Breed: Newfoundland

Richmond General Championship

Dog Show

Losley Park Compton, Guildford Surrey.

Sunday September 13th 2026

First of all I must thank the committee of Richmond for asking me to judge at their show, sadly the last one at Losley but this made it a very special day.  A very big thank you to my two amazing stewards Sue Street and Suzanne Griffins You did a fantastic job which was very much appreciated. And lastly to all the exhibitors in this breed a big thank you for giving me the pleasure of going over your dogs. I gave several dogs a second chance with their movement as the ground was very uneven and I wanted to make sure that they were sound, thankfully all passed the test! Congratulations on the condition and presentation of your dogs and your good sportsmanship sadly a rarity at some shows nowadays.

My apologies for the delay in my report, I normally like to get it out much quicker but as most of you may have realized I was having a problem with my neck and any length of time at the computer did not help, thankfully it is now on the mend!!

Newfoundlands

This is a breed I have been interested in for many years, today my biggest criticism was incorrect tails. My mentors advised me time and time again that a Newfoundland must always have a flag tail and not carried high sadly today I found several of the latter and this made a big part in some of my decisions, however I was pleased in the overall quality of your dogs. Heads varied slightly and a couple of eyes could have been more defined but my winners pleased me well.

1st Cannings &  Rennison Oukaya Forever Big Dipper (Imp Fra).

A baby of justb6.5 months old and very immature and gangly,

Head for his age was well balanced correct earset of the right shape with feathering starting to come Eyes and lids of the correct shape and a beautiful dark colour neck of correct length into good shoulders and a straight front when he stood still bone was strong feet loose at the moment he has good balance and confirmation and he could move true when he chose back end correct, at the moment he could go close at times but for me this was due to his gangly stage. Carried his tail correctly, black and white coat good strong underoat and well presented.

Oh boy this young man of almost 12 months took my eye as soon as he came into the ring, he just said look at me I am here! What a lovely boy, scored in head which had completely balance ratios                             correct eyes of shape size and colour, good dention and black pigmentation tight flews, strong reach of neck  into well laid shoulders and a straight front with good bone and correct feet, topline held on the move because of a good spring of rib and muscle coming along nicely correct strong driving rear end which gave him the Newfie roll I was looking for, both layers of coat correct and he was presented in beautiful condition, was pleased to make him BPD then BP sadly I did not get to see him in the P group but was absolutely delighted to hear he went G2 congratulations.

Not the strongest in head at the moment but has so much room for development. Balanced ratios, mouth close but it did tip over, mouth colour correct for a brown boy, Well constructed front with good bone for age, correct neck into good shoulders body has a lot of maturing to do but topline held on move with correct movement, good coat and tail carried correctly.

When I am judging I always hope one special animal will come into the ring and for me this was the one I was looking for. Took my eye the moment he came into the ring his character just shone, he was enjoying himself, his movement just flowed round the ring because he had such a great spring in his step. Still only 22 months old and has still to mature fully, but his quality could not be denied, scored in head which was completely balanced  with everything as  it should be lovely length of ear carried and used well, mouth was correct teeth and pigmentation correct and the most lovely bright kind eyes completely correct, well laid shoulders which gave him a strong straight front ample chest room good bone and feet, balanced body ribs springing nicely level topline into a correctly set on tail carried as it should be strong driving true rear action, gleaming coat had no hesitation to give him the class or give him the CC and then BOB was over the moon to see him shortlisted in the group as he is still immature well what a feeling to see him go G3 big congratulations job well done as a handler

2nd Paynes Bearhugs Rockefeller at Squaestpaws

B/W boy of 2.5 years he is well constructed with many good points, I found his head pleasing and balanced eyes dark maybe a little round but did not distract, ears well shaped and carried well, mouth correct well bodied and constructed front was straight but spoilt by long toes which made it look splayed topline held and moved out but with no great drive which can only improve as he matures.

1st Moore Starnewf Mr Dark Sky JW

Most promising male of good breed type I loved everything about his head just spoke Newfie body is well constructed with a correct front good bone tight feet, chest room maturing slowly his construction and balance is correct and he moves out well but for me today just not the full packet as yet, but for me definitely one to watch out for. Delighted to give him the RCC.

