Blackpool & District Canine Society

Not the biggest entry numerically, but it certainly wasn’t lacking in quality with some excellent dogs present and stiff competition for main awards so I was spoilt for choice there. 

Size in males needs watching with some pushing the measure, but type and temperaments were generally very good. Surprisingly for the time of year, coats were also present and of correct texture in the vast majority which generally helps to complete the picture.

It’s always a concern for a breed’s future when there are so few puppies around so I can only hope that balances out over the year.

1st Shelayne Riotous Revelry (Miss A E Clarke)

17 m/o orange sable who was full of himself today and not overly helpful to his handler. Attractive, balanced masculine head with correct eyes and well-set ears give a typical expression. Good length of neck, correct topline and tailset, good in body and correct bone for his size, he presents a fairly balanced outline. Although he is slightly steep in upper arm, I felt he may benefit from being moved just a little quicker to better show off his side gait as his construction and correct rear suggests he should be capable of a bit more reach and drive than he showed here. Slightly loose away, OK coming.

1st Longsdale's Derun Around at Jeansway (Miss A Drechsler)

2 y/o black of excellent type and very correct balanced outline. Lovely wedge head with well-shaped and placed dark eyes and neat ears. Correct length of neck, excellent body and proportions, balanced angulation, well boned legs and neat feet. On the move he shows an excellent side gait, OK coming but a little close away.

1st Ch Longsdales Look at Me Now (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis)

Eye-catching, immaculately presented 2 y/o black litter brother to previous class winner so a lot of similarities, but this one is that little bit more mature and I wouldn’t want any more of him. Gorgeous masculine head with neat ears, correct eyes and a most typical expression. Medium neck set onto excellent body of correct proportions, firm level topline and high-set tail. Good angulation front and rear and all set on strong legs and neat feet so his excellent movement from all directions comes as no surprise. DCC

2nd Ch Kitsune Notorious (ai) (Mr D & Mrs S & Miss M & Miss N Chapman)

4 y/o orange sable. Strong masculine head, correct dark eyes and neat ears. Just about enough neck, correct level topline and high tailset. Correct angulation and strong bone. OK for proportions and outline though he can be prone to standing a little over-stretched on the floor and making himself look longer than he is. Thankfully he gets his act together on the move to show the correct outline and brisk straight movement from all directions, but just didn’t quite match 1st in sidegait today. RCC

1st Ch Longsdales Rebel Rouser at Cwrtafon JW OSW (Mr G, Mr D & Mrs D Pearce, Francis & Roberts)

Lovely to see this super 7 y/o black not showing any sign of aging yet. Excellent type and still in great condition, his excellent masculine head has correct eyes, neat ears and a pleasing expression, and he still has lovely clean teeth. Correct neck, topline, tailset, proportions, correct balanced angulation and well-boned legs and neat cat feet all mean he presents the correct outline. Excellent sidegait and OK coming towards, but slightly crabbing going away today.

1st Claran Galaxy Quest (Ms K Andrew)

12.5 months cream sable with enough bone and substance for her size. Feminine wedge head with good pigment, dark oval eyes and typical expression. Enough neck, she is still understandably immature in body and yet to fill out. Correct topline and high tailset, balanced outline and proportions. Very happy temperament so took her a while to finally settle and move OK

2nd Shelayne's Celebration (Ms M Fitton)

17 month sable and white parti. Strong feminine head with correct dark pigment, dark well-placed oval eyes but ears could be a bit neater. Correct neck, topline, tailset and proportions, she also is still quite immature in body so looks quite raw and still to develop, not helped by her lack of coat. Quite happy and erratic on the move so difficult to assess.

1st Jansanleis The Magic Piper with Jenerelena (Mrs H & Mr K & Mrs J & Mr E Hutchings-Brooks & Brooks & Hutchings & Hutchings)

Beautifully presented almost 4y/o cream and white parti of excellent type who is so well-balanced. Gorgeous feminine head with attractive dark eyes and well set on correctly shaped ears. Correct neck, firm level topline and high-set, well-carried tail all set on a very correct body. Good angulation fore and rear, well-boned legs and neat feet. Being hyper-critical, movement away was ever so slightly close, OK coming towards but she came into her own going around and I could have watched her effortless, efficient, brisk side gait all day where her handler moved her at the perfect speed to get the best out of her and she easily covered the ground. CC & BOB. I hope the other 2 aren’t too far away.

2nd Nosregor Cassiopeia at Shelayne (Ms M Fitton)

5 y/o medium sized orange sable of slightly stretched proportions. Pretty, feminine head with correct eyes and ears, correct neck into level topline and well carried tail. Balanced angulation and good bone. I would like her just slightly more compact. On the move her side gait was OK but a little close away.

1st Ch Kitsune The Lioness at Izlou (ai) (Ms L & Miss I Barnes & King)

4 y/o black of excellent type and correct balanced outline. Pretty, feminine head with correct eyes and ears, correct neck, level topline and a high tailset. Well-made body and she is nicely angulated, spot on for bone and substance so stands on strong legs and correct feet. Another otherwise excellent mover who was just that little close behind so not an easy decision in the challenge where it could have gone either way, but the LB pulled out all the stops when going round so this one had to settle for RCC today.

2nd Ch Jansanleis Rave JW (Mrs J & Miss S & Miss G Moir & Moir & Mackenzie)

Nearly 4y/o cream and white parti litter sister to the BOB and so very similar. This one just has slightly taller ears and her nose pigment was slightly faded today so not quite the expression of her sister. Other than that, also the same excellent type, construction and balanced outline and another with excellent sidegait but moved slightly close away.
