I was pleased to win the vote to judge our breed club show, and I must thank the Committee for making the day such a pleasant experience and my Stewards for keeping the ring moving.  

Many thanks to the exhibitors for bringing such a quality entry of dogs for me to go over and for allowing the use of the ramp. I was especially pleased with my top winners, who were not only good specimens of the breed, but were beautifully presented to show them off. Love having some baby puppies to judge, it is fast becoming a favourite class with me.

I only had one dog with temperament issues, which I asked to withdraw. There are still dogs with incorrect bites and missing teeth, which we need to be careful not to proliferate. A few dogs were carrying a little too much weight over the shoulder, which spoilt their outline.

Baby Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1st - Holgate’s Nadavin Ailsa – loved this nearly 6-month-old liver bitch. Good sized and balanced Field puppy, well off for bone. Pretty refined head, with correct chiselling, dark eye, good ear set. Strong neck, good prosternum. Straight front, correct flat bone, good fore and aft angulations. Good rib to loin ratio leading to level topline and correct tail set. Had fun on the move but went well for such a baby.

2nd – Porter’s Brynnyth Phoenix at Winsbrook- liver bitch, nearly 6 months old. A little finer than the winner, but still a lot to like. Pretty head, with correct chiselling around the eye. At this age a little finer in muzzle. Good ear set. Strong neck. Deep chest, a little longer in loin, Level topline, good fore and aft angulation. Hocks well let down. Not as confident as the winner, moved well.

Veteran (7-10 years) Dog (2,0)

1st Stone & Parvin’s Sonnetend Too Funky - 9 ½ year old black dog I last judged as a 2-year-old. I liked him then and he has got better with maturity. Lovely head, correct chiselling, dark eyes giving a gentle expression. Well defined occiput and long, low set ears. Long neck, strong leading to well laid-back shoulder. Straight front, elbows tight to chest, good flat bone, tight feet. Deep chest, good rib to loin ratio. Level topline maintained on stack and on the move. Strong rear well defined second thigh, straight rear pasterns allowing him to move round the ring with drive. Well feathered throughout but not overdone, his coat gleamed in the sunlight. Pleased to award him the CC, BIS and BVIS. My stewards informed me that this gave him his third and crowning CC and I must say he is a well-deserved Champion. 

2nd Bennett’s - Sh Ch Jesham Baronet – 9-year-old liver male. Another lovely dog to go over. Balanced overall with good bone. Good head, perhaps a little shorter in muzzle than one. Dark eye, kind expression, ears set low, well feathered. Strong neck, good fore and aft angulations. Straight front, deep chest, a little longer in loin than 1. Level topline, well-muscled rear, straight rear pasterns. Well feathered. Moved round the ring with drive. Pleased to give him RBVIS. 

Junior Dog (1,0)

1st Stone’s Sonnetend Brothers in Arms – 13-month-old black dog with bone and substance, but with nothing overdone. Noble head, with correct chiselling. Dark eye, long muzzle, large nose. Lovely long well feathered ears, set correctly to head. Long strong neck, leading into well laid-back shoulders, straight front, prominent prosternum, deep chest, good rib to loin ratio, level topline. Good rear muscles for a young dog. Neat feet, well feathered. Moved round the ring with that long unhurried stride, driving from rear, so rare to see in our breed. Considered him for RCC but just played up in the final challenge. 

Post Graduate Dog (2,0)

1st - Harris’ Thandiwe Mirrorball – 2-year-old liver male, a little stronger in head than number 2, but was more the complete picture overall today. Strong neck, good fore chest. Straight front, shoulders laid well back and good return of upper arm. Correct rib to loin ratio giving a level topline, deep chest, good rear angulation. Moved round the ring with drive

2nd – Orzel’s Sonnetend Made to Measure for Braxton- nearly 2-year-old liver male that needs more ringcraft but managed well on the ramp. Good head with correct chiselling giving a kind expression. Straight front, with good fore angulations. Level topline, good rib to loin ratio. Good rear angulations, straight rear pasterns. Moved erratically around the ring. Hopefully training will improve this.  

