A huge thank you to the Scottish Chihuahua Club Committee, for the invitation to judge at this very popular club show. Always a lovely show to be at, whether as an exhibitor, or as toasts as today as the Smoothcoat judge. I have to also say a special thank you to the exhibitors, for taking the time, and expense, on entering, and more importantly making the effort to get to the show, knowing that the weather forecast was somewhat worrying. I also must not forget our fabulous resident steward, Mr Richard Morrison, for giving up his time on the day. Richard (Dick) has been a great supporter of the show for many years, thank you Dick for keeping us all in line. With an entry of 57 and only 3 absentees I was pleased with the depth of quality particularly in the higher classes. With the Breed, and dog showing in general, at an all time low, one hopes the stoic amongst us, and the future guardians of our breed, continue to work to improve the breed, and support and mentor each other, to get us back to where we were pre-Covid. Of course, with the forever rising costs, we can only hope our hobby survives. So, Starting with the new kids on the block, 

Baby Puppy Dog. 4(0)

1st. Mrs A Halls, Jorazan Kairos Kooky Sox. A little smarty pants learning the ropes very well for such a youngster. Good head, with well set ears. Alert expression. Correct length of neck leading to a well developing frame. Good bone and body, bodes well. Correct tail. Gave a good account of himself and what’s to come. BBPIS. 2nd. L. Stading, Dorentys Mint Up North Luvs Stadmeyer Naf Taf. Another nice baby from the sweet drawer. Very raw baby, but lots of potential. Needs to develop in body a bit, but early days yet. Very nice head. And shape with super topline and tail. Less mature than the winner hence the placings. Look forward to seeing these two babies mature.

1st. Mrs D Kerr, Silverchi Charlie Chan From Rhinns, BVD, BVIB, BVIS. 10yr old chocolate and white boy ! Well made lad, well covered carrying good body and substance. Decent head. Sadly the only pensioner entered today but did well and enjoyed himself. BVIB, Later went BVIS under judge Angela Gray (Hughgra).

1st D Langford, Boetandales Little Devil. A typy youngster with lots to offer. Wins in head and expression. Good dentition. Fine and dainty, but not really lacking in any area. A pleasing picture on the move, just needs to tighten a little, but still developing RBPD.

2nd. C Fairbairn. Tidos Jinu. A very nice dog that has so much to like about him. Super head and expression. Not yet 7 months so still maturing. Good to handle and appreciate his construction. Firm front. I hope maturity is on his side, as he will be one to watch.

1st. E. Huntley, Am Ch Knockout Chuck A Duck For Jahneemahs (Imp Usa), A mature tri colour boy, that hopefully has done all his growing, as he is just the right size for a mature boy. Very well constructed, just at the end of his puppy career, and clearly has all the experience and makings of a successful show dog, hence he already has his American title. He has a strong head and expression, which I would prefer a little softer and more refined for my taste, but doesnt take away too much from his appeal. He is firm and solid in body with no weak areas, front legs tucked nicely under his good forechest. Level topline to the required sickle tail, held and carried well. Good rear angulation which drives him around the round with style. A dog I’m sure will appeal to many, and was in good puppy competition today, but just edged out by two nice Bitch puppies for BPIB and RBPIB but awarded BPD. 2nd. Messrs, Hartley and Fahey, Zoomeera Stormbreaker. Another tri colour boy, bit bigger than the winner. Lovely head and expression with nicely defined stop. Masculine construction well muscled. Slightly longer in loin than the winner. At his best when on the move where his shape can be appreciated more.

1st. Ms E Huntley, Jahneemahs Looney Tune. Very smart cream boy that really took my eye. Not a dog I have seen much of before, so a pleasant surprise to have the opportunity to judge him. Impressed by his strong masculine head, although slightly lacking in underjaw, but with perfect dentition, it didn’t really detract from his appeal to me. Firmly made with solid muscular construction. Well ribbed, super topline leading to the perfectly set tail. Hit the ground running and when he settled into his stride, is a bit of an eye catcher, and certainly caught mine. Although he stood alone, his quality filled the ring. Sensitive handling won him the day and couldn’t resist his charms hence CC, Best of Breed, just outbidding the Open dog for the top awards.

