I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Leeds City & District Canine Association for inviting me to judge. My sincere thanks also go to my stewards, Mrs Pauline Wales and Mrs Gwynne Wright, for their invaluable assistance throughout the day.

I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess their dogs. I was presented with a number of quality exhibits, with 14 dogs entered from an entry of 14. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality on display and was particularly satisfied with my final line-up, where I was delighted to find some outstanding examples of the breed.

Class Junior Dog 2 Entries (Abs: 1) 

1st: Johnson – F’ Teikoku Go From Hachimantai Telkokusou 

Red Fawn, 13 months old. Good masculine head shape with small, triangular-shaped eyes. Good bone and substance. Body is between stages at present and still has a puppy look. Straight legs and well-balanced body. Good quarters and moved soundly. Presented in good condition, stood alone well, and was a worthy winner.

Class Post Graduate Dog 1 Entry  

1st: Pike & Carter – Tsoyu Wakahiko Go Breezelyn 

Red Fawn, 19 months old. Pleasing masculine head with a well-defined stop and good scissor bite. Nice eyes with good black pigmentation. Good, thick, triangular-shaped ears. Moderate length of neck. Well matured for age, with good angulation, and moved soundly. Presented in good coat and condition.

Class Open Dog – 3 Entries (Abs: 1) 

1st: Duffield – Ch Hr Meiho Kensha Akioshiro Go ‘Sw25 

Red Fawn, 3½ years old. Excels in breed type and immediately demands attention when entering the ring. A quality, masculine dog that shows with tremendous style, moving with powerful, purposeful strides.

Strong 3:2 skull-to-muzzle ratio, with a broad, strong muzzle and powerful jaws. Good scissor bite, excellent pigmentation, and small eyes of the correct shape. Thick, muscular neck of moderate length. Shoulders moderately laid back, with well-developed musculature and moderate angulation. Firm hocks and correct tailset, with the tail tightly curled over the back.

Moved soundly with powerful movement. Presented in excellent condition. Best Dog & Best Of Breed. 

2nd: Grundy – Hitorikko Go Hajimari Under Kyuuten (IMP POL)  

Brindle, 4 years old. This is a dog you need to get your hands on to fully appreciate his qualities. A quality dog that presents the finished picture, with a balanced outline and excellent overall construction.

Masculine head with good expression, sound front, good topline, and a well-put-together body. Excellent bone, good legs and feet. Scores highly on movement and has a lovely temperament. Coat of the correct texture.

Shown in top condition and presented and handled to a high standard. A very impressive, well-finished dog. Reserve Best Dog

Class Puppy Bitch – 2 Entries 

1st: Buckley – Matsukita Akira Go  

Red Fawn, 8 months old. A quality youngster who immediately catches your eye on entering the ring. Lovely feminine head with a beautiful expression. Well-balanced body of good proportions. Particularly impressed with her good front and rear angulation. Confident on the move and went soundly, working in harmony with her handler for such a young dog. Presented in super condition. Reserve Best Bitch & Best Puppy In Breed. 

2nd: Grundy – Hinatsu Go Yamakawa Nite Under Kyuuten (IMP POL)    

Red Fawn, 8 months old. Very feminine, well-proportioned head with nice eyes and a pleasing expression. Good legs and feet, with a well-made and balanced body. Good overall construction, although she just lost out to the winner, who had better front and rear angulation. Moved well and was presented in good condition.

Class Post Graduate Bitch – 2 Entries (Abs: 1) 

1st: Pike & Carter – Tsoyu Yuizuki Go Breezelyn 

Red Brindle, 18 months old. A good exhibit who scores for size and shape. Today she was caught between coats, which slightly detracted from her overall appearance. Good head and expression, with a soundly made body. Moved well and was handled to get the best out of her. Once she is back in full coat, I feel she will trouble the best and look much more the finished article.

Class Open Bitch – 4 Entries  

1st: Thompson, Chapman & Carter – Tsoyu Urakohime Go 

Red Brindle, 3 years old. A quality bitch who impressed for size, balance and overall outline. Feminine head with lovely eyes and expression, with small, well-shaped ears. Good neck and front, level topline and sound rear. Coat of the correct texture and a lovely temperament.

Very well handled and presented in immaculate condition. Pulled out all the stops in the ring, moving soundly with lots of style and presence. My eyes kept going back to her excellent body shape and overall balance. A quality bitch who thoroughly deserved Best Bitch & Best Opposite Sex.

2nd: Duffield – Ch Hr Meiho Kawai Hana Go ‘Sw25 

Red Fawn, 4 years old. A quality bitch who presents a lovely overall picture. Lovely feminine head with correct skull and earset. Good neck and shoulders, with sound overall construction. Moved well in the class, although unfortunately did not show to the same advantage in the challenge. Presented in excellent condition.

3rd: Rayner – Nara Go Towa No Miyako (IMP ITA)
