Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Club of Great Britain

Breed: Best in Show

I would like to thank the club for extending me the honour of judging their Championship show as well as for the warmth of their welcome and the generosity of their gifts. The event was supremely well run with a noticeably excellent atmosphere – just what you would wish for at a breed club show! Quality of entries was generally very good, particularly amongst the bitches, where there were 5 exhibits to whom I would have been happy to award the CC. That said, the breed remains hugely variable in almost all respects and has not converged into a single type any more than was the case when the breed first gained Championship status, 15 years ago. Movement, in particular, varied widely and was a determining factor in many of my decisions.

1 Fitzrovia Gone With The Wind

A handsome 8-year old boy of good breed type who looks half his age. Presented in super, hard condition, he displayed a lovely temperament – a friendly, happy and outgoing boy in the ring, to be sure. Super, tight, harsh coat of full-coverage; a very smart head, level top line, an excellent length of rib into correct tuck-up, but could do with more depth of chest. Moderate rear angulation but with upright pasterns and upper arm, causing him to lift at the front on the move, which cost him in the BV challenge.

1 Twelveoaks Idaho Morganna

11 months old and already mature for his age, with significant musculature in evidence. Super, well-developed coat, he just needs a touch more on his head, which should arrive with time. A prominent forechest, deep and long ribcage, good and well-balanced angulation fore and aft with good bend of stifle and well-laid shoulders, a strong neck leading to dead-level topline, correct, moderate croup, and tailset, plus excellent width of thigh. He moved beautifully, with accuracy, reach and drive and an effortless action in profile. Overall, an extremely promising young boy who came very close to the RCC today.

1 Voroslang Harris Gold

Son of the VD, an 18-month-old boy with many of his sire's attributes. An elegant, well-proportioned head with a good dark eye and clean, well-set pendulous ears; strong, clean neck into excellent top-line. Pasterns have slight slope, giving him the required spring, and he has reasonable front and good rear angulation, although could do with more width of thigh. Chest also needs to drop a touch, which will hopefully come with maturity, but nice length of rib into moderate tuck-up. Good, harsh coat, coming in well for his age, and lovely, tight feet.

1 Zoldmali Hunter Saman (imp)

A 2-year-old boy, very masculine and a super specimen of the breed. Moderate and very well balanced throughout, a good top line and tailset and correct tail carriage, lovely depth and length of rib and a strong loin, all topped with a very harsh, tight coat with full body coverage. His feet still need to tighten and his head needs to have coat stripped from muzzle as this is disguising his proportions and giving him an atypical appearance for the breed - too square and short in the foreface. His structural balance was underlined when on the move, though, where he was powerful in profile with accurate footfall coming and going, and, in a tight decision, I was pleased to award him RCC.

2 Mr Rhett Gable Butler

An elegant, 4-year-old boy, completely different type to 1 & presented in hard condition; Deep russet coat of excellent, harsh texture. Nice dark eye and fine ear-set, though would like a touch more stop. Good depth of chest with nice reach of rib, but a little short in body. He has correct, moderately sloping pasterns, good length of upper arm and good set of shoulder; very moderate bend of stiflle, on the move he lifted at the front when viewed in profile with a high tail carriage.

1 Twelveoaks Goodwood Pippin

An impressive 3-year-old boy with a beautifully proportioned head, full of expression, kind, well-shaped and pigmented eyes, and well-set ears. A nicely arched neck leads to a perfect topline, moderate croup and correct tailset. Super rear assembly with very good bend of stifle and powerful thigh. Chest well let down and good reach of rib into a strong loin. He has tight and tidy feet, the correct, moderately sloping pasterns and a decent upper arm and lay of shoulder, all topped with an excellent, tight and harsh wire coat. His movement was unsettled at first, but fortunately, he settled down when it counted and, in the challenge, moved with drive, accuracy and style, winning him the DCC + BOS.

1 Sh Ch Ewtor Blue Moon

A 3-year-old boy of great substance, very happy in the ring and with excellent temperament. Coat of full coverage although texture could be a touch harsher. Attractive, well-proportioned head, clearly masculine, but not coarse or over-done. When stacked, he presents a near-perfect picture – very pleasing height to length ratio, correct pasterns, very good upper arm and and lay of shoulder, super depth and length of rib, but not over-heavy and still with good tuck-up, plus excellent, swooping bend of stifle and with hocks well let down. A dead-level top-line, good tail set & nice tight feet complete the picture. Nothing not to like when stacked, and he immediately looked like he would be my BD. On the move, he tracked close at front & back, & was then unsettled in the challenge, which sadly prevented him from going further today.

2 Zoldmali Ezmi (Imp Serb)

A lot to like about this boy & he had possibly the very best wire jacket of the day - tight fitting, ultra harsh and weather-proof. Most attractive, well-proportioned head with good eye colour, and very good tight feet. Tremendous depth of chest with great spring of rib and strong loin. He is not as well-angulated as 1, but is well balanced front to back, nonetheless, with a level top line and good tail set. He lacked some animation on the move and was tracking a close front & back when coming and going.

1 Bardantop Rumbaba With Benmorbry

8-year-old girl with a tight, coarse coat, good depth of chest and spring of rib, moderately angulated, but nicely balanced front to back, a little steep in croup. Attractive, feminine head with super, deep chestnut eye colour. Nice, tight, cat-like feet. Moved wide in front & close behind back coming & going,

1 Enryb Eat Your Greens

Just 7 months old but already very developed with correct and beautifully balanced angulation – slightly sloping front pasterns, good forechest, long upper arm and well-laid shoulder, level top-line, correct croup and tail-set, matched with excellent width of thigh, swooping stifle and strong rear pasterns. Chest already down to elbow with good reach of rib. She was furnished with a largely softer, puppy-ish coat with wire coming in along her back; this will hopefully continue to improve with time. Eye pale and feet need to tighten. She moved with drive and accuracy and had big personality too - confident, outgoing and happy in the ring,

PB (2)

Two very different types, but both with quality attributes.