Mid Limit Dog (1,0)

1st -Harding’s Kingsmist the Black Knight 6-year-old black male, not as outgoing as some today. Good head with dark eye and correct ear set. Straight front, good depth of chest. Good fore and aft angulations, level topline. A little longer in loin but not over exaggerated. Croup a little rounded. Moved ok.  

Limit Dog (4,2)

1st Harding’s Kingsmist Remember Me JW. Nearly 4-year-old liver dog that I judged before. He had promise then and is now starting to live up to it. Lovely head with kind expression. Well chiselled under and above eye. Straight front with flat bone, elbows tight to ribs. Good front angulation, correct two thirds rib to 1 third loin giving a level topline. Good rear angulation with straight rear pasterns. Did try to play his handler up but eventually move well to get the reserve CC

2nd Jefferies’ Irisbel You’re the One. 5-year-old black dog with a good head with dark eye and kind expression. Good fore and aft angulations which were spoilt by carrying too much weight over the shoulder. Level topline, but this dog was spoilt by the excess weight, which affected his movement around the ring 

Open Dog (2, 0)

1st Bebb-Sutton’s Sonnetend Spellbinder by Cochen. 6 ½ year old liver roan male. Lovely field head with soft expression. Well pronounced occiput and long muzzle, Strong neck leading to well laid-back shoulders. Straight front. Pronounced prosternum. Deep chest, good rib to loin ratio, giving a level topline. Moderate bend of stifle and well-muscled second thigh, straight rear pasterns. Moderately feathered, moved round ring well.  

2nd Adams, Lewis and Hird’s Ceben Darrin at Irisbel (Imp Swe) 3-year-old black and tan male. A little smaller than 1 but all in proportion. Good head with dark eye, pronounced occiput. Strong neck, straight front, elbows tight to deep chest. Good rib to loin ratio. Level topline and well-developed rear. Straight rear pasterns. A little hairy on shoulder which makes him look heavy over shoulder, but hands on shows this is not the case. Misbehaved at the start but settled to move well round the ring

Champion Dog (2,1)

1st Holgate and Bauman’s Sh Ch Prince Arthur vom Belauer See at Nadavin (Imp Deu) JW Almost 8-year-old liver male that is not over exaggerated or overdone. Lovely head with correct chiselling and dark eye giving a kind expression. Strong neck into well laid-back shoulders, Good prosternum, deep chest and short loin. Moved round the ring with head held high.

Veteran Bitch (7-10 years) (3, 1)

1st Harding’s Kingsmist Miss Marple JW. Well balanced 8-year-old Black bitch. Lovely head with dark eye and kind expression. Straight front, but not the fore chest of 2. Strong neck, leading to a level topline. Moderate fore and aft angulations, good rib room, short loin. Would like more furnishing, but didn’t detract from her quality/ 

2nd – Jones’ Ewtor Crazy Kinda Love at Pennybeck. Smaller overall than 1 but all in proportion. Refined head with kind expression. Straight front, good prosternum. Level topline, moderate rear angulation. Wished she would have wagged her tail on the move

Special Veteran Bitch (10+ years) (1,0)

1st Bennet’s Sh Ch Nadavin Ursella with Jesham. 12-year-old bitch who thoroughly enjoyed her time in the ring. Going a little grey, highlighting the correct chiselling and length of muzzle. Kind expression, strong neck, leading into good layback of shoulder. Level topline, good rib to loin ratio. moderate rear angulation. Moved well round the ring. 

Minor Puppy Bitch ( 2,0)

Two litter sisters with much to like in both and will probably switch places many times.

1st James’ Bleiddiaid Dawn Run 6 ½ month liver bitch. A little taller and more bone than her sister this time. Good head, Strong neck, good front and aft angulation. Fidgety on the stand but moved ok in this round the ring with long unhurried stride

2nd James’ Bleiddiaid Annie Power. Smaller and more compact than her sister, but in proportion. Good head, long muzzle. Ear set a little high today, and this affected her expression. strong neck, level topline, good rear. Moved ok in this class but was much better in the Puppy Class.

3rd Moore’s Gemelbet Busy Bein Fabulous.10-month liver bitch, pretty head, strong neck. Level topline, good rib to loin ratio. Hard to handle today and difficult to assess on the move.

