The Southern Pointer Club Championship Show
September 6th 2026
My grateful thanks for the invitation to judge at the Club Show, and also many thanks to my efficient and tireless stewards who kept the ring running like clockwork.
As is usual in a very good entry, there were some difficult decisions on the day, mostly relating to movement – dogs that looked a picture on the stack didn’t always reflect that same promise on the move and paid the price on this occasion. I think tails have improved for the most part over the last 10-15 years. Correctly sloping pasterns in particular need to be watched, they are no longer commonplace as they should be, and are the shock absorbers for a galloping breed. I found my principal winners to all be great examples of the breed, and in most of the higher classes there were many quality exhibits and I was spoilt for choice in both sexes.
Minor Puppy Bitch (4)
1. Welch’s Quinnery Betsy Trotwood at Hookwood 8 months b/w who was very together on both the stack and the move for her age. A little too much foreface for me at this stage, but heads can change with maturity. Good overall balance, athletic mover.
2. Jenkin’s Sniperay Campari 6 months lem/w who gave a lot away in age today – to be expected at her age. Very pretty head, good substance and bone, pleasing overall shape, good depth and well balanced for a baby. Very similar remarks applied to her sister who she just pipped today, both promising babies.
3. Radcliffe’s Sniperay Outdoor Girl
Puppy Bitch (6,3)
1. Bond & Rawlinson’s Pharises Doja Cat 9 months old b/w who stacked with a great shape, lovely medium size, super head of good type, well angulated both ends and maintaining a strong topline, went well with great enthusiasm and style but needs to strengthen in hocks on the move, BPB and Reserve Best Puppy In Show.
2. Tregaskis’ Caithpoint Keep The Heid With Moenfair 9 months old b/w out of a larger mould than the first and carrying enough weight but pleasing and balanced in outline, went steadily holding her topline, just not quite as together at this stage but plenty of time on her side.
3. W/D
Junior Bitch (7)
1. Blake’s Wilchrimane Flomotion For Sandbears 14 months o/w, very attractive and classy all through, pretty head with the darkest of pigmentation, slightly broad in the backskull, lovely angulation both ends and firm topline, sloping pasterns and good feet, athletic on the move and impressive in side gait but a little untidy going away today.
2. Welch & Hazletine’s Corotine Noir Blossom With Hookwood b/w bitch with a pretty head, good balance all through, correct harsh coat, medium size with nothing overdone, athletic mover but toeing in slightly.
3. McManus’ Freebreeze Gertrude Stein At Luneville
Yearling Bitch (9)
1. Siddle’s Wilchrimane Hex Appeal 22 months b/w, very clean and elegant throughout, typy head with kind expression, nicely angulated, well muscled, good tail carriage and her steady true action won her the class over another lovely young bitch.
2. Kennedy’s Droveborough Black Magic JW 22 months b/w who is a lovely medium size with good bone and substance, workmanlike but feminine, attractive head with soft expression, very balanced throughout, loved her stacked but today she was moving close behind which cost her on this occasion.
3. Booth’s Lundgarth Ticket To Fly JW
Maiden Bitch (5,1)

Limit Bitch (11,1)
1. Norbury, Ganney & Upton’s Heartbury Belacqua liv/w with a pretty head showing a correct length of foreface, built on elegant lines, shapely underline, sound and honest all through with no exaggerations, moved correctly holding her topline with a good tailset and carriage.

3. Irshad’s Droveborough Super Trooper.
Junior Dog (7,1)
1. Gerrard, Bell and Galloway’s Chesterhope Agent Orange At Carmandine (IMP NZ) JW stylish o/w dog, up to size for me but not heavy and retaining typical pointer elegance, fit looking and attractive with an aristocratic bearing, appealing head with a soft expression, lengthy neck leading into well laid shoulders, good front, tight elbows, strong in topline, good quarters and correct tailset, a little keen on the move at times but he is full of character and some high jinks are to be expected in one so young , covered his ground well when settled, delighted to award this quality young dog the CC and Reserve Best In Show.

Novice Dog (5,1)
1. Senior’s Riowood Cherry Bomb Over Alaszdale.