1st. Mr and Mrs Lynch, Arkoschi Rite Here Rite Now at Garnox. Smart blue tri boy on the bigger size, but still not without his virtues. Decent head with correct dentition. Clean front which enhanced his sound movement. 2nd. E Fallone, Frapachi Once Upon A Dream (IKC). An attractive dog with a good head, shortish in muzzle and would prefer slightly bigger ear. Decent size and body and moved and showed nicely. Sadly he wasn’t impressed by me, and let me know, so unfortunately had to take 2nd place.

1st. L Jones, Pepeetolyn Rich Tea. A right little cutie is this boy, small in stature but big in temperament, and really makes the best of himself. Another that stood alone but no reflection on his quality. Good head, eye and expression and body all in proportion to size. Tail a little tight but a minor thing really in the grander scheme and a smartie for sure.

1st. C Courtney, Silverchi Tonight We Dance. A lovely typey boy with an impressive head and expression with ideal ear set. Hands on really improves his appeal, as so well put together and constructed. Handled to his best advantage and the best mover in this class edging him into the top spot. 2nd. Messrs Hartley and Fahey, Zoomeera Home and Dry JW. Another very smart young man that needs closer examination to appreciate his quality. carries a lovey head, expressive eyes and well set ears. Balanced size. Really impresses in profile when on the move. Close up to winner.

Lots of quality in this class and one that put me to the test, as had to split hairs on deciding places, but in awarding 1st place eventually fell for the charms of, L Taylor, Ch. Arkoschi Don’t Stop Me Now JW. A dog I have admired since the first time I saw him as a Minor puppy, and guessed he might be destined for greater things then, and glad to say I wasn’t wrong. This beauty has had a very impressive career to date, and as a chihuahua exhibitor, we can be familiar with the successes of other chihuahuas, but not let ourselves be influenced by such success, and judge the dog completely on their merit on the day, which is always what I try to do, as on this day. He absolutely did not disappoint, as he is a beauty for sure. He ticks the boxes in almost every department, starting with his superb head and expression, perfect ear set. Enough length of neck to complement his shape, being slightly longer than high leading to his envied flat and furry tail set. His movement is exemplary which tipped the balance in this class, and his overall quality won him the red card. Although I gush over this lovely dog, he was a tad lacking in exhuberance today, and in the final analysis was just pipped to the post by the lively, junior winner for the CC, but more than worthy of the RCC and subsequent Reserve Best of Breed. 2nd. Mrs and Mrs Hunt and Fothergill, Ch. Diamonchi Mr Moonstone. Another fave of mine, who has such ring appeal and presence. When standing, he presents such an admirable silhouette and outline, and is when he is really at his best, and nudges you to keep looking at him. His head is good enough to initiate further interest, which leads to nice reach of neck, level topline and a very well carried and set tail. Super front and rear, which pushed him around the ring with style and complete soundness. Showed and handled faultlessly, and had to battle and indeed won his second place, to beat some other classy dogs. A worthy title holder.

1st. Mrs K Price, Monicachi Destiny’s Call. Cute little red, smart and sassy with such a lovely shape for a baby. Body coming together nicely and moved very well. Promising. 2nd. Miss C Conway, Silverchi Magic Moment.

A bigger type fawn girl, slightly plainer and longer than the winner, but only in comparison and no reflection on her quality. Nice puppy.

1st. Mrs C Fairbairn, Tidos Huntrix, Tri girl who was making good size for her age and maturing well. Attractive Strong head with short muzzle. Promising overall shape and goods hands on for body and bone. A very pleasing exhibit who was still getting to grips with her job in this class, and did enough to bag first place, and then came in all guns blazing for Reserve Best Puppy and stormed around the ring so she decided it was hers. Very similar to the Puppy dog winner and a close call between the two for RBPIB. 2nd. Mr C Twaddle, Rita At Sasilasy (Imp It). A very pretty, smaller type, who was also nice to handle on the table. Another one still learning the ropes, and not giving of her best yet, but I’m sure as she gains more confidence she will look a different dog.

