Bath Canine Society

Breed: German Wirehaired Pointer
Thank you to the Society for asking me to judge, my first heart breed, I first gave tickets 29 yrs ago at this show and feel I’ve now come a full circle, I must also thank the German Wirehaired Club for organising a minute silence in honour of my late Mother who was a founder member of the Club and had recently passed. Just to note, since I first judged the breed, tailsets are becoming higher and higher and yes they look flashy when on the move. but the standard calls for ‘tails to be carried horizontally or slightly upward’. Beards - they are German Wirehaired Poiinters, NOT Giant Schnauzers or Griffons. As the standards quotes 'Full, but not over long beards’. Veteran Dog 1/1 Puppy Dog 2/0 1. Urvum Hero at Beanalrem (Imp Ita) NAF (Miss H & Mrs J Vine & Hassell) Loved this boy and although he’s still young and raw I’m sure it won’t be long before he’s being considered for top honours. He has a fabulous head with super expression, bearded, but not over done, strong neck and well laid shoulders, best of coats, harsh and wiry and of correct length, super body shape, being slightly longer than he is tall, strong in loin and muscling up nicely for age, moved in straight lines, but still a bit raw. Had no hesitation in awarding him BP 2. Firfame My Boy Ajax (Miss H Pickering) Young boy who very much needs time, liked his head shape and overall body, still needs to fill out and body up, moved ok, but not the quality of 1 at the moment. Junior Dog 0/0 Post Graduate Dog 0/0 Limit Dog 4/0 1. Beanalrem Gwyndu (Miss & Mr Morris & Evans) Liked shape and size of this b/w dog, good head shape, with moderate stop and well proportioned skull, strong neck and good front, super harsh coat, well sprung in rib and good topline, correct tailset to him and strong muscular thighs, moved well showing clean lines. 2. Glenquin Major at Yohenoak (Mr & Mrs S Robson). Another b/w, bigger cast than 1. Found this boy in excellent coat, pleasing head good body shape and strong behind, moved well, but flagged tail on the move. Open Dog 3/0 1. Sh Ch/bel Ch Glenquin The General (Mr P, Mrs L & Miss N Johnston) A lot of substance to this boy, when stacked he presents a good picture being slightly longer cast than he is tall, correct head shape although for me personally he had too much beard, strong neck of correct length set on well laid shoulders, good fore chest and well sprung ribs, short coupled and excellent topline, strong well muscled thighs and a good turn to his stifle completed the picture, polished on the move, straight and true showing good drive behind, but again another who carries his tail too high when gaiting. Still had enough quality for me to award his the DCC. 2. Poldi vom Broel (Mrs S E Joseph) Liked this boys head shape, well muscled neck, straight front legs, deep , well sprung ribs and correct topline, short harsh coats, strong rear quarters, moved well but not the power of 1. RCC Special Beginners 2/0 1. Germanus Dutch Delight (Mrs S & Mr A Jones) l/w ticked bitch, presents a good shape and size when settled and stacked, good head and expression, full beard, strong neck and good shoulders, found her in good coat, liked her angles behind, moved ok but needs time to settle. BSB 2. Germanus Makin A Point (ai) (Mrs S & Mr A Jones) 4th limit, good shape to head, enough coat covering, deep chest, found him a little roached in topline when stacked, harsh jacket on him, just not the movement of 1 and flagged his tail. Veteran Bitch 1/0 1. Sh Ch Bareve by Kind Permission (Miss & Mr Morris & Evans) Lovely shape and size to this 8 year old, pleasing head with good eye and enough beard for me, good neck and clean well laid shoulders, good front and well sprung ribs, good topline and short strong coupling, short harsh coat, liked her hind quarters, moved well. Puppy Bitch 2/0 1. Annie Vd Seestube (Mr. D & Mrs. E Verboven-Bloemen) Loved the look of this young bitch as she came in a didn’t disappoint when I got my hand on her, typical germanic head, of good proportions, strong neck of correct length set on good shoulders, good depth to chest for her age and found her in excellent harsh wiry coat, good topline and correct body proportions, good tailset and correct angulation behind, moved with grace yet still showing power, So unlucky to come across the dog puppy in the puppy challenge. 2. Caldewriver Tiger Lilly via Mustwork (Mr L A & Mrs L J Jones) Lovely shape and size to this bitch, good head in profile, liked her front and overall body proportions, harsh coat and showing strength behind, very mature on the move. Open Bitch 5/0 1. Sh Ch Caldewriver Storm N' Teacup for Katillien JW (Miss K A O’brien) Wow a lovely surprise when this bitch entered the ring, Super shape when naturally stood and exactly the size I like, feminine yet full of substance, head to die for, well proportioned and just the right amount of beard and eyebrows for me, clean neck of good length set on super shoulders, straight front legs and tight feet, ribs well sprung and well muscled loin, super topline and strong rear quarters with stifles well bent, fabulous on the move, graceful yet showing powerful driving action behind, Just couldn’t resist giving her the BCC and BOB. 2. Bareve Beyoncé (Miss S Pinkerton) I really liked this b/w bitch from the start, very feminine and of good shape and size, super harsh coat, lovely head with soft expression, good neck and shoulders, deep in chest and ribs well sprung, good topline, strength behind and handled well on the move. Would loved to have given her more but just not the sparkle of 1. RCC ( her crowning one I believe).