1 Zoldmali Hunter Cirok At Canalgame (Imp Hun)

10 Months old and still with much development to come; coat was quite profuse, as presented, but coarse in texture, nonetheless; good height to length ratio, moderate and nicely balanced front & rear assemblies, excellent neck, topline, croup and tailset. Chest still needs to drop, but time very much on her side. Super, and very neat feet. Very attractive, feminine head. She moved beautifully, and this secured the class win for her today.

2 Twelveoaks Red Delicious

Just two days shy of her first birthday and much more developed than 1. Moderate but well-balanced front & rear assemblies, with great depth of chest for her age; good reach of rib and strong in loin. Well proportioned, feminine and expressive head, good coarse and very tight, body-hugging coat, already with full-body coverage, correct pasterns; croup and tailset a little high. Unfortunately, she was unsettled when being gone over today and lacked the accuracy of 1 on the move.

1 Enryb Tickle Me Purple

15 Months old and a really super and well-constructed example of the breed, with a fabulous rib cage, extending below her elbow and of equally good reach with tremendous heart-room; 90 degree front-angulation, deal-level topline, powerful upper thigh, superb bend of stifle and hocks well let-down; croup a touch steep. She already carries a smart wire jacket, still developing, as expected for her age, and could be harsher on the head, but will no doubt continue to improve further with time. Her movement was a little hampered with her handler, with carriage not as free-flowing or fluid as a result, but her tracking was accurate, nonetheless. Once she relaxes into herself, she will be a future star, I've no doubt.

1 Fradikee Just Like Fire

5-year-old with many attributes. Really happy girl, very 'demonstrably affectionate' indeed! Superb chest, with good depth and length of rib into moderate tuck-up. Assembies are moderate but well balanced front to back, though would like a little more width of thigh; a very feminine and well-proportioned head, with good dark eye and kind expression; excellent topline, croup and tail set & carriage; movement was a little uneven and touch ragged today.

1 Enryb Tickle Me Purple

2 Zoldmali Hunter Vica of Zoltarous (Imp Hun)

A 22-month-old bitch of very nice breed type. Moderate in size, well-balanced throughout, without exaggeration. Nice, tight feet, beautiful, feminine head with a great dark eye. Correct front pasterns into decent front angulation; Good reach of rib, though chest still needs to drop a little further (as it should with further maturity), correct croup, topline and tailset, very good rear angulation and strong upper thigh, topped with full-coverage, harsh wire jacket - all very pleasing. Her movement was a little erratic in profile & she tracked wide at the back and close at the front.

1 Enryb Tickle Me Purple

2 Lanspar Zendaya

A 3-Year-old bitch of superb breed type, wonderfully feminine but with sufficient substance throughout. Her angulation is moderate but very well-balanced front to back. A little upright in the pastern, but with prominent forechest, good length of upper arm and good lay of shoulder, all well matched to her rear angulation. She has an exquisite head, well furnished with nicely-set ears; a good reach of rib into pleasing tuck-up, with dead-level top-line, and she carries a full-coverage harsh jacket. So much to like about this bitch, and she should only improve with further maturity. Very close to 1, today.

3 Cuffnells Sweet Dreams

OB (6,1)

1 Holsan Wild Ginger

Three years of age and, by any standards, an outstanding bitch; distinctly feminine but of great power and substance & with superb construction throughout. Notably longer in body than many exhibits here today, slightly sloping pasterns giving good shock-absorption, very prominent prosternum supporting her front musculature, excellent lay of shoulder. Terrific depth and tremendous reach of rib, a strong loin, level top-line, moderate croup and correct tailset, powerful upper-thigh and excellent bend of stifle. Good double wire coat with full body coverage & very appealling head with melting expression. She had the best movement of the day and, indeed, is one of the best-moving examples of the breed I have ever seen – pin sharp accuracy coming and going, a low-lifting, daisy-cutter action & terrific reach and drive in profile coupled with the most graceful, gliding, effortless carriage, head held high and proud with tail carried level. An absolute pleasure to watch. Delighted to award her 2nd CC (and I trust her 3rd won't be too long in coming!) and then BIS.

2 Sh Ch Enryb Tickled Pink Jw

One who I judged (and loved!) at 6 months old at her very first show, and delighted to see her here, now a well-deserved Show Champion of 4 years of age. So much to like about her, she is of beautiful breed type with everything in proportion. Smaller in stature & shorter in body than 1, correct pasterns, very good upper arm and lay of shoulder, strong neck into level topline, moderate croup and correct tailset. Lovely rear angulation with powerful thigh, great bend of stifle and strong hocks. Very good depth of rib and nicely tucked-up into strong loin. Very good wire jacket and well-proportioned head. Strong, driving movement in profile, but wide at the elbow when coming towards. Well handled and unlucky to meet 1 here today.

3 Hazean Donetsk to Deifstock (lkc) Jw

SWB (1)

1 Sh Ch Deifstock Dare To Dream Jw

A two-year-old bitch of such lovely breed type, super feminine but with real power and substance. A terrific, harsh wire jacket and lovely depth of colour to both coat and eye, pleasing ear set and length, very feminine head & tight, cat-like feet. She is well-angulated front and rear with good upper arm and shoulder set, a lovely line of neck into a level topline and correct tailset. Excellent bend of stifle and strong upper thigh. Her movement was efficient with good reach and drive. Presented in superb, well-muscled condition, very much fit for purpose and giving the strong impression that she could last all day in the field. Amongst very strong competition, I was pleased to award her RCC.