1st. Miss M Corbett, Starceylon Empress By Mandistarz. A very classy young lady that just oozes quality. Elegant girl that has so much going for her. Feminine head and expression with very attractive dark eyes and large well set ears framing and finishing the picture. Good Length of neck leading to spirit level topline and ideal tail set and carriage. Correct shape, being slightly longer than high. Construction is all there, and when she hits the ground, she motors around the ring like a train, and is as sound as can be. Handled and schooled within an inch of her life, so never puts a foot wrong. Best Puppy Bitch, BPIB and considered seriously for higher honours but her day will come I’m sure. 2nd. L. Taylor, Arkoschi There’s No Stopin Me. A very pretty young lady and finer in type than the winner. Good body for her size and is a real smartie. As sweet as sweet with many virtues.

1st. Ms L Russell, Chirouxe Breakdown. Cream

Girl with a decent head and slightly longer in the muzzle with good stop. Finer skull shape with good ear set and size. Good size and well built. Nice front and presents a good shape when she pulls herself together. Stood alone but no shame in that as still a worthy winner.

1st. Ms J Ginger, Jodeschi Glamour Puss. A very appealing girl, that needs closer examination to appreciate her many qualities. Such a lot to offer in a small dainty package but lacks for nothing. So compact and nicely put together. Decent head with good muzzle length, and enhanced by correctly placed and sized ears for her size, which really fit well to create an overall very pleasing picture. And to cap it all she moves like a dream. Showed so well to grab the attention, and that she did, earning herself the RCC. 2nd. Mrs A Halls, Jorazan Talia Toffifi Sox. A slightly bigger girl pale red in colour, and reflected in her pale eye colour, which is of course acceptable in lighter types. Overall bigger and chunkier than the winner, but by no means oversized. Carries a decent head with excellent dentition, ear set and stop. Gave a good account of herself.

1st. Mrs D Fothergill, Diamonchi La Dolce Vita.

An overall quality girl that was particularly nice to handle on the table, where she presented a very pleasing picture, with everything in the right place, with all the makings of how a Chihuahua should be made. Sadly she didn’t make the best of herself on the floor as wasn’t happy but did enough and her quality won the class. 2nd. L Jones, Pepeetolynn Tea Black. A smart little Tri girl with a pretty head and feminine through and through. Decent tail set and carriage and moved well enough.

1st. Mrs A Halls, Jodeschi Sox Appeal At Jorazan. A super girl full of quality, and another one that excels when hands on. Really well constructed and put together. A lovely template for quality with a decent head, eyes and good dentition. Presented an overall very pleasing picture and excelled when on the move. 2nd. Mrs and Mrs Hunt and Fothergill, Moltobello Game Of Thrones JW. Again we have another quality girl that has all the attributes required to challenge the best. Very nice, smart girl, that really appeals for her super head, ears and dentition. Excellent body with legs well positioned with good tail set to create a very admirable overall picture. Just a tad tentative on the move, as another not so keen on the floor. Nice girl

What a class this was, with all those present having differing levels of appeal and quality, but all worthy of places, and sadly some didn’t quite make it, but no reflection on their worth and on a different day maybe a different result, but just edging the class was 1st, Mrs D Fothergill, Ch. Diamonchi Miss Beautiful JW. One I have judged before as a youngster, when she was outshone by her litter sister, but today was her day, as she has matured into a beauty, and lives up to her name admirably. Such a lovely typy Chihuahua, oozing class and with the prettiest of heads and lovely expression. Put together so well, with neck and body matching up to the head, creating a very impressive outline, particularly when she flies around the ring with such style and grace. Holds herself so well, showing off her assets to a tee and demands attention, which she got, plus the CC. 2nd. Mr Mrs Hornby, Ch. Bramerita Posh Totty. Another girl of quality and deserving of her title. Good head and expression, enough neck to sit on her well formed frame. A little short on the leg for me, but carries herself around the ring with ease and decorum and not looking too bad at all for her 5 years of age and lots to like.