2nd Duffs Titanbears Excommunicado JW Ir J Ch ShCEx

Another very promising boy who I liked a lot, head correct and well balanced dark eyes but for me I would like them tighter as they altered his expression slightly. He is well constructed throughout with a well laid shoulder giving a good topline and Newfoundland roll, one to watch in the future

3rdCanning & Rennison Oukaya Forever Ursa.

1st Hunt Zentaur Jam Master Joy

Brown 4 year old boy with so much to like about him, scored in head over 2nd as it is completely balanced Bite eyes ears all correct well laid shoulders into a straight front he has ample heart room well balanced body with a good spring of rib he moved out well but for me he lacked a little animation but deserved this place.

2nd Sheridan Ch Two Rivers Wise Choice at Colnbear (Imp USA) JW

Two year old male who presented well and in good condition his head shape was true but for me he was slightly short in muzzle which spoilt the whole picture, eyes correct and dark, construction and front assembly correct but he still needs to fill out movement was sound but again for me he carried his tail too high.

1swt Coldwells Jsy Ch ChZentaur This Is Jam Hot (ai) JW ShCEX OS

I have had the pleasure of judging this bitch before, and I think I gave her 3rd CC I loved her then and I loved her today, at 8 years old she just had everything going for her, l love her balanced head dentition good and flews tight lovely correctly shaped eyes and good earset she has beautiful confirmation and she moved with such precision and drive that she flowed round the ring, For me today she had to be given the BCC on a flawless performance. She was also BV.

2nd Mills  Chatburn Ch Zentaur Drop It Like Its Hot for Oialt (ai) JW

From the same kennel as my winner and has many of the same attributes she has a lovely well balanced head with good ear carriage, construction is sound throughout and she moved truly but with out the positivity of 1.

MPB 1.

1st Rennison & Parsns Oukaya Forever Beyond the Black (Imp F) Naf

Just a baby of 7 months with so much growing to do, at the moment her head is narrow and not balanced but she has lovely correct dark eyes and a good earset correct length of neck running into well laid shoulders front straight obviously chest space not developed as yet everything behind is there but immature, difficult to assess movement as she was all over the place but she did string a couple of good steps together so it is there but she needs time.

26 months old a bitch with lovely type and construction, liked her balanced head and good expression lovely ratios of head to muzzle dark eye of a good shape. Strong in neck into a straight front and correct construction throughout, she moved steadily but I felt she was not happy in herself today she appeared lethargic on the move but it was true.

PGB 1

1st Stanton Legenda Mody Iz Zamka Melvin (Imp Bel) TAF

Very feminine 2 year old bitch with so much to like about her, Correct head shape which is completely balanced she has a lovely kind expression well constructed throughout but occasionally she carries her tail a little high but the more she settled into her movement it dropped to the desired position.

1ST Richards and Plants Bears of The Kingdom Xabrina Sheride (Imp Bel)

A bitch showing so much exuberance in the ring she was really happy to strut her stuff. A lovely type of bitch with so much to like about her, scored in head everything as it should be well constructed strong straight front with good bone chest has still to develop her construction behind the shoulder is good and she has correct positive movement just needs time to develop but definitely one for the future.

What a quality class thank you all so much for giving me the pleasure of going over your girls.

1st Coldwells Ch Zentaur The Jam Is Pumpin

Beautiful brown bitch who I was told is my CC winner’s daughter, and I certainly could see the similarity. I loved everything about her head wise and construction is of the same ilk as her well known mother scored in soundness of movement over two but for me the outlook was slightly spoilt by her loose flews but I still had pleasure in awarding her the RCC my congratulations to her breeders.

2nd Mcdonalds Ch Sandbears Dreams and Wishes

Unlucky to come up against one today as this bitch has so many lovely virtues. Her head is well shaped mouth teeth ears and eyes correct, construction is sound throughout as was her true movement, but I did not feel she moved out today as the one above, maybe the ground was not right for her,

3rd FarrarCh Oilat BlackWith A Icy Three JW  what 3 lovely bitches thank you again.
