Breed Results: Spaniel (Welsh Springer) (Day 4)
Can I thank the RKC and in particular the whole team of volunteers who help deliver this wonderful amazing show. It’s a fabulous show and much loved around the world, please enjoy every moment of it. Thank you for an absolutely fantastic honour to judge our wonderful breed at Crufts 2026. A Huge thank you for the kind hospitality I loved every moment of it. I thank my stewards Miss K Tress and Mrs H Tress for their efficiency and kindness.
What I was hoping for was to find a typical Welsh Springer Spaniel and not simply a red and white spaniel of all different shapes. Today I was able to find this in my winners. However I have a few concerns, I found many bad mouths which isn’t acceptable, take a moment and look at the mouths during the development of the dogs from puppy to adult. Also balance of the dog is important, short legs long bodies detract from a true Welsh Springer Spaniel also maybe measure your dog’s height I did.
Having said that I totally enjoyed my day we have only so many placings and sometimes its hard to leave out exhibits that you’ve liked in the past but as I’ve said every dog has its days. Enjoy every moment of this fantastic spectacle of a dog show congratulations everybody and thank you.

1ST 18129 - Eurion Jasper (Miss E K Green)
He certainly didn’t look his age of 12 years young he looked a good overall shape and outline, good depth of chest and well developed ribs, good quarters which he used when on the move. Lots to like about and congratulations
2ND 18145 - Islanza Hey Dude (Mrs S & Mr B R Leach)
For me today I like him on the stack but sadly he carried his tail I little high for my liking which does spoil his overall outline when on the move.

1ST 18072 - Westaway Return Call to Kazval (Imp Nor) (K Anderson)
I genuinely love happy go lucky puppies and he had this in bucket loads, how his handler held it together was to be congratulated. His head and expression does need to break but with time it will, but his overall shape and outline is good to see. when he got his act together he moved well but he has time, his movement in profile was true and good. His body is balanced, good ribs and strong quarters. pleased to award him BPIB today. congratulations
2ND 18167 - Merchinetes Taliesin at Typica (Mrs J M Rees)
A little stronger in head than I would like but good overall in body, good forechest and well developed deep brisket strong couplings and good strong quarters, today he was little proud of his tail but he is a puppy and it was all new to him and exciting. Presented in fabulous coat and condition.

1ST 18143 - Menstonia Endurance JW (Mrs C Knowles)
This young dog is very much without mistake a Welsh Springer Spaniel, so much to like about from his classic head and expression to his strong quarters. He is free from any exaggeration at all in all departments. I was quite taken with him. He has good well sprung ribs, body is well balanced with good height to legs, strong loin and good strong finish to croup, which enables him to carry his tail correctly, not above his back.. His profile movement was true and clean. Much to like about this young dog he must have a bright future.
2ND 18167 - Merchinetes Taliesin at Typica (Mrs J M Rees)
2nd in puppy but in this class he came into his own, settled and looked more at home. I loved his overall profile style and outline, again displaying many of the characteristics of the breed.

A good strong class of some very pleasing youngsters in this class today, I wish them all well for the future.
1ST 18117 - Whistledown Lord Charles Int/nor/dk Jch Hejcw 25 (Mr Ef & Mr Tg Fusco & Galasso) Well just how much this young dog pushed the DCC winner hard today, I loved his overall shape, outline and conformation. So well balanced in all departments. His strong neck blended cleanly into well angulated shoulders, good forechest and well developed depth of chest, well sprung ribs and strong loin. His overall condition from muscle tone to coat was fabulous. He stands on good legs which emphasised his good and true balance. His movement was so true moving well both fore and aft but he came into his own on profile movement his footfall was a pleasure to see. I was delighted to be able to award him the RDCC today congratulations.
2ND 18118 - Gilstonia Run Red Rum for Aprilflash (Miss C J & Mr I Gaylor & Robertson) I admired this dog when he first entered the ring, I like to see dogs come into the ring and move around first it doesn’t matter if they play as it’s a time to just enjoy the atmosphere and general feel of the carpet. This he did, I liked him very much he reminded me of his much admired sire. The size and balance is very good, not overdone in anyway. Good head and eye displaying a fabulous expression, good strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, his good upper arm enabled him to move with forward reach and he used his quarters well to push and drive. All the best for the future.

