Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Club of Great Britain - Lindsey Townsend Memorial Special Award Classes -Sunday the 29th of March 2026
I would like to thank the HWVCGB for their kind invitation for me to judge their Lindsey Townsend Memorial Special award classes at this year’s Championship Show. There was a great atmosphere and good sportsmanship, which made for a lovely show. Thank you to my ring steward Sian Ryan for keeping the ring moving well.
Thank you also to the exhibitors for supporting me with a great entry, it was very much appreciated and the mixed classes of different to normal classification made for some difficult choices but I was pleased with my winners .
Class 25 S/A Yearling Dog or Bitch (4)
1st Zoldmali Hunter Vica Of Zoltarous (IMP HUN) (Dr Z Dicker )
I liked this Bitch for her overall type and quality however for me she could be just a size bigger as I would prefer a little more length of leg. She is well made throughout with a super harsh coat excellent bone and plenty of substance but with nothing exaggerated and is very workmanlike in her demeanour. She has the best of heads, although her eyes could be a shade darker. Her neck is strong and slightly arched, she has well laid shoulders although I would prefer a little more length of upper arm. Her ribs are moderately well sprung and carried well back and there is a good balance of ribs and loin. Although I would prefer a little more width of thigh, she is moderately angulated behind with a correct slightly sloping croup and correct tail set. Initially I thought of her to be moving a little wide behind on her fist few strides but once she was settled, she moved well through the rest of the class showing good reach and drive carrying her tail perfectly horizontal. She really showed herself well to beat the younger bitch into second and I hope she can continue to move like she did on this occasion in future. Will look forward to seeing this bitch progress through the higher classes. She should have a great future.
2nd Enryb Eat Your Greens (Miss J Elders)
A different type to 1 with a slightly bigger frame, although she is still growing. I wouldn’t like her to get too big, but I’m sure she will finish a good size. A well put together young feminine bitch who would have been even harder to beat in a puppy class, giving a lot away in age and development to my winner today. She has a well-proportioned head with good furnishings which gives her the sweetest of expressions also living up to that lively expression, I’m sure. Again, I would prefer a darker eye, but it is harmonious with her coat colour although as she matures they should darken, her coat was of good texture. A clean neck flows into her well-made straight front with a more desired upper arm than 1. She has excellent rear angulation with good width of thigh. She is also well off for bone, her feet could tighten but I’m sure this will also come. She was somewhat unsettled on the move initially and was not as together as 1 but this is just as I expect from a very young bitch, although she shows good reach and drive. Overall, it could just be a bit tidier with her foot placing but this will come. She has a lot of potential and is an exciting young prospect, just what the breed needs. Good luck with her.
Class 26 S/A Bred by Exhibitor Dog or Bitch (6,1)
1st ShCh Deifstock Dare to Dream JW (Mr & Mrs S Cooper)
A well-made unexaggerated, balanced and very sound bitch who I imagine is really coming into her own now. A correct head with adequate furnishings although I would prefer a little more stop. Her chest is well developed, and she has plenty of substance throughout. She has good front and rear assembly and is strong over her back with a slightly sloping croup and a good tail set. Excellent harsh coat of a dark russet colour and stands on very good feet with correct slightly sloping pasterns with adequate bone. She has excellent muscle tone and is fit for the breed’s function. Moved well, steadily with good reach and drive carrying both her head and tail well.
2nd Twelveoaks Goodwood Pippin (Mr R Court)
A very masculine male who is very typical of the breed with a good coat , excellent bone and plenty of substance. His head is all male, is well proportioned and slightly rounded. He has good facial furnishings with an intelligent expression, slightly oval eyes of a good colour. His coat is of a real harsh texture of good colour and has sufficient undercoat. A strong neck leads into good shoulders, he has a well-developed chest and good depth to his ribs, his elbows could be slightly tighter and tidier to his body. He is slightly longer than he is tall, but his ribbing could be carried further back, this would benefit him by giving him a slightly shorter loin. He has moderate rear angulation but would benefit from some more muscle. I would also like a little more slope to his croup. He had a tendency to move a little untidy on occasions today, both going away and coming towards, but I did like how he moved confidently with purpose. He carries his head and tail well.
Class 27 S/A Not Bred by Exhibitor Dog or Bitch (7)
1st Twelveoaks Idaho Morganna (Mrs R Newman)
What a super young male, showing great breed type. He really looks like he’s been here, and he’s done it all before, for a young dog of only 11 months he was very well settled and schooled, and I liked him for his moderate construction also , there was nothing over done on this male. He has a very good head of good proportions, not as well furnished as some but what he has is suffice and I’m sure he will have some more as he gets older which would just finish his head off nicely. His front assembly is very well made and developed for his age with a good straight front well laid shoulders and excellent corresponding upper arm, he also has good substance and a good amount of bone. His back is strong and his ribs moderately well sprung, his coat is an attractive russet gold colour with the correct harsh texture. He has correct rear angulation with good width of thigh. On the move he holds his topline well with his tail correctly carried horizontally and shows good reach and drive with a free-flowing gait. His front feet could be tighter, but I would expect these to tidy up as he develops.Another great young prospect along with the young bitch puppy and I’m sure both youngsters will have a good future.
2nd Hazean Donetsk to Deifstock (Mr & Mrs S Cooper)
I liked this girl for her overall type and ring presence. She has a lively and intelligent expression, with a well-proportioned and correct head. Her strong clean neck flows well into her correct front assembly and well-developed chest with plenty of heart and lung room ,her ribs are correctly carried well back. She also has a super coat of a russet gold colour of correct texture. Her hindquarters are well muscled and correctly moderately angulated. I would like her pasterns to be a little more upright and less sloping and her hocks are a little high. In profile, she moves well and carries both her tail and topline well with good ring presence, clearly enjoying her time in the ring. Although, she was not as strong in rear movement as my winner.
A note to both the young puppy bitch and older veteran male in this class, both were of excellent breed type and both had good qualities. It was just unfortunate there was no puppy and veteran classes on this occasion as I’m sure both would have placed higher up against peers of their own ages .
Class 28 S/A Champion Dog or Bitch (4,2)
1st ShCh Belatarr Kodiak ( Mr D & Mrs J Spillane )
A very worthy Champion male, who is well balanced and proportioned and shows great breed type along with good maturity . The best of heads with correct furnishings and moderate stop. Correctly angulated both fore and aft. He has good depth, and his ribs are carried well back. Excellent feet with excellent bone. He moved well with good reach and a strong driving action and moves well in profile, although he would have benefited from a little more ring presence on the day. He also could be improved with a little more muscle and I do feel he was carrying a little too much weight today. Nevertheless, his excellent qualities and strong movement far outweighed these small points.
2nd ShCh Ewtor Blue Moon (Mrs L Moss)
A different type of dog to my winner with a slightly bigger frame, both share similar qualities just as I would expect from two Show Champions. He has a very typical head with good furnishings and a great expression, with his skull being slightly longer than his muzzle also with a correct eye of a pleasing colour. His chest could be a little more well developed and he could also have a shade more bone. His shoulders are well laid, but his upper arm is a little short. He is well made over the back with a strong topline and a good length of ribs. His coat is well textured with good undercoat and he has plenty of it too. His hindquarters are moderately angulated with good width of thigh. He moves on excellent feet; however he was slightly unsettled and untidy on times today and would have benefited from a bigger ring, this was true for a lot of the exhibits today.
