I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Leeds City & District Canine Association for inviting me to judge. My sincere thanks also go to my stewards, Mrs Pauline Wales and Mrs Gwynne Wright, for their invaluable assistance throughout the day.

I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess their dogs. I was presented with a number of quality exhibits, with 28 dogs entered from an entry of 31. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality on display and was particularly satisfied with my final line-up, where I was delighted to find some outstanding examples of the breed.

1st: Swift – Maui Demigod With Staranubis  

Black & Tan, 18 months old, with a pleasing head, nice chiselling and lovely dark eyes. Moved freely, with a good deep chest and well-sprung ribs. Would prefer him to be a little less of him. Thrilled to see him later go on to 2nd in the Toy Group Special Beginners.

Class Puppy Dog – 6 Entries 

1st: Watkins & Bugden – Hawksflight That’ll Do 

Red, 7 months old, a quality boy with beautiful proportions and a lovely head. Dark eyes, good earset, excellent forequarters and rear angulation, a nice short back and good topline. Moved well, with a lovely hackney gait. Had to make way for his littermate, who I thought was outstanding. Best Puppy Dog.

2nd: McLoughlin – Krieger’s Oor Bryan  

Red, 9 months old, with a lovely masculine head, good pigmentation, nice type, and full of the Min Pin spirit that I love to see. Moved soundly and showed good promise, but just at the last moment he lost his concentration, which unfortunately cost him the class.

3rd: Copping & Selby – Pernickety Plays The Fool At Rutaaro 

Class Post Graduate Dog – 3 Entries 

1st: White – Kingrock Raging Storm 

Black & Tan, nearly 12 months old, extremely typy, with a lovely head, good eyes and nice ears. Well-placed shoulders, good rear angulation and nice deep ribs, giving him a lovely square body. Nice cat-like feet and a super hackney gait. All round, a good quality dog, presented in gleaming condition.

2nd: Copping & Selby – Pernickety Plays The Fool At Rutaaro

Red, 7½ months old, another promising puppy in this class. Lost out on maturity and did not have the movement of the winner. He would perhaps have looked more at home had he been entered in Puppy or Junior. He has plenty of time on his side to develop and presented in very nice condition.

3rd: Swift – Maui Demigod With Staranubis   

Class Limit Dog – 3 Entries 

1st: Holman – Adurus Golden Fleece 

Red, 3½ years old, smart and showy, of nice size, square and clean in outline. Neat head, good body, legs and feet. Showed himself with confidence and moved nicely. Won this class on his sound movement.

2nd: McLoughlin – Krieger’s Kilted Dragon 

Black & Tan, 3 years old, nicely made with a pleasing expression, good eyes and a strong, slightly arched neck. Well-made body, with good legs and feet. Sadly, pigmentation was off today. Moved okay and was presented in lovely condition.

3rd: Swift – Maui Demigod With Staranubis 

Class Open Dog – 4 Entries

1st: Urwin – Ch Jaegerson Kingsman JW

Red, 19 months old, a real little showman with so much quality and style. Stood out on the day, with a lovely, well-shaped head, good oval, dark eyes and a complete scissor bite. Super neck, used to great advantage, with a well-made body, firm topline and sound quarters, front and rear. Looked a picture both standing and moving. Presented in excellent condition. A quality class with four Champions, making for some strong competition. I had no hesitation in awarding him the CC and Best of Breed.

2nd: Scourfield – Ch Pernickety Make Your Mark At Danton 

Red, 13 months old, a worthy Champion of lovely quality and true breed type. I liked his size and overall balance. Just not as mature as my winner, but he has plenty of time on his side. Another presented in tip-top condition. I was thrilled to award this young male the Reserve CC.

3rd: Hewitt – Ch Adurus Sundance Kid For Catamyrann JW  

Puppy Bitch – 5 Entries 

1st: Bevis, Corr, Venezia & Mackie – Hawksflight That’s A Wrap At Stecal 

Red, 7 months old, excellent, very feminine, with lovely size and quality. Nice-shaped head, well-set ears, firm body, level topline, clean shoulders, good legs and feet. Moved and showed well, with a lovely hackney gait. Presented in lovely condition. I was pleased to award her the Reserve CC, Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd: Mackie – Hawksflight Race The Stars 

Black & Tan, 8 months old, another beautiful, feminine girl, very promising and looking very much the part. Showed well; I liked her head, neck and topline, with nice quarters. Pleased to see the pencilling on her feet. Two lovely puppies that I am sure will change places many times.

3rd: Urwin – Aneeva Holly Berry  

Class Junior Bitch – 2 Entries 

1st: Mackie – Pernickety Silhouette By Hawksflight 

Black & Tan, 13 months old, I liked the size of this smart, attractive, feminine girl. Presented in super condition, with a nice head, good neck and well-made body. Looked very impressive on the move.

2nd: Chapman – Vickstock I Love To Boogie  

Red, 8 months old, nicely balanced and of pleasing breed type. I think she just needs to settle, as she was unsettled by the gusty wind. It was very difficult to assess her movement fully due to this. A pity, as I liked her, but sadly she did not give her best performance today.

Class Post Graduate Bitch – 1 Entry 

 1st: King – Adurus Constellation 

Black & Tan, 17 months old, well made with a pleasing outline. Good body with deep ribs, straight front and well-angulated hindquarters. Nice head, ears and neck. Moved and showed well.

Class Limit Bitch – 2 Entries (Abs: 1)  

1st: Hartley & Fahey – Sticmaze Slapstick With Zoomeera 

Red, 3 years old, very feminine and stylish, with lovely quality. Feminine head with oval, dark eyes, giving an alert, keen expression. Such a nice outline, carried herself with assurance and was presented in lovely condition. Moved soundly.

Class Open Bitch – 1 Entry 

1st: Mitchell – Ch Alcum Suzie Que

Red, 2¼ years old, very elegant and of super quality. Such a lovely outline, with a beautiful neck that fits well into her shoulders and a well-carried head. Good body with depth and a super topline, straight front and good turn of stifle, all coming together to make a most impressive picture. Her stylish movement and proud carriage put her in front for the CC & Best Opposite Sex.

Class Veteran Bitch – 3 Entries  

1st: Cox – Petaz Georgia At Petitpaws

Black & Tan, 12 years old, very smart, with a lovely square body. What an asset to the breed, still showing with a wonderful attitude and clearly enjoying her outing. She moved so soundly and was still stylish, carrying herself with confidence. Feminine head, with a full set of teeth. I was delighted to award her Best Veteran in Breed.

2nd: Westerman – Keljantzi’s Yulianna At Charpin JW  

Black & Tan, 7 years old, nicely shaped and of pleasing size, presented in super condition. Feminine head, good neck and well-made body. Moved well, but could have shown better, which was a pity as I liked her.

3rd: King – Adurus Crystal Ocean