1ST 18097 - Bronnydene Fly Red Kite (Mrs S P Chimes) he won this class today on his overall movement covering the ground well driving from his rear strong action. Pleasing in head, good well angulated shoulders , good depth or chest, well sprung ribs, good couplings and strong quarters.
2ND 18102 - Nyliram Poker Face of Roxdale (Mrs R & Mrs D Dimond & White)
He needed a to display a tad more enthusiasm today and believe me I understand that frustration… again I like his overall conformation and many similar remarks as winner today. I was particularly impressed with his strong forechest and good overall depth of brisket.

1ST 18107 - Santallina Off and Running JW (Mr I & Mrs D K Douglas)
He is well balanced with good length of leg, and strong body, good ribs and strong couplings, strong in quarters which he used on the move, with good reach in front from his well angulated shoulders. I found his head a little strong for my preference but it is still well balanced and in overall balance to his body. He is presented in first class order both in coat and muscle tone which to be fair hasn’t been that easy with our very wet winter.
2ND 18181 - Toftwood Ziggy Starman (Mrs G & Mr P P & Miss N Short)
I preferred this dogs head overall, he is so handsome. A smaller more compact dog than winner today but still well balanced overall. I found him to have good overall qualities with nothing exaggerated at all. Presented in top class coat and condition, moved freely around the ring and in total harmony with his handler.

1ST 18125 - Sh Ch Nyliram Born This Way JW (Mrs J Graham)
This young dog gave absolutely everything today, his attitude almost exploded as he demanded attention. Like his size being so well balanced, in my opinion he fits the general appearance of a Welsh springer in full detail from his size and colour to his movement which is quick and active covering the ground with ease, displaying plenty of drive as he moves. His head his so well balanced nothing overdone in anyway eye colour enhances his wonderful expression, he has good well developed prosternum, good depth of chest and strong loin. His quarters and tail carriage are a pleasure to see. He never stopped showing from the moment I awarded him the DCC to the moment he won BOB. And then later in the group ring he was shorted listed, just the icing on the cake. Congratulations.
2ND 18071 - Sh Ch Eiriandylis by George (Ms Jo Allen), this dog is built on a lighter frame than winner but not by much, he is such a star, his head is so well balanced with a good kind expression, strong neck and well angulated shoulders, good depth of chest and strong well sprung ribs. Strong loin and good powerful quarters he moved with purpose and drive displaying that good ground covering action using the large ring to his advantage.

I’m certain this dog could do a full days work enjoying himself as he goes, he displayed all the required characteristics of a Welsh springer, active and very good on the move. His movement is a pleasure to see, presented in fabulous hard condition and really good coat. At 10 years young he has a fabulous head end expression his eyes tell a story as he looks at you. Congratulations on such a wonderful dog.

I find personally find judging the veteran class one of the most rewarding classes both in seeing exhibits enjoying the day out but also see the longevity of the breed.
1ST 18105 - Int/multi Ch Lentigos Jakob Se Vch (Ms T Dolinina)
Standing he looked every bit a Welsh springer spaniel nothing overdone in any way, his head is balanced, good length of neck, clean shoulders, well angulated and has one of the best upper arm angulations which allows him to move with a free flowing movement especially when viewed in profile movement. His body is strong and well muscled, good strong loin and powerful quarters.
2ND 18174 - Int/multi Ch Easy Victory Adea Ejw'17 Vww'24 (Mgr J A Samsel)
My notes say again every bit a Welsh springer spaniel by that I mean not just a red and white dog. He looked fabulous, so much to say about, he is so well balanced and clean in outline. Presented in hard well-muscled condition and in great coat. He had to be good as he was placed 2nd over a great favourite of mine.

Wow was my first comment, and then I go on to say what a very pretty bitch of top quality, I love her head and expression, strong neck and clean and well angulated shoulders, true front, she has ample sternum, excellent depth of chest, good strong not over done body. She has great finish to her quarters which enabled her to carry her tail in the correct position. She was presented in gleaming coat and condition. When she moved it was brilliant to see her move especially in profile, her footfall was perfect. Overall she is so well balanced which does allow her shine and shout Welsh springer spaniel. I did consider her for top honours and she wasn’t very far away she just needed that extra bit of body which at just 14 months she will get as time moves on and matures. Congratulations to owner and breeders alike.

The saying is every dog has its day and today was hers in full glory. She presented a true Welsh springer outline and breed type nothing exaggerated at all, that being symmetrical, not leggy and built for endurance, she is so well balanced and presented a classy picture of quality. I loved her head and expression so well balanced for her body, good strong neck and clean shoulders, strong well sprung ribs and good strong wide quarters which she certainly put to good use on the move. Her coat and condition was as the standard asks for straight and silky. She moved so well in profile which especially displayed her overall balance everything fitting together.
