Longhaired Dachshund Club

Breed: Dachshund (Long Haired)

The Long Haired Dachshund Club 18 April 2026

My thanks to the committee & club for the invitation to judge. My thanks to my hard working stewards, Lesley & Judith, for keeping the ring running smoothly which made my day much easier. To all of the exhibitors for their entries & accepting my decisions with good sportsmanship.

Overall, all dogs were presented in a nice clean condition with good temperaments. Some, in my opinion, have let the coats get a little too long ruining the outlines, the standard calls for feathering with a flat coat not obscuring the outline. There was a very varied mix of types, especially in size, with some getting too big, breeders & owners need to keep an eye on this.

Baby puppy dog – no entries

Minor Puppy Dog 1 1st Cooper & Hendren – Bronia Leonardo. Nine-month-old red dog of typical size. Presents a pleasing hound head with correct almond eye and well-set ears. Good length of neck leading into a prominent forechest. Well-ribbed with a short loin and good rear angulation. Moved straight and true coming & going, maintaining his topline at all times. A very promising youngster, please to award him BPIB.

Puppy Dog 1 1st Rodrigues – Sujarah Dare To Dream. Slightly larger than previous class winner but still balanced. Good head shape with dark almond eye. Neck a little shorter and a little upright in shoulder but has a good prominent chest, though a touch longer in loin than ideal. Good rear angulation but a little close in movement coming & going.

Junior Dog 1 1st Garlick – Ranglewood Christmas Star. Good head with correct almond eye. Moderate neck and chest, though shoulder slightly upright. Good ground clearance with long ribbing and short loin. Level topline and good rear angulation. Movement straight & sound with drive.

Post Graduate Dog 3 1st Paskins – Kindeace London’s Calling JW. Well-shaped head with almond eye and good neck length. Prominent forechest, though upper arm slightly short. Good ground clearance, strong ribbing and short loin. Sound rear angulation. Moved straight and true, best mover in the class. 2nd O’Neill – Ranglewood Pheonix at Donnadach. Smaller than winner with a pleasing head and dark eye. Slightly shorter in neck and forechest. Shoulder placement and front angulation both ok. Ribbing a little short for my liking (60/40 balance). Slightly close behind but adequate rear angulation.

Limit Dog 4/2 1st – Paskins – Kindeace Hit The Road Jack JW. Good head and dark almond eye. Moderate neck with prominent forechest & well laid shoulder. Good ground clearance, ribbing and loin length. Rear angulation good & moves with drive, though a little close in movement. Coat in good condition. 2nd O’Neill – Ranglewood Finlaggan at Donnadach. Similar size with good head and eye, correct dentition. Slightly shorter neck and smaller forechest. Shoulder adequate with ribbing a little short and overall slightly long in body. Movement straight but closer & would prefer more drive ; preferred winner for overall balance.

Open Dog 2/1 1st Geeson – Ch Abydachs Return of the Night. Excellent head and long, graceful neck. Prominent forechest with very good front assembly. Superb ribbing and short loin. Strong rear angulation and well-muscled. Moved with power and drive, straight coming & going. Happy to award him BD & BOB & pleased to later see him go BIS

Veteran Dog 2 1st Roberts – Ch Swansford Gabrieldor. Quality dog with excellent conical head and lovely neck length. Deep chest, well-laid shoulders, and good ground clearance. Long ribbing with short loin. Strong rear and well-muscled. Moved with power and accuracy; pushing hard for top honours. RBD, BVIB & later BVIS. 2nd Garlick – Ranglewood Harvest Song. Good head and chest depth with sound shoulder angulation. Slightly less ground clearance than winner. Good ribbing but a touch under-angulated behind. Still moved well, especially considering age.

Baby puppy bitch 1/1

Puppy Bitch 3 1st Whitfield-Roberts – Swansford Opheliadora. Black & tan bitch with pleasing head and good neck length. Prominent chest and well-constructed front. Good ground clearance, ribbing and short loin. Strong rear angulation. Moved with power and accuracy for her age; coat in good condition. Pleased to award her BPB. 2nd Clarke – Briarmist Fire and Ice to Tekalhaus. Overall, a good sized bitch with correct conical head and elegant neck. Good forechest & length of keel with correct front angulation. Balanced throughout with good movement. Slightly bum-high at present but should level with maturity.

Junior Bitch 2/1 1st Richardson – Ranglewood Noelle. Good conical head, dark almond eye and correct dentition. Moderate neck and forechest. Well laid shoulder & good ground clearance with plenty of ribbing. Rear angulation adequate; movement good but slightly close going away.

Post Graduate Bitch 7/2 this was a tough class to judge with 3 lovely bitches of similar age with promising futures ahead, I will definitely be keeping an eye on all of them. 1st Barnicott & Pascoe – Fahoogle Minack. Good sized bitch overall with pleasing head, dark eye and good ear set. Good neck into well-placed shoulders and prominent forechest. Balanced body with good ribbing and rear angulation. Balanced with good ribbing and short loin. Coat in good condition. Just lost some drive in the challenge. RBB. 2nd Chapman – Melminds Up On The Catwalk.
