I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Leeds City & District Canine Association for inviting me to judge. My sincere thanks also go to my stewards, Melvin Parrington and Louise Gregson, for their invaluable assistance throughout the day.

I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess their dogs. I was presented with a number of quality exhibits, with 61 dogs entered from an entry of 62. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality on display and was particularly satisfied with my final line-up, where I was delighted to find some outstanding examples of the breed.

I was disappointed that both my Best of Breed and Best Puppy did not remain for their respective Groups. However, I was delighted that my Special Beginners winner was awarded Group 2 and my Veteran winner achieved Group 4. Congratulations to both exhibitors on these excellent results.

Class Special Beginners Dog Or Bitch – 1 Entry 

1st: Kilgour – Gempeni Heartbeat Of Kilmorbeag 

Tricolour, 11 months old. Good head, clean neck and shoulders, level topline and good, sound quarters. He went as one with his handler. Best Special Beginners and Best Puppy Dog. I was delighted to see him awarded Hound Group 2 in Special Beginners.

Class Minor Puppy Dog – 2 Entries 

1st: Coates – Gladstyle Frankly My Dear 

Tricolour, 8 months old, needs more time. Kind, masculine head, dark eyes, good leathers, nice tail carriage and compact feet. Moved correctly, with this youngster moving more positively on the day. A very difficult class to judge, with two totally different types.

2nd: Hardisty – Blunderhall Gunpowder Guy 

Tricolour, pleasing head and expression, 8 months old and up to size. I hope he’s done all his growing, as today he was not as positive behind as the winner.

Class Puppy Dog – 2 Entries (Abs: 1)

1st: Kilgour – Gempeni Heartbeat Of Kilmorbeag 

See Winner of Special Beginners Dog/Bitch, whom I awarded Best Puppy Dog.

Class Junior Dog – 4 Entries  

1st: Beard – Kellitcreed Mrs Doubtfire 

Tricolour, 14 months old, a quality youngster, well put together and nicely balanced. Pleasing head with well-set leathers, good shoulder placement, level topline and compact feet. Scores well on movement and body.

2nd: Jones & Jepson – Soletrader Mister Maker Of Eardley 

Tan & White, 14 months old, a top-quality youngster that I liked a lot, but lacked the body of the winner. Excellent outline and shape. I feel this youngster is a slow developer, and when he gains more body, he will trouble the best.

3rd: Havard – Annavah Top Notch 

Class Post Graduate Dog 1 Entry 

1st: Philipot – Campionfield Scholar From Charterwood 

Tricolour, 19 months old. Nice outline and topline, with firm, well-muscled quarters. Well ribbed with good breadth of chest and strong hindquarters. Pleasing head and skull, mild expression and good mouth. A stylish showman who stood alone and was a worthy winner.

Class Limit Dog – 5 Entries

1st: Banks – Forgebanks Santiano JW 

Tan & White, 3 years old. A dog I have judged before at a club open show in November 2024. Nice-headed dog of the type I like. Today he showed much better and was rewarded by winning the class. Good topline and tailset, well-matured body, with lots to like. 

2nd: Findlay & Christie – Rhiconich Midas Touch JW 

Tan & White, 18 months old. Good neck, shoulder and head carriage. Pleasing head with good skull and eyes, with a nice square muzzle. Good front and moved well. A very nice dog.

3rd: Peterson – Troopersway Helios

1st: Havard – Ch Annavah Justify 

Tricolour, 2½ years old, excellent type and full of quality. He took my eye the moment he entered the ring. Lovely, clean, strong and well-balanced outline, masculine head with well-defined stop, good flews and excellent length of leathers, kind eyes, beautiful reach and arch of neck, level topline, well-muscled loin, good turn of stifle, tight feet and correct stern carriage. I liked his style immensely. Correct movement and covered the ground so well on the move. I was delighted to award him the Dog CC & BOB.

2nd: Jones & Jepson – Ch Eardley Trot On 

Tricolour, 2 years old, another from the top drawer. Shown in excellent condition and presentation, with a good compact body, good round bone and well-muscled throughout. Masculine head, dark eyes, level topline, good turn of stifle and tight feet. Scores in outline and moved well, but today he was not quite at one with his handler, which was a pity, as I like him a lot. Pleased to award him the Reserve CC.

3rd: Hardisty – Blunderhall Jackson JW 

Class Veteran Dog – 2 Entries 

1st: Whitton & Edge – Jalhar The Wonder Of You At Haggatty 

Tricolour, 7 ½ years old, another smart mover, shown in tip-top condition and certainly not looking like a veteran. His coat still showed a dense black saddle, and he had excellent movement. He could still show the youngsters how to move. Best Veteran Dog and Best Veteran in Breed. I was delighted to see him go on to Veteran Hound Group 4.

2nd: Peterson – Troopersway Gladiator JW ShCM 

Tricolour, 11 years old. Another lovely exhibit, with very little between these two exhibits. Both were a real credit to the breed, making this a very close decision.

