.

1st ROONEY’S Copymear Conquistador

8½-month-old fawn and white dog who immediately caught my eye and oozed breed type. Presented a lovely outline with a lovely headpiece, dark expressive eyes and well-set ears giving a typical Chihuahua expression. Particularly admired his lovely length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, a feature I feel is becoming less common in the breed. Firm, level topline and a perfect sickle tail completed the picture. Moved soundly coming and going, holding his outline well throughout. A thoroughly deserving Best Puppy in Breed and my Best of Breed. Delighted to later see him take Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show.

2nd BURROWS’ Anadeia Annael

11-month-old cream dog who appealed for his balanced outline and firm, level topline. Pleasing head and expression, with correct tail carriage completing the picture. Moved well both coming and going and showed happily for his handler. Pushed my winner hard, but on this occasion I felt first had the stronger headpiece and overall breed type.

16-month-old cream dog with a lovely saucy expression that immediately caught my eye. Presented a fabulous outline with a firm, level topline and correct tail carriage. Attractive headpiece with dark expressive eyes and well-set ears completing the picture. Moved soundly and confidently.

1st HOLLAND’S Frapachi Once Upon A Dream At Emarachis (IKC)

18-month-old red and white dog of pleasing breed type. Well-schooled and showed confidently throughout. Attractive head and expression with a firm, level topline. Moved well, but I would have preferred a slightly higher tail set to complete the overall picture.

21-month-old blue tri who has matured nicely since I last judged him as a puppy. A very flirty little boy with a lovely domed head, typical expression and well-set, flaring ears. Correct dentition and a lovely reach of neck leading into a balanced outline with a firm, level topline. Moved well throughout and showed himself to full advantage.

2-year-old black tri dog of pleasing breed type. Smart, masculine exhibit with a lovely head, correct dentition, nicely set ears and correct eyes giving a typical saucy expression. Good length of neck flowing into a firm, level topline and good depth of chest. Moved well throughout and was presented in excellent condition. For my preference, I would not wish to see him any bigger.

2-year-old red sable dog of pleasing breed type. Handsome head with a well-rounded apple dome skull, dark expressive eyes and a nice ear set. Well-muscled throughout with a firm, level topline. Moved well coming and going with good reach and drive, remaining alert and happy throughout. I just preferred the overall balance and finish of my winner on this occasion. I would have liked to see a little more of the desired sickle tail carriage.

2-year-old red sable dog who appealed for his lovely head and expression. Large dark eyes, well-set ears, a well-rounded apple dome skull and a correctly tapered muzzle, a feature I was particularly pleased to see, all combined to give the desired saucy expression. Correct dentition. Compact and balanced with a firm, level topline and correct tail carriage. What a little pocket rocket he is! Moved well both coming and going, maintaining his outline throughout. Presented in excellent condition. If I were being picky, I would have preferred a slightly longer tail.

2nd HEAP & PALMER’S Rudy Ruby

Attractive 2-year-old red dog with a lovely head and expression. Well-rounded apple dome skull, large dark eyes and well-set flaring ears. Good length of neck leading into a level topline and correct sickle tail. Compact and balanced throughout, moving well coming and going.
