EAST OF ENGLAND GREAT DANE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

HELD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BOSTON & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY GENERAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - Friday, 3rd July 2026

A thank you to the East of England Great Dane Club for the judging invitation and to exhibitors for the good entry by today’s standards. Thank you also to my capable stewards. How things have changed in the last few years. Oh my I well recall 40 years ago standing in classes of 25 + and not all fitting in the ring at once!

I was pleased with my principal winners although the depth of quality is not there any more. I was somewhat concerned to see problems with some dentition and bites and also, although I was never an ace handler myself, please exhibitors try and run your dogs in a straight line!  

DOGS

Puppy Dog: 3

1st Hayter and Kelleway’s Stevarah Manhattan Magic 

Mantle boy of 10Mths. A real eye-catching lad who is a lovely example of a mantle with desired white collar and markings as per the standard. He stands four-square with a good short coupled body. Well constructed with good angles fore and aft. His head is good with correct ear placement and plenty of neck. His dentition is correct. On the move he strode out well, ably handled by his competent handler who gets the best out of him. My Best Puppy Dog and I shall watch his progress as he matures with great interest.

2nd Cubitt’s Zefather’s Wreck It Ralph for Zebeldane

Well marked brindle boy of 10mths. A lot to like about him, good head piece and good hind quarters. Needs time to grow into his more rangy frame, and will hopefully finish well.

Junior Dog: 1

1.Davies Kinnegans Tulsa King (IKC)

Fawn in lovely condition. Promising lad with good head and dentition. Short coupled with strong quarters and good shoulder placement. Active lad who moved out well.

Post Graduate Dog: 2 (1 abs)

Wright & Cranfield’s Zefather’s Homeward Bound with Irieusdane

Fawn with good head piece, tight eyes and good neck into shoulders. Has a good depth of brisket and hind angulation with strong quarters. Moved out soundly.  

Limit Dog: 4 (1abs)

1.McGuinness and Nelson-McGuinness’ Dinahtron The Omen

Fawn boy of 2 ½ yrs who has still got a lot to come. He has a super head with lovely dark, tight eyes, correct dentition. Well laid shoulders with plenty of neck and good depth of brisket. Good topline leading to good hind quarters. He moved soundly once he settled with his “runner” and I am sure with practice he will set off up the ring better and more at one with his runner. His side gait was excellent, time is on his side for sure. Delighted to award him the RCC and subsequently RBIS as he settled much better in the challenge.

2.Watson-Hall’s Adoreadane Frank Sinatra (AI)

A well marked harlequin with pleasing head and eye. Well constructed throughout and strode out with handler.

3. Pocock and Pavlou’s Bubba Von Pao Eberjager with Tamzdane (Imp FCA)

Open Dog: 3

1.McLellan’s Anadain Dead Ringer for Love JW

Smart fawn boy with black mask and good head proportions. Good depth of brisket, short coupled with good angles and turn of stifle. Moved out well

2.Maganaris & Booth’s Roucandane Tempest Hebrus

Very good head on this brindle and well marked. Good shoulder and depth of brisket and moved OK. I just felt time was on his side and would like to see him in another year carrying a tad more weight. It’s not easy keeping the weight on these big boys at this time of year.

1.Shadbolt’s Adoreadane Blazing Saddles (AI)

A well marked harlequin with good white background and black patches. At just 2 yrs old he should mature well. Short coupled with good angles and moved very well. Good dentition and eye.

Special Open Fawn Dog: 2

1.McLellan’s Anadain Life Is A Lemon

Smart fawn lad with good head and eye. Similar remarks apply as his litter brother who was my Open winner. Moved soundly when settled.

2.Cranfield’s Ch Zefather’s Ralph Lauren JW

A larger fawn boy of nearly 5 who has had an exciting show career, but I felt was a little overdone in front for me now. Good head and tight eye and short coupled throughout with excellent quarters.  

Open Black Dog: 2 (1abs)

1.Simpson’s Ch Renescent Bewitched JW

My eye was drawn to this boy as soon as he entered the ring. Black is Black in our breed standard and his coat gleamed, in super condition. He has a lovely expression with the kindest dark eye, good dentition and ear placement. Good front assembly, not overdone in any way. Shoulders good and good depth of brisket. Short coupled body with strong quarters. He is maturing well and moved at one with his handler, striding out round the ring today. It was my great pleasure to award him the CC and BIS.

Special Open Brindle Dog : 1

1.Pendleton-Watkins Goldania’s King of Drago JW

Good headed brindle with dark eye and nice brindle markings. Good angles throughout with good shoulder and topline and turn of stifle. Moved steadily.

Special Open Mantle Dog: 3

1.Pocock’s Ch Tamzdane Empower Mint JW

Well known 4 yrs old boy with lots to like about hm. Good mantle markings with good head and expression. Short coupled with good proportions throughout. Moved out well.

2. Bliss’ Stagbatch Bobby Dazzler

9mths youngster, 3rd in Puppy Dog. Good head and eye and markings. A promising lad who moved much better in this class.

3. Pockock & Pavlou’s Bubba Von Pao Eberjager with Tamzdane

Special Open Blue Dog : 1

1.Ferguson’s Int/Ir/Lux Ch Elitedaimos Magick Mago at Chateaudain

5 yr blue boy with much to admire. Good solid colour with good proportions throughout. Good head and shoulders and moved very steadily.