Junior Bitch (4,0)

I was left with three young promising bitches in this class. Will watch them all with interest. 

1st Murray & Hird’s Sonnetend Money for Nothing. 13-month liver bitch, all in proportion. Well off for bone, and more balanced than 2. Well chiselled head, a little light in eye but that has time to change. Straight front, flat bone, good fore angulations, correct length of rib, short loin, good rear angulation, moved the best of the three. Well presented. 

2nd Stone & Parvin’s Sonnetend Expresso Love 13-month litter sister to 1 and has a lot of the same qualities. Not as balanced overall today, but plenty of bone. Good head, dark eyes, kind expression. Good rib to loin. Was naughty on the day, moved ok. 

3rd Harnett’s Cwcnels Elderberry. 17-month black bitch. Unlucky to meet the other two today. a little smaller, but a nicely balanced overall. Typical field head, dark eye. Good front, short loin, level topline. Moved ok.

1st Bebb-Sutton’s Nadavin Aleana Gyda Cochen. 20-month balanced liver bitch. Pretty head, dark eye, soft expression, straight front strong neck, correct lay of shoulder. Good rib to loin ratio, level topline, moderate bend of stifle, short straight rear pasterns. Moved well once head was off the ground.

1st James’ Kingsmist Golden Future for Bleiddiaid JW. Nearly 4-year-old black bitch. Lovely head, with dark eye, well chiselled, correct ear set. Strong neck, straight front, flat bone, good prosternum. Deep chest, short loin and level topline. Moderate rear angulation, nicely feathered, moved round the ring with drive. Just missed out on top honours.  

2nd Johnson’s Irisbel Coming Home to Sylviidae. Another 4-year-old bitch, a little smaller than one. Nice head, kind expression. Good ear set, straight front. Correct length of rib to loin. Level topline. Carrying too much weight that impacted her movement. Her young handler did a good job presenting her.  

Limit Bitch (3,1)

1st Jones’ Sonnetend You Belong with Me at Pennybeck. 3-year-old liver bitch presenting a well-balanced outline. Pretty head, dark eye, giving grave expression. Straight front fore and aft angulations moderate and balanced. Level topline strong loin. Another carrying a little bit of excess weight on the shoulder. Moved well

2nd Adams & Lewis & Lewis & Hird’s Sonnetend Tailor Made for Irisbel. 2-year-old black bitch. A little finer and less mature than 1 but as the correct stage of development for age and has promise. Not keen on my going over her head today. Nice head, dark eye, correct length of muzzle, well chiselled. Strong neck, good lay of shoulder, straight front. good length of rib, short loin, well-muscled rear. Handled well to move round the ring, but extremely fidgety when stood. 

Open Bitch (4,0)

1st Johnson’s Sonnetend Silk Stockings for Sylviidae. 6-year-old liver bitch, that has matured to the finished product. From entrance into the ring, this bitch shouted quality. Beautiful head, with chiselling under a dark eye. Good length of muzzle, pronounced occiput, low set ears. Strong neck, leading to well laid-back shoulder, good return of upper arm. Straight front, flat bone, good prosternum. Deep chest of correct length, strong loin, level topline. Well-muscled rear, straight pasterns. Presented in shiny well feather coat. Moved round the ring and pleased to award her the CC. 

2nd Adams & Lewis Irisbel Cherish You. 7-year-old black bitch that is well balanced of good bone. Pretty head, dark eye, well chiselled, expressive eyebrows. Long, low set and well feathered ears. Strong neck, well laid shoulders. Straight front, flat bone, deep chest, ribs well back with short loin. Level topline, well-muscled moderately angled rear. Well feathered and well presented. Moved round the ring well.   

3rd Barker’s Sh Ch Nadavin Yirki at Tumblebar. 6 year old liver bitch with less furnishings than the other two, which makes her look longer, but she isn’t. Typical field head, with long muzzle, pronounced occiput, dark eye giving a kind expression. Strong neck straight front, good rib to loin ratio. Moderate rear angulation. A little erratic on the move.
