THE HOUND SHOW 18TH JULY 2026

My thanks to the exhibitors for entering under me at what is surely the best run championship show on the circuit. Without exception, all involved are pleasant, polite and helpful.

I had a well laid out ring and two excellent stewards.

The weather was thankfully a little cooler than of late, but I was aware that it was still very warm for our Irish Wolfhounds, and therefore tried not to move them excessively.

JD 1

1st Forret’s Culvercroft Ivanhoe, stood alone but lots to like about this upstanding male. Masculine head, kind expression, excellent fill of forechest, well arched neck and decent top line, he has lots of curves, he needs to tighten up on the move and learn to control those long limbs. Well off for bone, I will be interested to see him in a years time. Excellent coat and shown in good condition.

1st Harris Hazianne’s Knights Templar, dark coated hound, good length of head and good eye colour, front a little too far forward set. Long bones, bursa affecting movement today. He has a reasonable topline, with a correct rise over the loin. Lovely temperament and condition. He needs time to tighten up and mature on , as is to be expected.

1st Tingle Fosco Della Bassa Pavese (Imp ITA)

Pleasing head and expression and dark eye, ears could be a little neater, strong neck into fair shoulder placement, nice width through chest, well ribbed back, he is a little steep in croup. Kindly and gently handled, shown in good condition, and typical kind temperament. He moved soundly but lacked enthusiasm today

2nd McNulty Rixymanor Major, More short coupled than winner and not the overall size, head of good proportions, well arched neck, good fill in front, he is balanced front and rear, and has lots of curves. I would prefer more width through the stifle , harsh jacket, movement not as accurate as winner.

1st Webb and Sheppard Killoughery Mission Two for Inkleyboys JW 4 year old hound who excels in movement, he has such a kind expression, good deep chest, excellent reach of neck, into well laid shoulders. Well muscled throughout,, and strong hindquarters, excellent presentation and handling, easy and active on the move, Just would prefer him a size up nevertheless pressed hard for Res CC

2bd Dawson’s Hydebeck Tyme to Love at Graefyn JW A real masculine hound, pleasing head and expression, well held rosed ears, good bone and feet, well ribbed back, plenty of heart and lung room, strong hindquarters and well developed second thigh, shown in great condition, moves well but not as well as winner today… 

3rd Evans Killoughery Ricochet with Braewisan

1st Sumner Ch Dukesarum Murphy I gave this dog Res CC last time I judged and he has matured into an excellent example of the breed. So gentle, with kind expression, well arched strong neck into good shoulders, well held topline which he keeps on the move. Straight forelegs and good feet. Deep chest, powerful hindquarters, excellent muscle tone, he moves lightly but showing extension and drive. A beautiful dog….BOB and shortlisted in the group

2nd Spry Killoughery Touchstone, much to like about this strong well made powerful hound, more workmanlike than winner, good expression, deep chest and well ribbed back, plenty of bone, powerful and very hard conditioned hindquarters, well developed second thigh. Easy and active on the move , harsh coat, Res CC

3rd Tebbutt’s Ch Fidelio Della Bassa Pavese Caredig (Imp ITA)

1st Sumner Dukesarum Caiomhe , what a star, she is beautiful and she knows it…how lovely to see a puppy so full of joy, I loved watching her antics with her gentle handler, she has a dark harsh coat, feminine head and sweet expression, arched neck into good shoulder placement , straight front forelegs, deep brisket and showing correct top and underline. Lots of length , good tail set held well on the move, and already she has that length and power of stride. BP Delighted, but not surprised to hear that she went on to win Best puppy in show. A super prospect.

This was my most difficult class, but for the right reasons. 4 very lovely Wolfhounds, all at differing stages and all with good attributes. 

1st Severn-Kumar Ersebrayer Orkney Gaelmarque a lovely girl, pretty, feminine, excellent temperament, good eye colour , very balanced front and rear, correct amount of bone, good in top and underline, very well muscled all through. She moves with a light easy gait, love the way this handler gets the most out of her dogs, such empathy….

2nd Stirling Ersebrayer Moonshine for Clanlilly Brindle bitch who is I see litter sister to winner, lovely head and furnishings, well held ears, good topline and deep in brisket, well let down hocks, she moved easily but not with quite the drive of winner today. Two lovely youngsters.

4 Robertson, Robertson and Sillars Excellent Ezra of Cubader (Imp SVK)

1st Warwick and Spry Cairnstorm Legacy Feminine head and well carried rosed ears. Good reach of neck, good slope of upper arm, well ribbed back, strong forelegs, nice sweep to underline, excellent coat, well presented , she moves out soundly, and really drives off her hocks

2nd Cross Cairnstorm Lullaby JW Similar comments apply to her, such a sweet head and gazehound look. Balanced front and rear. She moves well but she needs to learn to lower her tail on the move. Shown and presented in great condition. Lovely temperament on both hounds.

2nd Lees Bonaforte Beautiful Dawn with Clainwolf Upstanding red brindle bitch, well constructed, I liked her expression and length of head, good earset and strong arched neck, good width through stifle, would prefer more arch over loin, shown in excellent coat and condition. She is sound on the move but could do with a tad more drive.

1st Sumner Dukesarum Evie 3 year old kind head, and dark eye, well angulated front, deep brisket, strong top line, well developed hindquarters and good bend of stifle, moved well in profile but a tad erratic on the up and back.

1st Pinkney Hydebeck Dream to love JW a well constructed Irish Wolfhound, she is strong yet feminine, well off for bone, well set on neck into good lay of shoulder, good feet, , well let down hocks, muscled hindquarters, as always from this kennel shown in excellent condition, powerful and strong on the move, delighted to award her the res BCC

2nd Pasks Florence Della Bassa Pavese to Baronglen JW (Imp ITA)

Well made youngster of two years of age, good head length and dark eyes, arched neck into good shoulder and topline, well filled forechest, well angulated hindquarters and correct tail carriage, she moves well but today winner had the edge on drive and covering the ground

3rd Stirling Rysheron’s American Hope for Clanlilly

OB 4 (!)

1st Bradley Ch Glengail Aarcus, three year old dark brindle, a real to the standard Irish Wolfhound, no flash and dash, but so correct. Head of excellent proportions , kind eye and expression, neck strong and arched, top and underline a series of curves that one should expect from a galloping hound. She has good straight bone, and well made feet. Excellent muscle tone, she moves lightly but with drive, this girl could easily do the job for which she was bred. I liked her a great deal BCC

2nd Sumner Ch Dukesarum Niamh, 3 year old with sweet gazehound expression, she has good width front and rear, well ribbed back, sweeping hindquarters, harsh jacket, shown in great condition, she moved freely but today but not with the enthusiasm of winner.

1st Stirling’s Clanlilly Diamond Dust, 8 year old of lovely type, feminine head and appealing expression, well arched neck , pleasing in top and underline, well bodied and muscular condition. She had to wear a bandage to protect her foot from a recent grass seed injury but that does not detract from her overall condition and type.