Minor Puppy Bitch – 5 Entries 

1st: Havard – Annavah Eliza Doolittle 

Tricolour, 6 months old. A quality, well-balanced puppy, well ribbed and bodied, with good bone and well-knit feet. Good turn of stifle, firm loin and level topline. Very pretty and feminine, with a well-balanced head and lovely, mild, sweet expression, clean and free from frown. Low-set ears and good mouth. Stylish and moved well. I see she is the daughter of my CC & BOB winner, which was a lovely surprise. Pleased to award her Best Bitch Puppy and Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd: Goldberg – Mackhovie Astraea At Molesend 

Tan & White Mottle, almost 8 months old. Lovely body, well ribbed and balanced, with a good topline and well-shaped quarters. Tight feet, good round bone, lovely neck and shoulders, with good breadth of chest and a straight front. Feminine, well-balanced head with good mouth and eyes, and a soft expression. Moved well. This one and the winner will change places many times, as both are very promising puppies. This kennel has a lovely type throughout; all of them caught my eye the moment they entered the ring.

3rd: Rushforth – Campionfield Limelight 

Puppy Bitch – 2 Entries (Abs: 1) 

1st: Leader – Davricard Artemis 

Tricolour, 10 months old. Quality puppy with a pleasing outline, compact and well ribbed, with a lovely body, nicely made quarters and short loin. Good breadth of chest and straight front. Well-made, feminine head with a lovely expression. I hope her pigmentation marking on the nose fills in completely. Lovely bone and substance, moved freely and with good style.

Class Junior Bitch – 6 Entries 

1st: Goldberg – Molesend Linnet 

Tan & White, 16 months old. Smart youngster with a well-balanced outline, sturdily built with a super body, well ribbed and short coupled, with a deep chest and lovely substance. Good bone, firm, well-muscled, nicely shaped quarters and a level topline. Feminine head with a soft expression and dark, tight eyes. Moved freely and was a very stylish mover.

2nd: Havard – Annavah Creme Caramel 

Tan & White, 14 months old. Another quality exhibit from this kennel. Nicely bodied, with a good topline and well-knit feet. Good neck and shoulders, with a mild expression and well-shaped, balanced head. Good mouth and eyes. Stylish and moved freely.

3rd: Jones & Jepson – Eardley Shake Your Booty

1st: Goldberg – Molesend Linnet

2nd: Bridgeman & Logue – Kingswin Gifted 

Tricolour, 14 months old. Good neck, shoulders and level back, with shapely quarters and a straight front. Clean head with moderate width of skull and a feminine expression. Moved well, although not quite as firm in movement as the winner.

3rd: Hunt – Bondlea Cherished 

Class Limit Bitch – 7 

1st: Banks – Forgebanks Shantung JW 

Tricolour, 3 years old. Quality exhibit, one I have judged before and awarded her top honours at a Breed Club Show in November 2024. Compact hound of nice size, with a feminine head and dark eyes. Good neck and shoulders, well ribbed and short coupled, with correct tailset and well-let-down hocks. She has a lovely outline and shape, moved with purpose and was so stylish.

2nd: Simkin – Simeldaka Sliema Madame 

Tricolour, 21 months old. Another well-bodied, sturdily made bitch who today was carrying a little too much weight. Chest well let down, with a nice spring of rib, good topline and tailset. Lovely temperament and presented in good condition.

3rd: Whitton – Alibor Genesis Of Haggatty

Class Open Bitch – 7 (Abs: 2) 

1st: Goldberg – Ch Molesend Jazzy JW 

Tan & White, 2 years old. A very attractive, quality hound who caught my eye on entering the ring. Compactly built and well balanced, with a straight topline and deep chest. Well ribbed with nicely let-down, muscular quarters and good bone. Excellent neck and shoulders with proud head carriage. Very feminine head, dark, tight eyes, broad nose and mild expression. Moved freely and was very stylish. Presented in excellent condition. I was thrilled to award her the CC and Best Opposite Sex.

2nd: Eladabe – Swiss Sh Ch Felinoak Hafren For Rosamax 

Tricolour, 2 years old. Balanced outline, lovely neck and shoulders, well ribbed with good quarters and low hocks. Nice bone and feet, deep chest with well-sprung ribs. Pleasing, feminine head and expression, with dark, tight eyes. Presented in lovely condition. She had that extra sparkle and showmanship which clinched it for me and earned her the Reserve CC.

3rd: Hardisty – Blunderhall Saucy Sally JW 

Class Veteran Bitch – 2 

1st: Whitton – Tabula Rasa Of Haggatty 

Tricolour, 8 years old. Pleasing head and expression, nicely made throughout and moved freely. The best outline in this class, with a straight topline and good front. Really enjoyed her outing and presented in lovely condition. Pleased to award her Best Veteran Bitch.

2nd: Longman – Chatoyant Elissa 

Tan & White, 7 years old. Today she was a little unsettled for some reason and was not entirely happy being handled on the table. However, she was still able to move freely and was much more settled and happier when on the ground.