BITCHES

Minor Puppy Bitch: 3 (2 abs)

1.Butt’s Murrayvhayle Miss Samantha

8 Mths fawn baby at her first show. Pretty head with black mask, good eye and dentition. Good body and moved soundly and collected for a lovely start to her show career.  

Puppy Bitch: 4

1.Hayter & Kelleway’s Stevarah Liberty Staton

At 10mths and litter sister to my BPD what a lovely puppy she is. Good mantle markings, with pleasant head, eye and expression. Short coupled body with a lovely outline, everything in the right place. She moved out with her competent handler so well. A bright future ahead of her I hope. My Best Puppy in Show.

2.Bliss’ Stagbatch Storm Amy

Nicely marked harlequin, just 9mths and the month makes all the difference at this stage. Good head and dark eye with good body proportions throughout. Moved soundly.

1.Hogarth’s Bondor Most Wanted for Sunlind

Stood alone a pretty fawn girl with good head, correct bite and eye. Good shoulders and well made throughout. Sound mover who should have a good show career.

Yearling Bitch: 3 (1abs)

1.Jacques & Kirby’s Jacqukir Love Me Again JW

Pretty fawn girl of 17mths. Pleasant head and expression with good all round shape and construction. To be critical, handler please don’t lift her off her front feet as it makes her front feet look wrong. Moved soundly 

2. Mitchell, Hooker & Lockey’s Garsak Rainbow

Stronger headed b/m fawn girl with good conformation throughout. Again front stance needs watched.

Novice Bitch: 2

1.Hayter & Kelleway’s Stevarah My Macey’s 

Sibling to my BPD and BPIS. What a lovely litter this is! Another nicely marked Mantle with good head, tight eye and conformation. Just a little hesitant today and not showing to her full potential, however was quite happy to be gone over, just needs time and a few more outings and I am sure she will gain confidence.

1.Cranfield & Wright’s Zefather’s Gossip Girl with Irieusdane

Fawn girl with a lot to like about her. Good head and bite with good angles fore and aft. She moved well and deserved her placing.

2. Thorne’s Verano Viva Las Vegas

A sweet fawn girl who, maybe I shouldn’t say this, but she is adapting to the loss of her co-owner and I hope her owner and handler gets more confident and they continue to show together. She moved out lovely. I wish them well.

Regretfully I couldn’t award lst here in a Qualifying Class. A well constructed black girl who moved soundly, but I could not ignore the amount of white which is “undesirable” in our Breed Standard. I wish the owner/handler all the best with his future breeding.

Open Bitch: 4 

1.Thomson’s Roucandane Cyclone

Fawn girl with lovely head with good head planes and neck going into well placed shoulders. Ample front and good body with turn of stifle. Moved and handled to advantage who pushed hard for the RCC.

2.Prazac & Dickson’s Multi Ch Kaallana Jawska Seraphina

A smart all black girl with pleasant head and dark eye. Good depth of brisket and short coupled body. Moved out well.

1.Pocock’s Tamzdane Oooey Gooey JW

A well constructed harlie girl with a good head and eye. Clean white neck and front with good shoulders and hind quarters and turn of stifle. Moved well to win this class.

3rd in OB. Well made girl with good markings. Short coupled and moved out well.

1.Wright & Cranfield’s Zefather’s Homeward Bound with Irieusdane

At just 10mths this girl is a lovely brindle with good markings. She haa a pretty feminine head with good eyes and dentition. She had good conformation throughout and was well presented to move well round the ring. She should mature well.

2.Merwick’s Taradanes Star Vision for Saalan

This girl was 4th In open. At 4 yrs old she is mature with good head and body. She moved round the ring well but unfortunately I had to penalise her for her hormonal coat which spoilt her brindle markings.

1.Hayter’s Damarkann Secret Dare With Stevarah

Lovely 3yr old mantle girl who has matured well. In good condition and well bodied. Nice head with good dentition and eyes. Good depth of brisket with excellent quarters. Moved out very well.

2.Pocock’s Lambrini A Girl Like Me at Tamzdane

At just 17mth this girl has time on her side. Good head and she is well marked. Moved out well.

Special Open Blue Bitch: 3 (1 abs)

1.Ferguson’s Ir/Swiss Ch Renescent Too Hot To Handle for Chateaudain

This girl at just 3 yrs old is maturing well. Her head is well proportioned with good reach of neck into shoulders. She has ample front and is well made throughout. She moved really freely round the ring and is well handled. I was pleased in the line up to see her go well and awarded her the RCC.  

2. Hayter’s Taysca Stele Mica with Stevarah

Well bodied girl with strong head, good bite and eye. Well made throughout with good angles. Unfortunately today she was in the middle of a phantom which detracted from her overall picture. Moved well and well handled.

Champion Bitch: 1

1.Clark’s Ch Garsak Summer Days at Mintrex

Well what can I say about this lovely girl that has not been said already. Fawn who at 5 yrs old still shows herself to perfection. She has a lovely head and neck with a short coupled body and good angulation fore and aft. She presents a lovely picture standing and is so well handled to move round the ring effortlessly. I was delighted to award her her 62nd CC.
